I've always been a Valerie Bertinelli fan and I was thrilled with this release. It's not a Hollywood tell-all as so many stars are writing. It's a warm, personal account of her struggles in life, her successes, her dreams and her relationships. It's a family-oriented account and I love her anecdotes about her son Wolfie. If you've seen her cooking show, you know that she dotes on him and they have a wonderful relationship. Highly recommend!

Valerie tells her memoir, Enough Already, with honesty, authenticity and grit. I found her to be 100% relatable in her process of changing negative thoughts about her body image, and how with a deep understanding of self, she managed to pull herself out of a negative spiral. She’s learned how to embrace herself as she is by finding something she’s grateful for. She also discusses her favorite memories of working with Betty White, and her special relationship with ex-husband Eddie Van Halen who passed away in 2020. So good! I highly recommend picking it up.

Valerie Bertinelli returns with a heartfelt look at turning sixty, the futility of finding happiness in numbers on a scale, learning to love herself the way she is today, and tips for a healthier outlook on life. I found this a fascinating and insightful read.

Wow! This book encompasses so much from an emotional standpoint. The highs and lows of self love, life, family and everything in between. Valerie gives an in depth exploration of the voice inside your head that tells us we’re not enough. Vulnerability and honesty will resonate with you throughout her story. This journey of life is rocky even for celebrities. She connects with her readers on a human level sharing with us her own personal struggles. Through the loss of her marriages, loved ones etc. she shares her journey. In the end we are enough despite the record that we sometimes play over and over. It really is the simple things in life that mean the most. We are all works in progress. Thank you #NetGalley for the ARC #EnoughAlready.

This is my second Valerie Bertinelli book.

It’s part biographical, part recipe book and part self-help and it did not bother me. I feel this is representative of who she is. I especially enjoyed part of her life and dealing with losing her ex. This is a testament to their love. There are great lessons to be authentic and true to who you are.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me a complimentary e-arc in exchange for my honest opinion.

Bertinelli shares a reflection of her life experiences. She recognizes the distorted body image she lugged around most of her life was the outcome of her parents' raising. Parents who did not express their personal pain and suffering in very healthy ways. Specifically, her mother ate her feelings rather than processed them in healthier ways. Bertinelli has come to understand that food is a beautiful thing that connects family and friends. The book is peppered with recipes and served with a hefty dose of much-deserved self-love and self-acceptance. And that is really what life seems to be about… learning to be your authentic self. Thank you, NetGalley, for the chance to read and review an early copy of Enough Already: Learning to Love the Way I am Today.

Thanks to Mariner Books and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. Having been a fan of Valerie's since One day at a time and having loved the whole cast of Hot in Cleveland I was delighted to receive an ARC of this book. I expected an enjoyable, inspiring and insightful read and I got all that and so much more from this book. It's such a relatable read for anyone who has ever been criticized by others or who are very self critical. Valerie walks us through her life and the pivotal moments which have made her finally say "enough already" and to stop being her own worst enemy and to truly embrace every moment we have with our loved ones as we never know when it will be our last. Told in such a personal and poignant way I found myself so engaged in this book it makes you think about how hard you are on yourself and others and how life is too short to waste it being this way. I was never a fan of Van Halen and I didn't know much about Eddie and their love for each other but I found myself sobbing at one stage of the book reading Valerie's heartfelt words about their love for each other and his tragic passing. I don't think anyone could read this book and not be both moved, inspired and admire Valerie for her bravery in sharing such raw thoughts and emotions. It left me saying "enough already" to myself and wanting to be kinder to myself and others. A great life changing read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #marinerbooks #netgalley #valeriebertinelli #enoughalready

ENOUGH ALREADY begins as a self-help guide for those who want to get off the serial dieting treadmill and learn to love their imperfect selves. But it quickly turns into a remarkably empowering and deeply personal memoir as Bertinelli ("Hot in Cleveland") bares family secrets, her battles with poor self-esteem and bad body image.

ENOUGH ALREADY covers Bertinelli's nearly two-year journey toward self-acceptance. During this period, she also deals with the Covid-19 quarantine and the news that the tongue and throat cancer her former husband, rocker Eddie Van Halen, has been dealing with for more than a decade has spread to his lungs and brain. Although the two divorced in 2007 (after 26 years together), they stayed close to co-raise their son. A large part of this memoir deals with grief and impending loss. "I was literally born into grief," writes Bertinelli, who was born a few months after her brother accidentally drank poison and died at 17 months old. "I didn't learn about it until I was in my early teens." With Van Halen's health declining, Bertinelli tries to break out of the crippling emotional restraint she was raised to exhibit. The chapter dealing with his eventual death is heartbreaking, nakedly honest and eloquent. "Grief is one of those things you have to wade into and expect to cry your way to shallower waters," she writes.

This soul-searching and heartrending memoir will empower people dealing with grief and those who need to live healthily while breaking the tyranny of the bathroom scale. Valerie Bertinelli delivers an empowering, deeply personal and emotionally devastating memoir of grief and family secrets with a path toward self-love.

I've grown up watching Bertinelli, and the book blurb really caught my attention, so I was excited to read this ... and it did not disappoint.

I've read many books by celebrity, but I've never connected with them like I did this one. It felt like you were having a chat with a good friend. I've always struggled with my weight, so I loved that angle of the book, along with the meaning behind "Enough Already." Just the reminder I needed to hear.

I also grew up listening to Van Halen, and I enjoyed the inside look into her relationship with Eddie (and, I admit, I cried reading about those final moments with him. So heartbreaking, yet beautiful.).

There are some recipes included, and I look forward to trying them.

This book is a bit of something for everyone: biography, self-help, cookbook, and even a love story. The reader also gets to know more about her son, Wolfie, who sounds like an incredible young man. Bertinelli's struggles with life, weight, relationships, etc. will likely resonate with many. She's open, honest, and vulnerable in her latest release.

If I hadn't already been a fan of the author, this certainly would've changed my mind. As it is, it just made me love her even more. And it makes me ready to want to stand up and say "Enough already!" to some things in my own life.

NOTE: Covid and the associated lockdown is mentioned in this book, but thankfully, it wasn't a key focus. However, it could still be a possible trigger for some readers.

I love memoirs so I was looking forward to this one. I didn’t realize Valerie has written two other biographical books that I may check into. This book deals a lot with her love of cooking and her cooking shows. She is a successful cooking show host as well as an actress. There are a few recipes interspersed throughout the book. Valerie talks a lot about her relationship with Eddie Van Halen and his untimely death. I always was confused about their relationship as they seemed to be opposites in many ways and Valerie discusses this briefly in the book. There is a lot of discussion about self love and our obsession with the perceived perfect weight. This book wasn’t completely what I expected but nonetheless it was an interesting read.

As a teen in the 1970’s, one of my favorite shows was “One Day at a Time” and Bertinelli’s character, Barbara Cooper, was my favorite. Leap ahead to the early 2010’s, I watched Bertinelli in the TV series, “Hot in Cleveland.” In the years in between, I had seen her on TV occasionally and I vaguely knew that she had married a rock star. I saw commercials where she was a spokesperson for Jenny Craig. In recent years, I’ve seen her on the Food Network and wondered how she made the transition from actress to being a Food Network cook. When I saw that she had written a memoir, Enough Already, I was intrigued to learn more about the woman that I had “grown up” watching.

Enough Already is an eye-opening, honest, and relatable memoir. Bertinelli describes her lifelong battle with her weight and how insecure she has been with her body image. She has spent her life dieting and worrying about food. This is unfortunate because she really loves to cook. She grew up in an Italian household where food was meant to be enjoyed and some of her fondest memories are of her grandmother and aunts cooking. (By the way, the book does answer my question of how she became a Food Network cook. It was a learning process and it took a lot of work. And even there, she doubted herself!)

However, this memoir is not just about food or body image. She is a proud mom. Her love for her son, Wolfie, is apparent. Her love for her ex-husband, Eddie Van Halen, is also apparent. She shares her feelings about his death from cancer and the bond they shared even after being divorced for years.

In this memoir, she shares her new lease on life: Accept yourself! Don’t waste your time worrying about your image! Live life to the fullest! “Enough already!” I highly recommend this memoir. It speaks to many women: those who have or have had body image issues, those who are mothers, those who have experienced grief, and those of us who are in a similar time in our lives as Valerie.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have always been a fan of Valerie Bertinelli and seen some of her movies, and it was a joy to read this lovely book.

Bertinelli struggled with her weight ever since she became an actress as a teenager, specifically ten pounds. But these ten pounds represented other struggles - low self-esteem, having a harsh inner critic, constantly wanting to please others, for example. Finally, she discovered notes about the strong women in her family, and she decided that it was 'enough already'. She decided to concentrate on being happy with herself, and finding love, forgiveness and peace. I wasn't happy to learn that this involves constant work, but it is, of course, worth it.

This isn't a chronological autobiography, but Valerie describes her acting career, troubled marriage, her relationship with her former husband, the late Ed Van Halen, and her relationship with her parents, and taking care of her dying mother. She also writes about her decision to take up a cooking career.

This is a fascinating journey toward self-discovery, which many people will find helpful.

Valerie Bertinelli has had quite a life. This was a heartwarming, sometimes hard book to read. It was painful to read about Eddie Van Halens death, as my brother died last year too, but her describing the love she felt and the emotions were relatable. All in all a very good book.

I have been a fan of Valerie Bertinelli for many years, loving her upbeat persona and thinking she had a perfectly tidy life. Her story was more complicated than I ever imagined.

I remember many things she references in this memoir. It took me back in time, her bittersweet and tumultuous romance with Eddie Van Halen, her vast careers in television and films. I never missed One Day at a Time.

I loved Valerie’s reflections on life, her dedication to her family and nodded at her common sense takeaways along her quest to find happiness.

Valerie Bertinelli writes as if you are just sitting and having a conversation with a friend. She is very open and honest which is refreshing and hopefully what she talks about in terms of weight and mental health/acceptance helps others who are struggling.

🎉🥳HAPPY PUB DAY to 𝐄𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐀𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲: 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐚𝐲 𝐈 𝐀𝐦 𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲 by Valerie Bertinelli.

Here’s my thoughts of the book:

* Although the book is described as a journey to self-love, it read more like a book dedicated to Valerie’s three most favorite things, her late ex-husband Eddie Van Halen, her son Wolfie, and food.

* One of the reasons I enjoyed the book is because I could relate to the relationship Valerie shared with her ex-husband. They were friends and family even after their divorce. I totally understood their dynamic.

However…

* Valerie writes about many moments she and Eddie shared while married to other people. This is where it got a little messy. Reading it felt like she was letting Eddie’s widow 𝘑𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘦 𝘓𝘪𝘴𝘻𝘦𝘸𝘴𝘬𝘪, and the world, know that she was Eddie’s true love, NOT the woman he was married to at the time of his passing. The shade of it all. I wonder if the writing of this book has anything to do with Valerie’s recent separation from her husband..

* There’s a lot of talk about food, including recipes for different dishes. It all sounded sooo good. FYI, be sure to have snacks handy while reading because you will get hungry.

* I would say this book is for women 40+. It’s because of my age and life experiences I was able to relate to a lot of what Valerie shares. The pain of losing parents, being an empty nester, divorce, and her battle with always wanting to lose that final 10 pounds, are all things that resonates with me.

* My rating is 3 1/2 stars. I took off a star because of the slow pace. But, overall I enjoyed reading things from her perspective.

Thank you Mariner Books for gifting me this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Honest and engaging glimpse…

I’ve grown up with the author of this book. I’ve never met her of course, but after so many years watching her on screen it feels like I know her. Or thought I did. Living your life in the spotlight couldn’t have been easy and that scrutiny doubled when she married a rocker.

This book gave a glimpse into how she dealt with it all. With focus on her family, especially her son and her first husband, this felt like an honest sharing of her life happenings, how they made her feel, how she adapted (or not) to the good and not so good.

I enjoyed the details she shared, about Wolfie (her son) and Eddie van Halen, the recollections full of joy and pain. Body image, health, family – none of these topics are easy but they often intersect and they certainly did for her. Inviting me in to relate to her situations surprisingly hit home as so many of the struggles (outside of fame and fortune of course) resonated with me.

A conversational style that worked really well, this was an insightful and entertaining, if not long, road to acceptance…

I'm about the same age as Valerie Bertinelli. I grew up with her, watching her, wanting to BE her. In Enough Already, Ms. Bertinelli chats with readers like the dear, familiar friend she is. She shares her raw experiences, her personal growth, and stories of her family. She also pairs some delicious recipes with her stories. It's a quick read, but it packs a punch. Warm, insightful, and inviting, just like a dear friend would be.
