Sharon Lemke thought her life would be quiet now that she is retired. But she soon finds out differently. The first big change is when her daughter asks her to give a foster child, an eighteen-year old named Nikki, a room for a few days. Sharon reluctantly agrees but after she meets Nikki the two decide to make the change full time.

The second change involves Sharon's neighbors in the back. The Flemings moved to the neighborhood a few years ago. The father is a doctor and the mother looks like a society woman, always dressed to the nines and hair and makeup just so. They have one son, Jacob, who is in high school. But if that is so, why did Sharon see a small girl washing dishes one night at eleven?

She and Nikki decide to investigate. After a couple of attempts when the Flemings denied a small child being in the house, they decide to turn the case over to the social services department. But when that agency starts to investigate, the Flemings panic, worried that their dirty secrets will come spilling out? Is there really a child there and what will become of her?

Karen McQuestion has written a novel that delves into dysfunctional family relationships and how easily some children can fall through society's cracks. There is drug abuse, hidden secrets and a woman's rage that controls all those around her. This is my first book by the author. She started in self publishing and was the first self-publisher to sign an Amazon contract that led to a movie deal. Since then she has written numerous books that have a large audience. This book is recommended for mystery and women's fiction readers.

This is my first book by Karen McQuestion and I hope to read more from her. Overall, the book lacked the writing skills and interesting narrative needed to keep me engaged.

5 MEGA STARS!

(I received an ALC for free via NetGalley in return for an honest review.)

I have no idea what took me so long to pick this up, but HOLY, was it ever great! Suspenseful, kept my attention, and I didn’t want to put it down. The characters were well developed and relatable. The switching back and forth between characters was not confusing in the slightest, which I feel often happens when writing from different points of view, but no issues for this author. The conclusion/resolution is perfect, and everything leading up to it had me on the edge of my seat, eyes wide open.

Very eager to get my own physical copy of this masterpiece to add to my personal collection. Hats off to you, Karen McQuestion. Please write more suspense novels like this one. I’m hooked!

I really enjoyed the narrator, she did a really good job of making this story come to life. There were lots of twist and turns in this book, unfortunately it was not my cup of tea.

Thank you NetGalley. This book was not for me and I unfortunately could not connect to it at all. The narrator was good, though.

I think this book had a great narrator. Unfortunately, I lost interest in the story about half way through, but I will still encourage others to pick this one up!

This is a gripping, emotional story with a very unlikable characters. This story is told from multiple POVs. I often asked myself what would I do if I saw a little girl doing chores at 11pm at a house where I know that those neighbors do not have a little girl. The story involves kidnapping, lies, abuse and secrets. There are also w women who strive to find out the truth. The mystery part of this story is predictable but it was a good read that I did enjoy.

Thanks NetGalley for the advanced audiobook to review, the opinions are my own.

This book kept me entertained. The narration was good. I liked the plot but felt the execution could have used more dialogue.

I loved the way the character development was intertwined. Each was necessary for the story to work, and each character added to it. I was intrigued by the plot and how the author would accomplish the task of discovering who the little girl was. It was creative and unexpected. The pacing was good. I enjoyed this story very much. The narrator, Stacey Glemboski, made the story come to life, as if it was happening in my neighborhood.

I received an ARC from Karen McQuestion through NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion or rating of this book. I am voluntarily submitting this review and am under no obligation to do so.

I received a complimentary copy of this book "The Moonlight Child" and all opinions expressed are my own. This book was okay. I listened to it while I was doing other things. I don't think I would have liked it any better if I was reading it.

When Sharon Lemke notices a little girl in her next door neighbor's kitchen washing the dishes, she is taken aback. First, why is such a little girl washing the dishes. Second, why is such a little girl even up this late. And, third, what is a little girl even doing next door - they don't have a little girl. She is willing to write it off as a trick of the eye until her foster daughter, Niki, sees the girl as well. Sharon and Niki decide to investigate - but may grow to wish the they hadn't.

A good suspense thriller with a twist or two that was well written and was narrated very well.

What would you do if you seen a very young girl washing dishes late at night in a home where the only child is a teenage son?!?

Sharon happens to catch a glimpse through a window of a small child at the Flemming’s house. It was late and the child was washing dishes. Sharon snaps a picture, finding it strange. This starts the avalanche surrounding these two homes.

Nicki comes to stay with Sharon and ends up tangled with the Flemming’s. This continues to add to the questions and growing web of lies surrounding the Flemming family.

The story line in this book was very well done! I was so engrossed in each character’s situation. I was able to predict the twists coming but not always what the twists brought to the plot. The ending was definitely crazy but in a “I couldn’t put it down” kind of way!

I would 100% recommend this book and if you enjoy audio books listen to this one!

A big thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a audio ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I honestly went in knowing very little about the premise of this book and I’m really glad I did. This was such a fun read and so many unexpected twists and turns. First time reading this author, but definitely won’t be my last.

Thank you to NetGalley opportunity to read this as an ARC.

A fun and gripping read!
The pace of this was well done, at times I couldn't stop listening!
The plot and characters were well written - so much so that you really actually start to hate the villain a ton.
Overall I would recommend and can't wait for something else from this author!

Rating 3.5

The plot and the characters were, at times, over the top. But it was overall entertaining.

While well written and fairly compelling, I feel the villain of this story was written so loathsome and terrible that you begin to deeply hate her and once you do it’s torture to continue hearing anything involving her.

I kept waiting for her to get her comeuppance but what little happens to her in the end wasn’t satisfying after having to endure how purely vile she was. Disappointing.
Very pleasant reader though
