I loved the two-person point of view and the strong female lead in this book, but other than that I was kind of disappointed. Everything interesting seemed to happen at the beginning and it was hard to connect with the characters and finish the book. The world-building was hard to keep up with and I found myself often getting lost.

Thanks to the publisher for providing an eARC of The Rebel Healers in exchange for an honest review.

I just really, really, couldn't get into any of the characters here. The narrative was clunky and I was consistently feeling like I was missing some non-existent earlier book that would have made me invested in their lives and relationships.

Found the story very difficult to get into. Too many names, too much terminology introduced right from the start which was overwhelming and made the world building feel messy. The two POV's didn't help this at all.

I wasn't a huge fan of this book. I wasted the first bit being confused and trying to put together the missing pieces. I almost considered DNF this because I felt so lost. I liked the strong lead and the two point of views. Other than that I had to force myself to finish this book.

"Know that you have significant leverage over this Droc'ri that holds your soul piece. He thinks he can use your fragment to force you to obey him. You can use the bit you hold to do the same and bend him to your goals."

Lany Marie tells her story in a two-person point of view. Where Ellara is the strong willed female heroine who faces her many obstacles head-on and doesn't let ancient old traditions stand in her way. Then there is her evil adversary, Rokan, a two hundred year old sorcerer of the Droc'ri order who wants to bind Ellara to him so he can take hold of her power and use it for his own ends.

I am always drawn to strong female leading characters and Ellara definitely fits the mold. I liked Rokan and was bewitched by him. His goals are evil and selfish but you can tell he really struggles with the choices he has to make. There is good in him but it is buried by layers of hurt and deceit placed there by the order he never wanted to be a part of. I really emphasized with him at times. There were a few pleasant surprises that I won't spoil for you and you can discover for yourselves.

I really wanted to give this a book an astounding 4 star review but there were a few things I just couldn't look past. When I first started this book I felt like I was missing something. I even googled to see if I somehow started with the second book. The current prologue should have been thrown out the window and replaced with something that would bridge those gaps but instead I was wondering what the heck was going on for the first two chapters. The glossary wasn't helpful at all. I have no problem with authors creating their own words and labels for things to aide in their world building but for the love of GOD give the reader a good glossary so we can keep up! I really struggled at times with Lany Marie's jargon.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read but I would not say it was first class or phenomenal by any means. It was with out a doubt a unique and captivating storyline and plot. There were evil assassins with magical powers that could hurl black lightening bolts. It was filled with lies, deceit, power struggles and a few plot twists so those were fun. This is the first book in The Chronicles of a Fractured Soul series and I will definitely read the next book. 3.75 stars

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book!

So this one was a little tough to rate. The first 50% of the book was so confusing, you have a brain dump of characters who you are supposed to get attached to quickly. Then there is a prophecy, but the main character who the prophecy is about has a husband who is a sea captain, and the main part of the prophecy is that the "Fractured Healer" will have a sea captain husband. But then the original husband dies???? See where the confusion starts, all in the first 5ish chapters. Once you get passed the first 50% though, everything starts making more sense and you actually start liking the characters and routing for them. I think this is Lany Marie's debut novel, so I think the rest of the novels in the series will only get better, plus you got passed the brain dump of characters and world building in book one. Overall it was an enjoyable story.
