This was such a lovely audiobook! The narrators were amazing, the sounds really came alive from Sullivan Jones' mouth, and Winsome Bingham was so talented that I forgot she was an author and not a voice actor! I loved the addition of Foley sounds in the background to really set the scene. This was so much fun, I would love to play this audiobook for my kiddos some time, or even with my younger siblings. The addition of a recipe at the end is so charming, and can really bring families together as they listen to this wonderful book and then work together to create the dish. The use of repetition in certain phrases would really catch the kid's attention and this was so descriptive! I could practically smell what was cooking! The only bad thing about this book was that it made me so hungry. Highly recommend!

A mouthwatering story about family and food, this book tells the story of a young boy who is finally old enough to participate in the cooking of the family meal along side his grandmother. A beautiful and vibrant depiction of a large black family.

Excellent young reader! Fantastic story abou family, love, and tradition. The audio book narration was excellent as well. I usually think of children’s audio books as being an accompaniment to the print version. While that definitely applies, I realized they would also be great for kids of all ages, learning types and also those who are visually impaired. This audio book was very lively with lots of rhythm and sound movement. I especially enjoyed that the there were recipes to accompany the story. Highly recommend!!!

Special thanks to #DreamscapeMedia #SoulFoodSunday #NetGalley for allowing me to listen to an early release of this audio book

I wish I could give this audiobook six stars. This was very authentic. I loved the fact that it was interactive with the music and sounds. And I felt like I was there. It went by so fast and I was sad when it was over.

The narrators were great! Please keep writing these types of books. I wish I could have seen the illustrations as well!

Soul Food Sunday
by Winsome Bingham
The audible edition does send a digital link for the recipe for homemade Macaroni and Cheese. The book shows how families share the recipes of their food with the next generation. A young boy learns how to make homemade Macaroni and Cheese, to clean and ready Collard Greens, and ribs, chicken, and sausage. He helps prepare each dish with show and do lessons. Each time his grandmother showed him how to do the first part, then he finished the piles of food for the extended family. The recipe sounds delicious, and I hope to share this story in the future as it gets incorporated into classrooms.

This book is a beautiful illustration of Sunday dinners with the family. The description of the food the young boy and his grandma made are sure to leave you hungry. I was especially thrilled as an educator to hear the author link his family story back to science and history by discussing why they cleaned the greens and where the recipes came from. As a mom I was thrilled to find recipes at the end of the book. I cannot wait to try them with my family.

I don't usually listen to picture books on audio as half the experience of a picture book is looking at the beautiful illustrations. But I think this audiobook could be great to play while your child looks at the book themselves. The narration was great and this captured that feelings of being in the kitchen helping granny cook.

Sunday is a very special time at Granny’s house every Sunday. Granny and family members get the macaroni and cheese, greens, chicken, ribs and sausage ready for everyone to eat and spend time together.

This book is a great reminder of how important it is to spend time with family and make memories. The cooking and grilling of food brings this family together every Sunday.

This is the most delightful children’s book I have ever been privileged to hear!

Phenomenal, yet simple and positive reinforcing content, encouraging, educational and wonderfully fun with entertaining background music! I can picture any family member sharing this with a child, and together having so much fun to give it a go to create their own beautiful family traditions. So well done!! (And there is a mouth-watering recipe at the end for homemade Mac-n-cheese - yum! - pure comfort!)

Very Highly recommended!
Huge 5 Stars!

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

I was gifted with an advanced copy of the audiobook Soul Food Sunday By Winsome Bingham, Sullivan Jones and Illustrated by C. G. Esperanza thanks to NetGalley!

Soul Food Sunday is a window into the family traditions of gathering together for a meal. In this case, the family gets together on Sunday’s at the Grandmother or Granny’s house. The main character, her grandson, shares the day with the reader, and gives a detailed view of what it’s like to finally be old enough to help with preparing the Sunday meal with his Granny.

Soul Food Sunday feels like joy, and smells like a holiday meal in an African-American household also known as soul food. The grandson shares the main food dishes for a soul food dinner and how he helps with each one. This audiobook brought me back to my own Grandmother’s home. It also reminded me of making macaroni and cheese with my Mother. It was the one thing I distinctly remember being able to help with. I appreciate the author including the cooking that is also done by the male in the family - Roscoe Ray on the grill. I think it’s important to show that cooking isn’t just the Grandmother's role.

This audiobook will introduce you to new dishes or remind you of special family memories. It’s a reminder of why bringing the family together is so important. I loved the music, the background sounds, and even the additional pieces like the author’s/illustrators note and the macaroni & cheese recipe.

I think this is a great book to share with children, and introduce them to a possible new adventure with cooking. This children’s picture book is a debut for author Winsome Bingham and will be published on November 16, 2021.

Soul Food Sunday is a beautiful book about family traditions and food. The story follows a young boy who is included for the first time in helping prepare dinner with his granny for their extended family. I loved his supportive, close relationship with his grandmother. This book really helps impart how important and wonderful family traditions can be. I listened to the audiobook and the narration by Winsome Bingham and Sullivan Jones is wonderful! The audiobook sounds cinematic, but my only complaint is that there's music playing in the background for the entire book, which is a little distracting and loud. I've heard the book illustrations are amazing. This is sure to be a new classic!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC.

I listened to the audio version of this book. I loved it! I felt like I was in the kitchen watching Granny and her grandson prepare a delicious meal for Sunday dinner. We get to hear the author's voice through Granny's character and the author's note. Listening to Winsome Bingham talk about how her grandmother taught her to cook is a special treat. Young readers will be inspired to find out more about how families communicated by rotary phone back in the day. Bingham shares a tip about washing greens. You need to rinse them in lemon juice in vinegar to break down the dirt. I never knew that! There's also a recipe for mac and cheese. Kids are really going to enjoy learning about this special family tradition by listening to Soul Food Sunday.
