I did not realize going into this book that it was the last in a trilogy.

The Son of Abraham is a well-developed dystopian book full of tons of action and a lot of thought-provoking questions about society, religion, and why people follow leaders.

Having not read the previous books I was surprised that I was not more confused reading this one, but this book did an excellent job of summarizing the other events so that it made perfect sense in this story.

I've read better books thats for sure. Some of this book was just too confusing to want to follow. I wouldn't suggest it if you get distracted easily.

I received an early copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review. This book is for anyone who enjoys a good doomsday/ end of the world domestic terrorist plots.. They are too scary for me. This one will not disappoint those who enjoy this genre. It is very intense and throws the reader/ listener into their lives. Very surreal stuff. Thank you #NetGalley, #DreamScape and #kathleenKaufman for my audiobook. Even though it is not my genre, I can appreciate a well written book.

The Son of Abraham by Kathleen Kaufman is the last book of the Diabhal horror trilogy and it is a somewhat devastating sorrowful ending. It can be a standalone listen but the previous books add context to its conclusion.

Taking place 10 years after a domestic terrorist act that nearly destroyed Los Angeles we open to the trusted TV reporter Cooper Carlson interviewing Esther the daughter of infamous Alan Robertson the cult leader, The Son of Abraham. Sadly, neither Esther or Cooper realize they are just cogs in Alan's diabolical plans to take over not just this life but the afterlife too.

This audiobook had me from the start especially with narrator Arielle DeLisle giving heartbreaking testimony from survivors of the cult's deadly L.A. attack. As the story unravels and we go down the crazy cult road we realize what if the cult isn't so crazy and Alan really is an ancient omnipresent being.

The horror fantasy aspect is the theme of this series but for this book I was more invested with the cult theme. I would have loved there to have been more about the followers and their reasons for believing in the Son of Abraham. Either way a fascinating tale of vengeance and evil.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from Dreamscape Media via #NetGalley for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

When “real world” scenarios meet “demon deals,” you get The Son of Abraham. While the demons aren’t necessarily scary, this is not a horror book, some are mean… however their meanness is outshine by their supernatural powers.

With that said… this book wasn’t a “supernatural” book either! It is definitely hard to categorize.

Overall the story was good. The first 1/3 are filled with lots of action and lots of excitement. The middle 1/3 is a slow burn. Lots of “what is really going on?” The final 1/3… I’ll admit I got a little bored at times. There were a few unneeded side stories l, that if were eliminated would have not had any impact on the story and would have shortened the book to just the right size to avoid that boredom.

With that said… I would still recommend this book to others.

I think because I haven't read the other books is the reason why I couldn't get into this book. I am interested in cults so maybe if I read the other books I can give this a better rating. It just didn't hold my attention.

This was so good! This book was so dark and had the best twist. I could not put this book down. I read the whole thing in one day because I just had to know what was going to happen next! This definitely a book I would record to anyone who enjoys horror or paranormal thriller.

I don’t read much in the way of horror these days. Mostly it’s because I don’t scare easily any more. Anyway, this is Kaufman’s final book in her “Diabhal” series. I would classify it as horror/fantasy/occult.
The protagonist, Esther, was well-developed, complex, and a likable character. I cannot say the same for any of the others. I just didn’t like them. The plot was decently developed and there was an arc to the story that was not easy to guess. I listened to this audiobook and narrator DeLisle did a good job reading this story.
Still, this book was only a 3-star read for me. I felt some parts were unnecessary for plot advancement, the horror aspect didn’t really horrify me, and the science behind some elements seemed inaccurate. One often repeated number seemed far too low for the event described. I just couldn’t suspend my disbelief.
My thanks to Dreamscape Media via Netgalley.

What happens when your run of the mill cult leader actually IS who they claim to be and their first terrorist attack might be just the beginning? What happens when the daughter he spared goes toe to toe with his evil?

What a fast, enjoyable read! Though I could have gone without the drift into fantasy, this had some solid imagery and horror. Kaufman sunk her teeth into me fairly quickly and kept me through a wild ride.

I just didn't get into this -- didn't finish it. It just didn't hold my attention; it felt mundane.

(short reviews are my thing)
