A vengeful serial killer & a dangerous arsonist keep Danny Flint’s hands busy in this installment. It’s a solid mystery, with a nice bit of twist at the end.

[What I liked:]

•There was plenty of plot happening between the serial killer’s murders & the mysterious arsonist’s crimes. The timeline is tight & each chapter is headed with the time, date, & place of the scene, which helped me keep track of what was happening.

•The way the arson case gets a break is pretty clever. The wrap-up on that case was probably my favorite part of the book!

•It was nice to spend time with Danny & Rob again, & even Tina makes a reappearance in this one!

[What I didn’t like as much:]

•I get that being tormented & feeling like a loner can lead someone to commit antisocial acts, but with Stephen it seemed a little too sudden of a switch from a gentle person who has never even considered violence, to suddenly planning a premeditated murder to happen in a few hours.

•There’s not much character development for Danny, Sue, Rob, or our other recurring characters.

CW: bullying, ableism, domestic violence, murder, torture, child abuse/neglect

[I received an ARC ebook copy from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. Thank you for the book!]

A good read with two story lines running at the same time. Well told and not as gory as some of his other books! I like how the characters are developing, especially the relationship with his boss. An enjoyable book in a interesting series

I have read another one of this series, so knew the detectives. Th e books work fine as stand alone though. There are some references to previous crimes, but they are done in a natural way so are not irritating.
This book follows two crimes, a serial killer and an arsonist. The investigations seem a bit drawn out in places (my only criticism) but are realistic.
The series is set in the late 80s , you come to realize that some techniques just were not around then which gives a slightly old-fashioned feel to the books , not in a negative way. All in all a good read

Kill for you by Trevor Negus.
Dci Danny Flint book 5.
Although this is the first book I've read in this series I was able to read it. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Will definitely be looking at the others. I hope there is more to come. 5*.

While I normally enjoy this series by Trevor Negus, I have mixed feelings about Kill For You. While the premise was a good one, While I liked it well enough, I just didn't find the story as fast paced or interesting as I have with earlier books in this series. I did feel that the ending wrapped the story up quite nicely, though.
There are two killers, on the loose, in Nottinghamshire county. One is out to get revenge on those who've wronged him and the other is setting as many deadly fires as he can.
DCI Danny Flint and his crew are working round the clock to find out who these killers are so that they can stop them as soon as possible.

I really enjoyed this it was an old fashioned police procedal which kept you entertained and focused..

Although it is part of a series it didn't feel that you needed to have read the others, although it may have been good. Will definitely be exploring those.

I was given an advance copy by the publishers and netgalley but the review is entirely my own.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Inkubator Books for an advance copy of Kill for You, the fifth novel to feature DCI Danny Flint of Nottinghamshire Place’s Major Criminal Investigation Unit, set in 1987.

After a quiet spell the MCIU is suddenly busy with two killers to find, one is a serial arsonist and the other drowns his victims.

I enjoyed Kill for You, which is a straightforward police procedural with a psychological bent. It tells the story from various points of view, including the unnamed arsonist and Stephen Meadows who is drowning those who have tormented him, so the reader gets the investigation but also a study of the killers’ motives and modus operandi.

I’m a big fan of police procedurals as I like the hunt and the logical narrowing of the field of suspects. I wasn’t so keen on the killers’ points of view as there is only so much an author can offer on that front and it’s a crowded field. Mr Negus does a fair job of explaining their mindsets. I found the investigations more interesting. The team do sterling work, but in both cases it is chance remarks from the public that lead to the solution.

The novel is very readable with enough developments and reveals to keep the reader turning the pages. It’s not big on characterisation, but doesn’t have to be as it’s very much a plot driven novel.

Kill for You is a solid read that is an easy way to pass a few hours. 3.5*

I’ve discovered the author’s book on amazon while looking up for something new to read and Taken to Die caught my attention in a second. I really enjoyed that one so I had to request Kill for You because I wanted to read more about Danny Flint and how they used to solve crimes in the 80’s without most of the technology from nowadays.
It’s a fast paced police procedural thriller that I devoured in one sitting. So many times I’ve thought about who was the actual killer and perpetrators behind all those crimes.
A must read story for any thriller lovers.

Thank you Netgalley and Inkubator books for the eARC.
This new DCI Flint book is another good one; this time he's after two perpetrators: one a gentle giant who's had enough of the bullies in his life and turns to revenge, and the other a pyromaniac turned murderer.
As usual the writing is taut and suspenseful, the story thrilling and the end gripping and a bit of a surprise. Definitely recommended!

DCi Danny Flint has a mystery to solve, in Nottinghamshire, of two killers, one a pyromaniac, the other a victim of abuse, who decides that he has had enough, and he is going to turn on the people who have abused him, starting with Suzy Flowers. What happens to her would spoil the novel if I revealed it, but this is a gripping page turner, and well worth a read. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for giving me a copy of the book.

I discovered Trevor Negus through Net Galley a while ago and I have loved every book since. This was no different, a thrilling crime novel that I felt like I read without even taking a breath.

I love the way Trevor writes, with different story lines all linking up , different backstories, great character development and enough twists to keep me happy without being unbelievable. I like the element of revenge to the crimes as well, it makes it feel more real than just random attacks.

I enjoyed the setting of this book - 1987, it was interesting to see how crimes were solved with no access to cellphones and internet and the different way Police work through the evidence compared to books set today. I also love the gritty feeling of the setting, it feels dark and depressing.

I read it in one sitting, I was gripped by the murders and the unfolding story.

DCI Danny Flint is fast becoming one of my favourite detectives and I can't wait to see what is next.
