As a queer history major, I don't often find myself learning vast sums of new information when I read new queer non-fiction books. Bi, by Julia Shaw, blew me away with the meticulous research and kindness the information was presented in. This is an absolute must-read for any member of the LGBTQ+ community or any all.

I’m so glad I found something so nonjudgmental and educational about sexuality. Going into this, I was unsure if this would be cringy or full of misinformation but it is so informative and well written. People are quick to judge and misunderstand and this is a must read.

A thoughtful and in-depth representation of what it means to be bisexual. An often misunderstood identity, this book confronts society's often misinterpretations of this sexuality and presents an educational message for readers.

This was an informative but easy to read book about bisexuality. The author is bi and mentions her own experiences throughout the book, but it's definitely not a memoir.
It's well-researched and insightful. I really liked how it explained the uniqueness of the bi identity- not *almost straight" or "almost gay" but rather a complete identity altogether. It isn't a history text primarily, but there is some queer history mixed into the chapters.
This is a book I'd recommend both to bi people looking to learn more and feel seen as well as those who want to learn more about supporting the bi people in their life (and according to the research in this book, there may be more than they think!!)
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC to read and provide and honest review.

Informative, engaging, and thought provoking. This is a historical, sociological, psychological exploration of bisexuality and the impact of bi-erasure. It is well-written, well researched, and has great references.

*5 stars*

This book needed to be written! If every person in my life would read this, I would give everyone a copy. The novel touches upon not only the scientific side of bisexuality as well as its history, but the dark social side of this sexuality and how it is demeaned and discarded as a perversion or a performance.

I think some could find the book a bit dry, but I personally enjoyed how it was very scientific, well-researched and thorough. Shaw uses concrete examples without bogging down the narrative and the small anecdotes interwoven with her own experiences explaining a topic.

This is a fantastic resource for the LGBTQIA+ community, and I sincerely hope this book acquires the fame and praise it deserves for what it does for the queer community as well as bisexuals everywhere.

I loved this book and the author did an amazing job with the writing. I would most definitely recommend it 10/10 read which is something that's hard to come by these days.

I found the book dryer than I expected. It was well researched and won't every say that the author didn't do her homework. But I also felt that it could have had more individual experiences or less clinical approach.
