This is book 3 in the fantastic "BeWere My Heart" series. I would recommend starting with Bears Behaving Badly (book 1) then reading A Wolf After My Own Heart (book 2) before reading this book, Mad for a Mate. If you enjoy reading paranormal romance and/or books with shifters, you will like reading this book series.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This book is well written and the characters are described well. This is a fast paced slow burn romance. This book is entertaining and a great book to end this Trilogy but if they os another book to make this a series I would definitely read it! I highly highly recommend everyone to GO AND READ THESE BOOKS BY MARYJANICE DAVIDSON. This book is in stores for $8.99 (USD).

*I had the absolute privilege of getting an ARC from the publisher, SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca, and Netgalley and I could not be more grateful. All thoughts and comments are my own.*

I've been following this series from the start and was super excited to read Magnus' story.

Magnus Berne is a bear shifter we were introduced to in book 2. He owns an island and for some reason keeps finding naked mannequins on his property. One morning he finds one that looks suspiciously human, only to find out it's Verity sleeping. He is more than intrigued. Then, absolute mayhem ensues as par for the course with a MaryJanice Davidson book

Honestly, this book was insanity, extremely entertaining insanity. I had a lot of fun reading it. The romance aspect between Magnus and Verity is pretty slow burn, as is typical for the author, with a little snippet of smexy times in the end. I'm not mad at it, it's just on brand.

Overall, this was fun and pretty entertaining. I'm looking forward to more in the series.

Mad for a Mate is book #3 in the BeWere My Heart series however it can be read as a standalone. I haven't read any previous novels and I thoroughly enjoyed it and never felt as if I were missing information. If you're a fan of Kerrelyn Sparks (especially her Love at Stake series) then I think you'll enjoy this - if you like grumpy Scottish men, shifters, slight romance and drops of humour then this is definitely a book for you.

This is a slow burn with no more than kissing until late in the book - it very much focuses on the humour and mystery over the romance. It was a good book but I would have liked a little more on the romance. Overall, Mad for a Mate was a light, enjoyable read and it tempted me to go back and read the rest of the series.

Note: Although I receive an ebook review copy of Mad for a Mate, I listened to the audiobook via Scribd and I'd give the narration a 3/5. Enjoyable and the grumpy Scottish accent was portrayed well but I did find a lack of emotional connection throughout.

3.5 stars.

This is book 3 in the BeWere my heart series. It can be read as a stand alone, I have not read the previous books. This paranormal introduced me to squibs. These are shifters who can't shift. Someone is killing them off but they all look like accidents. Magnus is a shifter who keeps finding naked mannequins on his property until one morning he finds Lane sleeping. He's intrigued. This is a fun read with all sorts of characters that I guess were introduced in the first two books.

I enjoyed this paranormal romance/mystery between bear shifter Magnus and Verity, a squib (bear shifter who can't shift. Lots of humor, snark, and quirky characters make this a great read. Recommended.

When Verity ,a squib, shows up on Mangus’s island flopping like a fish, she is astonished when the handsome bear shifter welcomes her. Together they need to figure out why someone is killing off squibs and if she’s the next target! This book will make you giggle, smile and laugh out loud in places. Probably wanna read it alone so people don’t think you have gone nuts.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own

Mad for a Mate is book 3 in MaryJanice Davidson's BeWere My Heart series. It can be read as a standalone, but reading the first two books will give you a more rich and in depth experience.

Verity and Magnus's story is a very slow burn romance that really focuses more on the humor and mystery of the story. Both characters are very likeable and the rest of the cast are fun and well written. To me, the best add-on to this book is that there are endnotes for most of the chapters. They explain situations, give definitions, and refer to which book the note comes from. The notes are usually funny and are a great prompt to get you to read the other books in this series if you are reading it as a standalone.

The worldbuilding, as usual, is good and character development and story arcs are easy to read and enrich the main story instead of taking away from it. The pacing is fairly quick through most of the book after you get through chapter one. Also, if you are a fan of Shelley Laurenston, you will enjoy this book.

Thank you Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for sending me this book in exchange for my honest review.

I’m not sure what I just read, but it was a wild ride and I enjoyed every minute of it. Full of drama, laughs, action and romance, Mad for a Mate is the third book in a series. I didn’t know this before I started it, but I feel it would be better to read the other two prior to starting this installment, because I felt a bit lost at the beginning missing some backstory. The long list of quirky, interesting characters takes time to follow and become familiar with, but in the end, it was very worth it!

This book was insane in the best of ways. Diving into this series after it started is a risky business, but you get a reward in the form of non-stop witty banter and craziness.

Magnus moved to town and proceeded to live on the loneliest place one could be - a solitary island, accessible by boat. After some weirdness, he ends up coming face-to-face with another shifter who washes up naked. Things get even stranger from there when she reluctantly introduces him to her team of prank/daredevil friends. Then things get sadder when they start to die.

There's an element of murder-mystery here, but it is mostly about the quirky family that has been established among the cooler shifters in the community. Try as he might, Magnus can't avoid their draw, especially with his goddaughter in their ranks. This book delivers the strangest yet most awesome of HEA, so it all ends up paying off in the end. I put this story down with a sigh and a smile.

When Verity Lane comes walking out of the water on Magnus Berne's beach - he is instantly suspicious and intrigued by the non-shifting werebear. Attraction grows as the two investigate the suspicious accidents befalling Verity's friends. Familiar faces from Davidson's previous novels also appear alongside the main plot.

Although I enjoy the stream-of-consciousness/manic pixie girl ramblings of the characters in these novels, it sometimes makes it difficult to distinguish which character is which when they all think the same way.

This book is part of a series. It can be read alone but it does reference the earlier books.
Verity is a Damp Squib, a group of shifters who are just as strong and fast as shifters but cannot actually shift. When she does a dare (from the group Damp Squibs) and wakes up naked in Magnus' backyard, he goes to see what is out there. From there on, this bear shifter sets about following her and making sure she is safe from whoever is murdering squibs. This initializes some strong feelings between the two.
Opinion
The reason I read this book is that I am a fan of MaryJanice Davidson. Though I haven't read the earlier books in the series, I was confident that I would enjoy this one. Davidson has a way about her writing that makes me chuckle quite often. This is true with the words spouted out of Verity's mouth. Verity's pension for speaking before thinking gives a good laugh. The flow of the story was perfect, though the whole reason Magnus went looking in his yard in the first place was thrown to the side. I plan on looking in to the earlier books and will keep my eyes out for any more that may come in this series.
Many thanks to Net Galley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for providing me with an ARC of this book.

The third book in BeWere My Heart. Mad for a Mate is an entertaining, fun read. Magnus Berne and Verity Lane are unique and likeable characters, the story has humor, suspense, and romance, however I feel the romance in this story was a by-line and didn’t feel the deep connection between the characters. In saying that I did enjoy the overall story and will read more by this author.

I love this author and I will always automatically pick up her books! I love the previous two books in the series and this one did not disappoint! Now I am looking forward to the next one in this awesome series about shifters and fated mates!

Love the cover and the blurb! Mad for a mate was a funny romance and an interesting read.
Thanks to the publisher for a copy to read and I voluntarily left this opinion.

Difficult to rate. I have tried twice to read this one and just can't get past the second chapter. It isn't holding my interest at the moment. I am really disappointed with myself as I have read other titles by Mary Janice Davidson and loved them, and found them to be fairly fast paced and unputdownable. So why can't I get into this one?
Will probably have another try at a later date and see if I can get further and be more drawn into the book.
Hence the 1 star
Not adding a "review" or "DNF" anywhere as hoping to give the book another go at a later date.

It sure is quirky and fun. I loved all the banter between the characters. It’s well written with humor, romance, and mystery woven together. I would advise reading the previous books. I didn’t and felt a bit lost a few times. But overall it was a fun read.

Thank you Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for providing this ARC to review. ~I was given this book and made no commitments to leave my opinions, favorable or otherwise. ~

I love how well Davidson manages to mix fun and heartfelt moments with some of the darkest subplots possible in a manner that doesn't take away from the romance and the wonderful feels her characters engender. It's an artform that not many authors can manage, but she is the master.
I loved Magnus ever since he was the enigmatic bear that popped up in a previous volume and this book just confirms that he's a giant teddy bear of a man. Verity took some getting used to because she's a bit caustic as a defense mechanism for being a were who can't shift, but she's the perfect mate for Magnus, and seeing them clash and come together was a treat.
I particularly like this book because it's a continuation of the love stories set up in the previous two volumes with the wedding of Annette and David. We also get to check in on the kids from previous books and it's great feelings and growth all around. But this might also be why I don't think this could be a book that new readers can jump in without knowledge from the previous ones. It would still be enjoyable because it's a fun story despite the darker undertones, I just don't think it would be as great.
Overall, it's a fun and exciting adventure that has some hilarious hijinks to offset the darkness of the murders at its core.

Very happy thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the phenomenal read!

If there’s one thing that MaryJanice Davidson always delivers on, it’s the humor. It’s been a while since I’ve read one of her stories, but she’s going back on my always read list!

Verity is a “squib” or a shifter who can’t shift, and other shifters tend to believe that squibs are a lower class. So, when Verity is offered the opportunity to join a squib club that’s about proving you’re adventurous shifter spirit she does.

Magnus is a thirty-four year old soul who’s been through some …stuff. He’s in the US to spend time with his goddaughter, spending time alone on his island, figuring out how to make friends, and wondering who keeps dumping naked mannequins in his garden.

When one of the mannequins is NOT a mannequin, but Verity completing a dare, Magnus is intrigued. So is Verity.

The inner monologues are just as amusing as their conversations to each other as these two lonely souls try to figure each other out, give in to their feelings, and try to figure out what the hell is happening to the squibs in the club. The supporting cast is equally fun and interesting making for an overall delightful read!
