In the first book in the Adventures in Fosterland series, readers are introduced to foster kittens Emmett and Jez. Except that Emmett is a tiny pink piglet, not a kitten. After tumbling from a truck and being separated from his family, Emmett is found on the side of the road by “a giant” who takes him to Fosterland. [Spoiler alert, the “giant” is Hannah Shaw (a.k.a. Kitten Lady).] Once in this new and magical place, Emmett meets Jez, a 3-legged tabby kitten about his size. Jez shows him the ropes of what it means to be a foster kitten and they play and snooze and get into all kinds of mischief. But what happens when it’s time for Emmett and Jez to go to Foreverland? They’re best friends and want to stay together forever! As both of them grow, they realize that they are very different and have their own dreams of what Foreverland will entail. So they are happy for each other when they get to go to the new homes of their dreams. This is such a cute story, with a heartwarming ending.

The story is based on the real-life friendship of Emmett and Jez while they were under Kitten Lady’s care. There are even photos of them on the back cover! As a longtime follower of Kitten Lady, I was very excited that she has started this very sweet fictionalized version of her rescue work. She does amazing things for kittens (and piglets and puppies!) in need and reading these cute stories of her former fosters is an absolute joy.
