Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of Valerie Bertinelli's fabulous new book, Enough Already. I thought that I loved Valerie before but I absolutely LOVE her now. So many of her personal battles resonated strongly with me, from that never-ending quest to lose ten pounds (or twenty, in my case) to the awful pain of watching a mother's health decline.

Valerie's love for her son Wolf, her ex-husband/forever friend/soulmate
Eddie ("Ed") Van Halen, and a delicious meal are constant themes throughout this fast read. The pride that she takes in her son's accomplishments, musical and otherwise, is beyond heartwarming and sincere. Valerie's undying love for Ed will bring tears to your eyes. And her relationship with food is so relatable... I'm ready to try every recipe that she shared in this book!

Enough Already shows us so many sides of Valerie... she is vulnerable, humble, funny, and genuine. At times heartbreaking but always inspiring, Enough Already reminds us all to be kinder to ourselves and to find - and truly appreciate- the love and joy that surrounds us.

I wanted to read this because:
I’m looking at an empty nest in the next couple of years and the idea of it has me rather anxious.

People complain and complain and yet they do nothing to change the issues in their lives. Valerie Bertinelli has given readers a book that embodies the old “it hurts when I do this…. well, don’t do that anymore then” trope. She’s trying to stop doing what hurts - she’s put in the work / she’s putting in the work, and seems a happier, more content human because of it. She has written a raw and honest book that is helpful in the knowledge that you’re not the only one who’s gone through your situation(s).

After reading this, I think a lot of people will be able to relate to the topics addressed.

Thanks to Mariner Books and NetGalley for an eARC of this title. Opinions shared are influenced only by my reading experience.

I've had enough. Haven't we all? Don't we all want to throw up our collective hands and say "enough already?!" I remember watching Valerie star as Barbara Cooper and thinking I wanted to be her. Or I wanted to be Barbara Cooper living in an apartment with a divorcee for a mother. Reading Valerie's words is like having a chat with a dear friend. Open, honest, raw and real as only a true friend can be.

Having read her first book, I was really looking forward to this one to see how she changed especially with the topic since I had this epiphany a few years ago. I really enjoyed reading how she changed the narrative on her thinking and how she's evolving. I was so emotional while reading about her speak of her ex because we all knew how it was going to end. Heartbreaking.

Years ago, I watched Valerie Bertinelli grow up on One Day at a Time, and more recently I've enjoyed her as the winsome co-host of The Kids' Baking Championship. This book is not so much a memoir (no photos), but what she calls "a collection of thoughts, essays, and stories."

As Valerie approached age 60, she reflected that she was weary of agonizing over the need to lose the same 10 (or 40) pounds one more time and decided it was "enough already" (hence the book title). She vowed to start learning to love herself as she is--her age, weight, relationships, passions, and backstory--and to focus instead on compassion, forgiveness, gratitude, kindness and love--not to mention, cooking! Along the way, she talks about her continuing love story with Eddie van Halen, with whom she had split 20 years earlier, who was her soulmate until his death in 2020. Their only child, Wolfie, now a musician in his own right, was one of the ties that bound them together.

Valerie's journey is one to which many of us can relate, and I found it an uplifting read. Her writing feels as if it is an authentic conversation with her readers. And there are a few recipes! .

My thanks to Mariner Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is the most unpretentious celebrity confession book I’ve ever read. When you ‘connect’ in friendship with someone, whether it’s through their writing or in person, it’s easier to take their advice and life-lessons to heart. Valerie makes it clear that she’s not preaching from a higher place, but that we’re all in this together, we’re all connected. As she says more than once, she’s literally grown up on-screen with us. This book is a biography, a self-help guide, a cookbook, and yes, if you were enthralled with Edward Van Halen too, it’s their never-ending love story, too.

Beyond her rather glamourous job, at the end of the day Valerie is a mom—Wolfie is clearly an amazing son!—a friend, a woman who bakes pizza, watches cat videos on TikTok and has a dysfunctional relationship with her bathroom scale. She’s relatable, likeable, honest. And if you are near enough to reach for a plate, she *will* cook for you.

As she works her way through life’s lessons, she learns more about herself and her family. Her mindset evolves from ‘food is my enemy’ to ‘food is a way to say I love you’.

And love is necessary for living our best life. Love, and joy. Real joy. Immersing in Valerie’s memories, confessions, and stories is now a part of the good memories of my own life. I appreciate the time I spent learning more about her, while she fed me with recipes, acceptance, encouragement, and bravery. This could not have been an easy book to write—and in the middle of a pandemic lockdown, no less! I wish her all the love and joy in the world in her 6th decade and beyond.

My thanks to author Valerie Bertinelli, Mariner Books, and NetGalley for allowing me to read a digital advance review copy of this book. This review is my honest and unbiased opinion.

Valerie Bertanills books have been some of my favorite reads. I was beyond thrilled to know she was writing another one. Especially losing a Eddie after receiving fly losing my dad was very relatable. She also talk about her journey as a caregiver which really spoke to me as well. Curling up with one of her memoirs is like sitting down for a conversation with an old friend. I loved this one very much and appreciate the chance to have been able to review it! I flew through it

Thank you Mariner Books for this e-copy to read and review.

I got this book two days ago and I literally could not put it down.

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with Valerie Bertinelli. I love pretty much everything she is and stands for, but I find it difficult to truly understand how someone with such an amazing life, could be anything but happy.

"Enough Already" gave me a better understanding. It is obvious that Valerie is basically looking for joy in the small things, while working on eliminating the negative self talk that often rears its ugly head. It is a challenge to live a balanced life. THIS I absolutely relate to.

It also made me realize that while she does, indeed, have an amazing life, I am guilty of comparing my insides to her outsides. Something I do all the time with people

This book was obviously written with honesty and love and I admire her for writing her story. I imagine it must be hard to open your life and your heart in this way, not knowing what you might get back.

Of course, she writes quite a lot about Eddie Van Halen and you can hear the pain in the writing, but she also sounds calm and spiritual about their life together and his death. The other moving aspect of this book is her words about her son.....she is lucky to have Wolfie as he sounds like a kind and caring person. Anyone who visits their mom so he can play with the cats is automatically wonderful to me. She is a proud momma and it comes through in this book.

The writing is both deep and breezy if that makes sense. The subjects are deep, but Valerie does a wonderful job of making us feel as though everything will be okay.

I loved the writing,
I loved the message
and I loved the honesty.

This book was a quick read! Valerie opens about her experiences and tries to remain positive throughout the pandemic along with the loss of her soulmate, Eddie Van Halen. I had no idea she had a cooking show and her book is full of some recipes. Thanks Valerie and Net Galley for the advance read copy.

This is a wonderful book, that almost defies description: part memoir, part self-help, part cookbook, all told by someone who comes to feel like your best friend. It really spoke to me, and was exactly the sort of “pep talk” I needed. Though I’ve always been a fan, this is the first book I’ve read by Valerie Bertinelli, and now am interested in reading her other books. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Enough Already by Valerie Bertinelli is an immensely relatable read that will certainly resonate with any women who has shared many of the challenges on the road to self-love. The struggle to accept ourselves and find our personal joy at any stage of life is illuminated here, and Ms Bertinelli reminds us, with touching honesty, to find passion and love in the here and now. The addition of some mouthwatering recipes, sprinkled liberally throughout the book, is the icing on the cake.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Mariner Books for an ARC.
