I love to listen to audio versions of books now that I am older. This one kept my attention throughout. There were a few dry moments though. Mrs. Flemmings character was a little over the top at times and with the audio version Sharons voice was sounding much older by the end of the book. All in all I enjoyed it. I would have liked a little more detail with the ending though. So MR. and Mrs. Flemming ended up incarcerated but there really no details after the rescue of Mia..... It was so good I would listen to it again!

I want to thank NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to listen to and review this book.

I really enjoyed this book. Sharon, a somewhat nosy retiree, begins to suspect something strange is going on at her neighbor's house. When Sharon agrees to take in Nicki, a young woman who has aged out of foster care, the two of them team up to investigate. The neighbor, Suzette, is a sociopath with a very, very dark side who cares about keeping up appearances and not much else. When Sharon and Nicki start to think Suzette is hiding a child in her basement they decide they have to do something about it. I loved the relationship between Sharon and Nicki. I also really enjoyed switching between each character's point of view. This was a page-turning thriller that I finished in two days.

4.25 stars

This was a fun story with a few different dimensions to it. This was definitely one where I immediately hated one of the characters, and that only grew as the story continued; I wasn’t sad to see the way her ending played out. It was an interesting, suspenseful thriller, and I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for future books from this writer.

The Moonlight Child by Karen McQuestion is a predictable story about a kidnapping and foster kids and bad parenting. It could have been heartwarming if not for the extreme detail and dialogue and explanations and all of the different POVs. This story was too much of the boring things, too long, and there was not enough story, or clever surprises make the story worth it.

The pacing was very slow and I get the point of the relationship between Sharon and Nikki but it was not realistic or believable. Maybe the story would have been improved by cutting it.

I kept reading hoping that they will be a twist. I kept trying to add little details or figure out a little twist that might be coming because I couldn't believe that the story was going in such a simple and basic direction.

The Moonlight Child was just too long for the heartwarming story this was trying to be. Also, marketing this as a Domestic Thriller (as that cover suggests) isn't fair to the reader. A more simple-brighter cover would have been better. This was a difficult book to finish.

This book was so good! Sharon notices a little girl doing dishes in the window of the neighbor where she has never seen a small child before and then sees her getting yelled at and moved out from the window. Suspicious? Her daughter Amy is a lawyer and calls her to ask a favor for her to take in Niki and give her a place to stay. Sharon is reluctant but does as Amy asks and this is the best thing to happen to both Sharon and Niki. Amy was Niki's foster care advocate when she was in the system and even now that she is out of the system she is still there when she needs help and she does now. The two of them do a little sleuthing and find out the neighbors have a secret and not everything is as it seems. They are harboring a little girl they kidnapped. This is the story of how she came to be there and how it is discovered and what happens after.

I found this book to be very enjoyable! It was a fast paced thriller that kept me entertained from start to finish. I listened to this book on audio and I thought the narration was also excellent. While I knew what was going to happen in the end and this wasn’t a thriller with any big twists I still found it to be interesting and different enough of a story that it didn’t need any big twists. I will definitely be looking forward to reading something else from this author!

I wasn’t sure where this was headed and I was confused because there was three story lines to keep straight. Once I sorted out who everyone was I was invested. The characters were likable except one and I did wish that the story was more detailed. Such as, the first family and their lives.
I was happy about the ending, it’s crazy the kind of world we live in and this was a good example of that.
I chose to listen to this book on audio and enjoyed Stacey Glemboski as the narrator. This was 9 hours and 53 minutes long.
Thanks Netgalley.

Sharon Lemke doesn’t know what to think. Looking out her window late one night, she sees a little girl washing dishes in her neighbor’s window. But she knows that the Fleming’s don’t have a young child. It’s not until a teenage foster girl staying with Sharon also notices strange goings on at the Fleming residence that Sharon contacts the authorities. But they seem uninterested, leaving Sharon and her ward to investigate themselves. A taut domestic thriller

I think this book is miscategorized. It's labeled as a mystery or thriller (even shockingly horror), but I found it's not that at all. The Moonlight Child is a story of families, three very different families experiencing three very different circumstances. First is the story of Sharon who agrees to help foster child, Niki. Then there is the story of the Flemings who are holding onto a disturbing secret, and finally there's the story of Wendy & Erwin whose daughter is missing.

Because I expected a mystery or thriller, I thought the tension would be tight. I think it didn't deliver on that, as much of the story is the daily lives of Sharon and Niki, and the day-to-day happenings at the Fleming's house. There is also the occasional jump to Wendy and Erwin. I think this story might be better classified as a family drama with a found family trope. I don't think this is a bad thing, but it just wasn't the story that I was hoping to read.

I think the best think about this book is the interactions between Sharon and Niki. Their relationship is the best part of this book, and it came across pure and authentic.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ALC. I enjoyed the narrator, Stacey Glemboski.

Half this story is heartwarming and half is mystery/people being assholes. The bonding between Niki and Sharon was wonderful, I loved the character development and their bonding over the sketchy neighbor happenings. I just wish the ending were less expected or was something a little more. That would have really made it a full 5 stars for me. B+ rating really enjoyed it.
