I've read many books by Jason Kasper and have enjoyed them all. This one was no different. His books are faced pace and easy to read. Great characters that are easy to root for. I highly recommend this book.

This was the first book I have read by Jason Kasper and I really enjoyed it. Covert Kill is an action packed special ops action thriller with interesting and fun characters. The pacing is great and the author really knows his stuff. I will definitely read more books by Kasper.

I have found that I enjoy this author and slowly but surely, I've become a fan. This is a difficult genre to break into, as there are so many truly good authors in this space. Yet, when I read the first book in this series - I found that I TRULY enjoyed it. Enough, that when the next book came out, I didn't hesitate.

This book is the next in line of a certain story arc. Unfortunately for David and his team, his superiors seem to think that he is the reason that their program is in jeopardy. In reality, yes....they HAVE pushed many, many boundaries. But...they have also done so much good. David has an amazing ability to be able see the ENTIRE scope of what is REALLY going on - regardless of what he has been told. He also has a really good sense or intuition on determining what is "right". He does his best to try to understand what he is being told in order to do what his superiors are asking him to do. Unfortunately, that might be a bit different from what is necessary to create and complete the mission - at least within the original parameters.

Even though he and his team have brought back information that was over and above the initial target package and they were just able to thwart a MAJOR terrorist plot in the very recent past.....he is still seen as somewhat of a loose canon. He still does not hold the prestige and honor that he should have been awarded since some of his success has come based on the many, many times that his instincts have had him go against orders (yet he has always been "right" - at least so far)

So, when this situation is given to him and his team....his higher ups are still worried that they (David and his team) are going to go something to "screw things up".

That is all I'm going to say about the plot of this story. It starts with a bang, and honestly, things do not slow down after that. This is probably one of the most tamest of the books in this series so far. They do not have to fight "Duchess" on this case as much as they have in the past and they actually have been quite a lot of intel to help them in order to succeed at the various mission that they are given.

This is still a very interesting and exciting story. Our team of great guys are completely in the fight. This time in Africa. They are initially tasked with one mission, that slowly, and then NOT so slowly increases as situations develop.

Another winner in a truly great series.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. The opinions above are mine and mine alone.

Covert Kill by Jason Kasper
Shadow Strike #3

Action-packed thrill-ride from beginning to end ~ Could not put it down! Great addition to an amazing series!

What I liked”
* David Rivers “Suicide”: team leader, husband, father, ex-military, intelligent, team player, able to think on the fly, lethal, intriguing, works for the government but in a special capacity with an intriguing team of talented men
* Cancer: sniper, seasoned warrior, pragmatic, lethal, has premonitions, capable, deep, feel there is more to him than we have seen so far
* Angel: intelligence officer, puzzle solver, able to see the big picture, analyst, sees patterns, brilliant, militarily trained, lethal
* Doc and Racegun: two men that are a bit more elusive for me to pin down but equally interesting. One is a medic and the other sets the pace and leads on the ground – want to learn more about both of them
* Feeling that the men are a team but individuals with more to them than what we see when they are together on operations
* Getting to see new-to-me places in the world that I have never been and probably will never go
* Seeing these new places from the eyes of a team with a military task and experiencing it with them
* Getting a feel for the nitty gritty boots on the ground job that men like this team might experience when deployed
* Listening to the way the various members on the team felt
* Tolu: Nigerian, driver, entrepreneur, rap lover, hates Boku Haram for his own reasons
* Knowing who the bad guys were and seeing some of them dealt with
* The look at the fine line between the good and bad guys and how easy it would be to go either direction in life
* Knowing that there are men out there in real life willing to do the jobs this team does in this series
* The way the story is progressing and knowing that there is another book to look forward to
* That the “good guys”won – at least this time

What I didn’t like:
* Knowing that there are terrorist groups around the world kidnapping and killing and doing equally horrible things on a daily basis
* Knowing that there are corrupt politicians everywhere in the world
* Everything and everyone I was meant not to like

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely

Thank you to NetGalley and Severn River Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Covert Kill by Jason Kasper. I was given an ARC in exchange for my review. I want to thank Severn River Publishing and Net Galley for the opportunity. #CovertKill #NetGalley
The team is now in Africa. It is tasked with eliminating a terrorist leader. The team succeeds in capturing the terrorist and some of his hostages. Problem is he had other hostages who were not saved. So the team has to race against time to try and find and save the other hostages before an exchange takes place which would free the terrorist leader.
As the team follows leads it gathers intelligence of significant illegal activity sponsored by an old enemy who they have been hunting for some time. Several positive steps are taken towards uncovering the bad guy and his activities, though the full scope of such is not yet known.
The terrorist leader is taken out after the exchange and the team win the battle. But did it win the war? That remains to be seen.
I enjoyed the book and recommend it.

That was a lot of fun! Just one of your traditional, old fashioned special ops action adventures - I haven’t read one of these in ages! Apparently this book three of a series (yes, I’ve done it again) but I didn’t realise it until reading other reviews just now. So rest assured it can certainly be read as a stand alone.

Five operatives from a secretive CIA program are in Nigeria to kill an up and coming Boko Haram captain, Usman Mokhammad. As a side project, if they can get any intel on the terrorist banker, Weisz, that would be a bonus. Of course things do not go according to plan. An ambush on a stretch of road nets them just some underlings and Usman is still in the wind.

So their CIA handler, Duchess, sends them on a reconnaissance mission that nets some interesting intel. Then they are tasked with saving some American oil executives. All the while they learn more about an intricate plot by the Russians to monopolise the Nigerian oil industry and run drugs, all aided by corrupt officials.

Does it sound cliched - yes. But was it entertaining and exciting - yes! This was all about the action and there certainly was a lot of that. I really enjoyed it for a change, especially after a pedestrian NYE party book. Highly recommended for fans of action and espionage books or anyone who likes a rollicking good tale. Many thanks to Netgalley and Severn River Publishing for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.

Jason Kasper is at it again in Covert Kill and the phenomenal team of secret agency operators from Project Longwing are fascinating. Kasper might not be that well known but he has produced some of my favorite thrilling reads in this awesome series. The characters alone do not follow the same style as Mitch Rapp or Scot Harvath, but as a whole they are New York Times bestseller list worthy.

Riley, Ian, Cancer, Racegun, and leader David make up the Project Longwing team in Covert Kill as they navigate the African streets of Nigeria. The group is on a recon mission to find and apprehend Boko Haram warlord Usman Mohammed, which ends quickly as Usman has security that thwarts their first attempt. After being redirected to determine the whereabouts of a recently kidnapped group of American oil executives, the team surveils the large Sambisa Forest which leads to the recovery of a portion of the prisoners and the apprehension of the warlord. As with most foreign country excursions, Nigeria takes credit and wants the terrorists for themselves.

Following a couple casual B&E’s at a shipping port and local drug warehouse, the story comes to a head as David and the group are up against a non-stop operational tempo that leaves them ragged as Boko Haram demands the release and transfer of captured terrorists in exchange for the remaining captives Project Longwing sets up from the mother of all missions in known terrorist territory. You have to pick it up to see how everything ends, but you will not be disappointed.

Kasper does everything right, blending remarkable action and captivating intrigue, in this amazing Project Longwing operation. If you haven't picked up any of his work and enjoyed the team he’s created, then be sure to pick any of them up, but in my preference start with The Enemies of My Country. Not only does it exude the classic spec operator vibes and pure patriotism, but the amount of adrenaline that fuels these stories is second to none.

The author clearly understands the ins and outs of military operations, especially covert. The level of granularity in detail is impressive, and the story twists are well done.

An intense, intricate and ingenious military thriller, Covert Kill moves with the speed of a runaway freight train and packs an equally powerful punch. It’s another excellent novel by Jason Kasper, who’s absolutely crushing this young series.

Following the explosive events of Last Target Standing, David Rivers and his team of deniable and expendable CIA contractors are sent to Nigeria to follow the trail of those responsible for the July 4th attack on the United States. While in country, several American citizens are kidnapped by Boko Haram and held for ransom. The US government will do anything for the safe return of the Americans being held captive, so despite a very narrowly defined charter for David and his team they’re turned loose to track down those responsible and help bring these folks home. During this daring mission filled with improvisation and danger, they uncover a vast conspiracy that ties to their initial reason for being there in the first place. Now the only question is whether the team will survive long enough to continue their original mission.

There’s a lot to like about this book. First, it’s jam packed with action. The team is always on the move and bullets fly seemingly everywhere they go. Second, not everyone sees eye to eye the whole time. Which I find refreshing because it gets boring when everyone agrees all the time. Plus, this way you learn more about what makes each character tick. Third, the settings around Nigeria are not ones I recall experiencing in a military thriller and it adds another dimension to the already interesting storyline. Finally, it’s jam packed with action. Have I mentioned that before? Because it’s the truth.

If Jason Kasper isn’t yet on your radar, you need to fix that immediately. He writes highly entertaining, fast-paced military thrillers with strong action sequences that get your blood pumping. This series has legs and is now entrenched on my must-read list going forward. It should be on yours as well.

Covert Kill is a fantastic continuation of the Shadow Strike series, taking the action to Nigeria where the special-ops team is sent to assassinate a terrorist linked to the devastating attack on US soil during the events of the first Shadow Strike book. Jason Kasper dives into the nitty gritty psychological toll of the morally ambiguous rules of war where most of the enemy combatants are barely past their teenage years.
Keeping in line with the spirit of streamlined and grounded narrative, the story takes place prominently in the same geophysical region in a timespan of mere days, evoking a pressing and time-sensitive essence of the events in the story as the team juggles between their primary mission and the morally-just detours to protect innocent souls. The conflicts not only present extraordinarily crafted action sequences that put you in the front row seat for the cinematic-violent exuberance but also highlight the psyches of the leading characters to present them as more complex and intriguing than simple gunslingers in the modern-day Wild West. As aptly worded by in the narrative, “a fight not between good and evil but between combatants with various shades of brutality”. The detailed research into field tradecraft as well as the local ambiance of Nigeria create an immersive effect of dialing out everything else except the narrative while you’re reading.
Jason Kasper keeps readers and the characters alike on their toes by shaking things up with Covert Kill. While the Shadow Strike team has proven its efficiency in taking out the enemy with brutal and swift measures time and time again, this time they’re required to step out of their comfort zones with more intelligence-gathering-centric tasks, creating fun opportunities to see the team adapt to the changing circumstances with some smooth and some not-so-smooth outcomes. The unpredictability keeps the narrative exciting and the pages flipping.
Kickass dialogues, spectacular action, and a gripping plot that keeps turning and twisting just when you seem to have it all figured out; these elements make up the core of Covert Kill, creating a fantastic read for thriller fans looking for their next dose of high-octane storytelling.

Covert Kill, written by Jason Kasper, is the third book in his David Rivers and it's a heck of a ride. Rivers and his team are the tip of the spear of a blacker-than-black CIA program charged with eliminating the future leaders of terrorist organizations. Covert Kill begins with the team in Nigeria hunting for a Boko Haram "rising star" when Americans are kidnapped. During the search for the kidnapped Americans the team uncover a worldwide conspiracy with massive ramifications for the U.S.

Kasper, a former Green Beret, has written numerous books and each successive one he improves as a writer. I'm not sure he's written a bad book but now his writing is more fluid and the plots are more well-rounded. You can tell almost instantly he's former special forces because the action sequences, dialogue and techniques in the book all have the authentic quality of someone who's seen some stuff. The only quibble I have with the book is it ended suddenly. I guess he wanted to leave the reader wanting more. Well, it worked.

Covert Kill is an action packed thrill ride with many moving parts but are easily followed. Because this is the third book I would suggest reading the other two in order to get the full effect. However, Covert Kill works as a standalone too although you'll miss some of the backstory as to why they are doing what they do.

My sincere thanks to Jason Kasper, Severn River Publishing, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of Covert Kill.

Action throughout, there’s hardly enough time to relax while reading this excellent addition to the series. Just as one foe is defeated another steps up keeping the crew fighting for their lives as well as many others.
