I am hoping and praying that they will bring this one to the screen, as a fan of Line of Duty I would absolutely lap it up!

Was Chris Sketty good or bad? We can only judge his version of the story which was, under duress, vividly told to Doctor Ralph Teller. I was totally immersed in this book - intriguing, gritty and a rollercoaster of a read which was gripping and had me changing my mind throughout the narrative about whether this complex, flawed and unreliable man was a hero or a heartless calculating villain. To top it all the author then treats us to an absolutely brilliant ending which totally blindsided me.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the copy of this addictive stand-alone thriller.

Good cop bad cop by Simon Kernick.
It's 14 years after the worst terrorist atrocity in UK history and, with the perpetrators either dead or missing, the motive remains a mystery. But Dr Ralph Teller, a wealthy industrialist who lost his wife in the attack, never gave up hope of justice. He thinks he knows the real identity of the mastermind responsible.
I really enjoyed this book. Full of twists and turns. I did like Ralph. I had no clue until the end. 4*.

Undercover cop DC Chris Sketty was almost killed whilst trying to stop a major UK terror attack. The motive for the attack is unclear but someone is convinced that Sketty is a liar, a criminal mastermind and a murderer and will stop at nothing to get to the truth.
This is a tale where no one is who they seem – you’ll be constantly trying to work out who is honest, who is corrupt and exactly who can you trust? The uncertainty, the unanswered questions and the layers of suspense just keep piling up right until the jaw dropping end.
This is a gripping, fast paced, and utterly suspenseful book that will get your heart pounding – once I’d started reading it there wasn’t a team of wild horses that could have dragged me away from it.
If you liked Line of Duty then you’ll absolutely love this - buckle up readers you're in for a hell of a ride!! This is most definitely one of my favourite reads of this year!

As I was reading this book I could picture it on screen as the vivid imagery reminded me of Line of Duty and Bodyguard. As the front cover details, the reader constantly questions what side of the line the undercover cop was on. Much more satisfying ending than Line of Duty.

I’m not sure how much I enjoyed this book and find my review quite difficult to write.. Some parts were absolutely brilliant and the secretive nature of the story was superb but then there were parts I found slow and a bit tedious and fairly unrealistic. It was quite difficult to keep up with all the characters even though they all intertwined. There is also the unanswered question of how one policeman, undercover or not, could get away with killing so many people, whether or not it was in the line of duty. The premise of the story was great and the ending was unexpected although was left open for a sequel. If there was a sequel I would read it as I want to know who is behind it all. Also I’m still not sure if the main character is a Good Cop or Bad Cop.

I always enjoy this author as he writes so well and this one was no exception.
I thought the story being told by Chris Sketty to Dr Teller worked really well
I liked Sketty as a character but I felt he was telling the truth from the beginning but it did not spoil the plot. When other characters were introduced they were integrated seamlessly and therefore easy to remember.
I think the plot was clever and I liked the ending even if it left me with a few questions.
There was however a few repetitions in the story that I didn’t like but I would recommend this book as I thoroughly enjoyed it.

A really enjoyable action thriller. I'll be honest it's not my usual type of read but I'm a fan of Simon Kernick and I'm glad I gave it a try. I did guess some of the end but was still surprised right at the end!

Simon has done it again what a cracking read, gripping from start to finish. Couldn't put it down. Highly recommended.
I received this book from Headline via Netgalley for a review.

I absolutely loved this book.

How the book is mostly narrated by the main character Chris Sketty reminded me of a 1940'2 film noir.

Right up until the end the reader is taken on a rollercoaster of opinions as to whether Sketty is Good or Bad. I kept changing my mind the whole time as the body count around him kept rising.

If you loved the TV drama Line of Duty then this book will be right up your street, or should I say dark alley.

I read this as part of an online book club read along and everyone seems to have loved it.

Thanks to Netgally, the publishers and The Book Club for a free copy in return for a honest review.

This is only the second book I have read by Simon Kernick, but he is quickly gaining a firm fan in me. I love his writing style and the fast paced stories that, although they require a slight suspension of belief, have me hooked the whole way through.

Good Cop Bad Cop is Chris Sketty's story, told to Doctor Ralph Teller. As it is Sketty's own version of events, we can never be completely sure that his recollection is reliable or that he is telling the truth, although I really did feel sympathy for him and I wanted him to be the "good cop." There are so many questions that arise from this plot and I desperately wanted the answers to them, which kept me furiously turning pages.

Towards the end of the novel, there is a definite increase in tension and I loved it! It was so gripping. It may not be for the faint hearted as there is a lot of violence, but I did feel it all added to the tense atmosphere. I loved all the twists and turns and couldn't wait to see how the end would play out. It's an ending I will be thinking about for some time.

Typical Simon Kernick thriller. Has you thinking one way then turns the tables on you , more than once. Fast paced page turner . An intriguing read with an intricate plot. Look forward to the next thriller by this author

A tense fast-paced thriller. Chris Sketty is the troubled hero - an undercover cop who was injured during a brutal terror attack. With constant action and a stratospheric body count expect an exhilarating read, which is cleverly told.

A great book - a little different form many of Kernick's books but I hugely enjoyed it and was kept guessing all the way through. In depth characterisations and tense, well crafted storyline.

4.5 stars. Another cracking book by Simon kernick. He is one of my favourite authors and his novels never disappoint. Lots of twists and turns that all tied together nicely at the end . I really liked the main character and hope to see him in more books

Simon Kernick delivers a good story, almost in a whodunnit style. There is plenty of false trails and a really good action narrative as well as thoughtful content for the reader to get into.

It is difficult to review the story without giving away plot features, but it is a well-structured and entertaining piece of work. Well worth buying.

Chris Sketty is a police officer in his mid-twenties. His marriage has ended following a family tragedy and he is feeling angry at the world.
Chris is approached by Counter Terrorism Command (CTC) to join them and to go undercover to out another officer they believe is working for Kalian Roman. This person is thought to be an extremist financing terror attacks in the UK.
Chris' involvement leads to his involvement in a bloody attack where he is injured.
Years later questions start to be asked about the real reason for this attack and Chris is once more deep in a bloody and deathly search for Kalian Roman. Ultimately there seem to be many questions left unanswered.
Kernick writes tense, fast paced crime stories and this one is up there with his best.

I enjoyed this latest Simon Kernick offering having been a fan of all of his previous books and I was delighted to receive an eARC.
Unfortunately I didn't find it as gripping as previous books and although I wanted to find out what happened and whether Sketty was a good cop or a bad cop (and the story had me frequently changing my mind) I wasn't totally hooked as I have been in the past.
I found the first person narrative quite off putting, but enjoyed the flashbacks and enjoyed the twists and turns, although I was disappointed with the ending and felt it was a bit of a cop out.
My thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for my eARC in return for my honest review.

Nothing seems to be going right in Chris Sketty’s life, it’s just one piece of misfortune after another. And then he changes jobs, and tragedy follows him there too. At times it’s almost too unlucky to be believable but not so bad that you’re not driven to continue turning the pages and finding out if he really is a bad cop or just a very unfortunate good cop. Well written, intriguing and filled with suspense and endless possibilities. I really enjoyed this book, thank you to Netgalley for the advance copy.

I've never read any of Simon Kernicks books but I've hear about them so I was very pleased to receive a copy. I love a good thriller and this novel did not dissapoint. The main character left me guessing as to whether he was a good cop or a bad cop, especially because he seemed to make so many bad decisions.
It's rare for me not to guess the ending of a book but this had me stumped and I was thrilled by the ending.
Highly recommend for anybody that is in the mood for an intriguing book that keep you guessing until the very lst page
