I just couldn’t get into this book. I listened to it as an audiobook and part of it was the narrator. The ending was just though.

This book was definitely made for audio. The narrator built the suspense quite well. I thought the characters were well written. It is hard when families merge and you don't always know what is hidden. I would recommend this audiobook.

Audiobook review - The Second Marriage, Jess Ryder.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I listened to this in one sitting. 8 hours in one day. I was obsessed. I honestly couldn’t find a point to stop so ended up spending all day listening to it! I had to learn all of the secrets!

Lily took a job as a home-school tutor and fell quickly in love with her boss, Edward. She adores his son, Noah, and Noah is beginning to warm to her too. With Edward being a widow, there’s no meddling ex-wife in the picture. It’s the perfect marriage! That is until Noah tells Lily that everyone is lying to them about his mother being dead. Could Edward and Noah’s two sisters really be covering up something that big? Why is Edward repressing Noah’s memories? Does Noah know something about his mother’s death?

This is just everything that a domestic thriller needs to be! I fell in love with Noah and felt such a protective connection with him. He just needed a mummy and someone to listen to him! I loved the idea that the secrets lay with him. It made for such an exciting plot that the most important character was the young child.

The twists throughout, despite working them out pretty early on, were perfectly executed and still gave me the goosebumps needed in thrillers. The split to duel perspective half way through the story really added to this and kept me hooked, making me unable to stop listening! Perfectly timed- bravo.

Being completely honest, this is one of those don’t-judge-a-book-by-its-cover moments. In my opinion, the cover reaaaaallly doesn’t do it justice. It just looks a bit bland to me. Why not try to capture that beach house in the cover? Or an image of a young child to signify Noah’s importance?

What really tied this book together, however, was the epilogue. This really set it apart from other thrillers of this sort as it made it all the more believable! Usually, these sorts of plots are left hanging. Characters are triumphant and then that’s it. They go back to their lives. This really did tie up all of the loose ends and allowed me to fully believe the events that happened. It just made it more real for me!

Thank you to Bookouture for providing me with an ARC of this audiobook on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review!

I did the audio of this book - I was so hooked I cleaned so I could listen more.
After leaving a stressful job, Lily goes for a job interview- a homeschooled little boy having trouble coping with the loss of his mother.
Shortly after, Edward begins to seek Lily out. After a short courtship, they marry.
And the fun begins.
Lily becomes obsessed with Edward's previous wife, Noah's mother- Claire died from a food allergy. Why can't Lily find any pictures of her? Why the secrecy? And hiding Noah away from the world?
The truth has a way of coming out - with the help of Marsha, Lily's best friend.
Lots of family drama, twists and great plot.
Narrator did a great job holding my attention!

Thank you NetGalley for another amazing read! This thriller caught me off guard lol. I was not expecting it to be this good! I really thought I had it all pegged because of how many thrillers I have read, but the twist got me! This was definitely a fast read that will keep you guessing up till the end! If you love domestic thrillers, this is the read for you!

This book had so many twists and kept me in the edge if my seat the entire time. Lily had no clue what she was getting into when she married Edward. When secrets start to emerge she goes with her gut and trust her step son over her husband finally finding out what happened to her first wife and previous fiancé.

Huge thanks to NetGalley for the early release in exchange for an honest review

This book has 'Lifetime Movie' feel to it. Seconds into the story major red flags come up, along with the 'marry in haste, repent at leisure' kinds of thoughts and actions.

The audio book is a way to pass the time on some tedious chore in the house, though the heroine became too insufferable too soon for me to care what happened to her or Claire or Faye. or Ned or Edward (or any of the kids).

But thanks to the publisher for the ARC.

The Second Marriage by Jess Ryder was a good read. I liked the character development and the basic theme. I figured out the plot and storyline early on. This doesn’t make me give up on a book especially if I like the narrator, and Rosamund Hine kept me engaged. This was my first Jess Ryder book, and I will give her another try. Recommended read.

***** I received an ARC from NetGalley, the publisher, and the author for my honest review. *****

A pretty solid domestic thriller! There were lots of twists and turns and red herrings. I often didn't know who to believe. Lilly is Edward's second wife. The relationship moved pretty quickly and after the vows, secrets start to emerge. Lilly's stepson Noah starts telling her the family lies, so who to believe? The love of Lilly's life or her young, troubled stepson? Throw in some serious drama with friends, controlling relationships, and past love interests and The Second Marriage stays pretty interesting.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Media for an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Thank you so much for my ALC!
Summary:
Originally, Lily was hired by Edward as the private teacher of his son Noah. But now, she's marrying this wealthy, attractive man. As he hired her, he applied one rule: She mustn't, under any circumstances, talk about Noah's mother in front of him. She obeys, even though it strikes her as odd - she trusts Edward, after all. But her best friend is not so certain of his sincerity. Then, at their wedding party, someone mentions Edward's first wife, Claire. And Noah confides in Lily that he is sure his mother is still alive - and that she's writing to him...

My opinion:
The Second Marriage was a great story about love, lies, and betrayal. It was very character driven, and I loved the character developments in Lily and little Noah. I didn't like Lily as a main character at first and wanted to scream at her how blind she was, but she became more and more sympathetic over time. I also think everyone needs a best friend like Marsha. This story was very twisty, which I loved. It was a great story, but it was very long and detailed, which I found to be a bit dragging. There was a lot going on - a bit too much, for my liking. If you like twisty slow burns, you will definitely love The Second Marriage.

It was my first book by Jess Ryder, and I definitely want to explore more of her work.

Parts of this book reminded me of:
- The Second Wife by Rebecca Fleet

A book that can easily tell you that don't marry too soon until you met ur ' the one'.
Lily thinks she married the perfect man but is he really?
A lot of tension ,twist and turns and will you keep you guessing from ever chapter.
There are some chapters that are quite repetitive but the last few chapters are very intense and written perfectly.

When Lily becomes Noah’s private tutor she never imagined she would also fall in love with his dad, Ned and end up marring him. She also didn’t imagine that her life would be turned upside down. This book is a very twisty turny example of the old saying “If it’s too good to be true, it probably isn’t “.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the audio ARC.

GIRLS BEWARE OF MEN WHO MOVE IN FAST. I have seen this alot in books and real life and it always seems to have some issues.
Lilly marries a man who is a widow with 2 girls and a young boy . He dates her for a short time and proposes marriage. Lilly accepts and after they get married there are some surprises she discovers that she didn't know about and lots of secrets!
I really enjoyed this audio book! I was hooked from the start and the narrator was very good as well.
Enjoy!

Full of suspence and mystery!
Throughout the book the readers are forced to navigate within a web of secrets, lies, a missing woman and even a dead one, too.

This is a great book - I had the pleasure of listening to the audiobook-version; which is very well produced.

Finally! It’s over. I decided to try the audiobook version of this novel for a change and I’m surprised that I enjoyed it. The narrator was amazing, a bit weird listening to the dialogues but after a few chapters in, I was enthralled.

Honestly, I don’t feel any sympathy for the other woman. I mean, you can’t expect me to feel sorry for someone who deliberately stole someone’s husband and broke a family apart. Ugh! Whatever happened to her, she brought it on herself and she deserved it.

My first book from Jess Ryder and it was OK. Not that memorable if you’d ask me but I’m totally impressed with the voice narrator. Good job!

I truly loved this book. I’ve not heard of or read anything before by Jess Ryder, but she’s on my radar now. I’ve already added other books she wrote to my Want To Read shelf!

I genuinely admired the protagonist, Lily, in this domestic thriller with twisted characters. The flashback POV from a different character was especially intrusion. I stayed up late devouring this one to see what the heck was going on!!! So glad I did!!!
Thank you, Jess Ryder, Bookouture & NetGalley for my early copy to listen to and honestly review!

This was my first Jess Ryder book and what should I say? I have to read her other novels as soon as possible!
I was completely hoocked from the very beginning and if it would not have been about adulting I would have devored it in one piece!
This story is about Lily, who married Edward who is a widower with two grown up daughters and a young son. That is the setup. But from the day the two of them get married everything turns out in a very twisted way. At first I thought Lily was blue-eyed and does not realize what's going on. But just you wait and see!!
I don't want to give away too much of the plot. The blurb for this book is one of the best I've ever read- honestly. If you like domestic thrillers go for this!
I was approved an audioversion of this book and Rosamund Hine does a fantastic job!!!
Thank you very much #NetGalley #Bookouture Audio, Bookouture for and advanced audio version

Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy. The narrator was great! I have had issues with narrators and the story skipping/pausing in past books, but did not have issues with this one. While I do think this plot has been overdone-rich man that turns controlling and younger girl having an affair and ending up wanting to leave etc, the suspense was good, the character development was good, and it kept my attention all the way through.

Thank you Bookouture Audio, Netgalley for the audio ARC - this was a fabulous listen!

** warning ** - do not start this book late in the night, you will not want to sleep once you start this!

Lily meets Edward to be his son Noah's home school tutor, an year later they are all set to get married - it's Ed's 2nd marriage and he has clearly warned Lily never to bring up the topic of Noah's mom in front of the child.
On the day of the wedding Noah tells Lily that his mum is not dead, and she is very much alive - this of course disturbs Lily a lot, she confronts Edward and he just brushes off everything she tells him.
Edward has 2 daughters from his first marriage, the father and daughters have an unusually tight friendship kind of a bond - the daughters of course do not like Lily - but why? Lily has maintained her distance from them and yet they never warm up to her.

Lily's friend Marsha warns her that something is not ok, and when Lily ignores all her warnings Marsha digs deeper into Ed's past and that's when things get even more interesting!
Overall this was a very thrilling, engaging book and kept me on the edge of my seat when I was listening - the narration by Rosamund Hine is too good.

This was my 1st book by Jess Ryder, and I definitely want to get my hands on all the others as soon as possible.

Lily is caught off guard by Edward’s marriage proposal but graciously accepts. She was working for Edward as his son’s private teacher and things quickly progressed between she and Edward. Lily has a great relationship with Noah. She isn’t as close with Edward’s older daughters but is hopeful a relationship with them will form. Noah is homeschooled due to severe anxiety caused by being abandoned by his mother whom is presumed dead. Edward forbids anyone from bringing up Noah’s mother to protect him. One day Noah tells Lily his mother is alive and is coming to get him. Noah also says his sisters and father know his mother is alive. This is when Lily realizes she may not know her husband as well as she thought and there are far more secrets buried deeper then she could’ve imagined.

This was so cleverly written and engaging from the beginning. It keeps you guessing and as soon as you think you know where it’s going another plot twist happens. This was a great suspenseful ride.

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
