When Dodge Kingston received the call that his Dad had been in a plane crash, he went home. He was not sure why, he had not been home since he left 10 years ago, for good reason, but here he was, pacing the hallway. Ten years is a long time to stay away from his hometown but he felt he had no choice. Echo Yazzie, his girlfriend at the time, had said "no" when he proposed and then his brother Colt took advantage of the situation and swooped in to "console" ( yes she did say no to Dodge) Echo and get a kiss. Dodge was so upset, that he put Colt in the hospital and his Dad left him in jail for a week. When he was released Dodge went and signed up with the military.
Echo Yazzie was in town looking for her Dad and while she was looking she could have sworn she saw Dodge Kingston, the man her heart never forgot. She had turned down his proposal 10 years ago and every once in a while she still wonders how her life would be different if she had said, "yes'. But he had not been back since then. She knew his Dad had been in the plane crash but she would have heard if Dodge was back.
While Echo and her friend Peyton are in the bush checking cameras that Peyton had set up for watching the wolves she is studying, Echo had tied her dog sled team outside. When the dogs started barking they became increasingly agitated and Echo went outside to check, then she saw it, a bear. One of her dogs ( Holly)had been attacked by it and Echo grabbed up Holly( the dog) and took her inside and the bear wandered off. Peyton put in a call for a rescue, when rescue arrived Echo was very surprised when it was Dodge that hopped out. She was right. Echo had seen him in town. And he looked good.
Faith, family, love and redemption.
This was such a good story and I eagerly await the next one in the series. Thank you Susan May Warren for allowing me to participate!

Teenage love turns into adult love after a ten year gap and some hardships, in “Sunrise”, by Susan May Warren (Revell), a story about forgiveness, redemption and letting go of hurt and resentment.
The first in a new series (Sky King Ranch), “Sunrise” presents intense, tortured characters fighting and trying to find themselves and dealing with conflicting emotions in the marvelous, majestic setting of Alaska.
Dodge and Echo were so good together, both as adolescents and adults and as best friends and lovers. The pain and longing between these two are as palpable as are the friendship and their deep, solid connection.
I liked the intense characters and their caring nature, too; Dodge’s protectiveness and fierceness and Echo’s independence and self-reliance are very attractive.
I felt Dodge nursing the wound for 10 years was a bit too much, and his resentment somehow artificially expanded.
Some aspects of Echo and Effie’s separation were also a bit hard for me to understand.
Alaska’s “stark beauty” and the cast of secondary characters in “Sunrise” show lots of promise for future stories in this new series.

I read Sunrise by Susan May Warren and Life Flight by Lynette Eason back to back, not realizing that both books featured pilots—though the male character is the aviator in Sunrise, and the female in Life Flight. Susan May Warren and Lynette Eason are by far some of my favorite authors of the romantic suspense genre, and Sunrise does not disappoint. It’s the fourth Warren book I have read, and it is just as satisfying as the others—if not more so. Sunrise is Susan May Warren at her best.

What I love about Warren is how beautifully she incorporates Christian messages into her novels. In some books, the authors beat their readers over the head with biblical principles and sermons. Not so with Warren. The message of God’s affection and understanding is prevalent throughout Sunrise. It’s not often a book will make me smile as I read it. I usually just smile—or roll my eyes at—corny sweetness, depending on how well it is portrayed. It is rare that my lips will curl upward at anything else. But Sunrise by Susan May Warren filled my heart with warmth, a rekindled appreciation for everything God’s done…and what He will do.

Both Dodge and Echo face inexplicable challenges of their characters and their faiths. Dodge does not want to return to his ranch full-time. It’s temporary, and he doesn’t want much to do with Echo, who broke his heart. But when Echo’s life is in jeopardy, nothing will stop him from rescuing her. Echo thinks she can manage things on her own, when it comes to locating a missing friend in the woods. But in classic Warren style, that isn’t enough. She adds manmade elements to the natural dangers of Alaska, all in Warren’s flawless prose.

Sunrise by Susan May Warren never stops. From one page to the next, it keeps readers on the edges of their seats. The descriptions paint colorful pictures of the Alaskan landscape, and the characters are deep and relatable. They are complex, both running from different elements of their pasts that seem to be chasing them. But God’s plan prevails, and that is the message Warren emphasizes repeatedly—and wonderfully—throughout the novel. I loved everything about this book and would change nothing about it. Sunrise by Susan May Warren is a spectacular start to a series—and I can’t wait to read the rest of the novels.

Sunrise is book one of the Sky King Ranch Series by Susan May Warren. If you like action packed books with romance, rescues and suspense, you will love this book. Susan’s description of Alaska makes you want to visit…without the grizzly bears!
Dodge Kingston is a triplet, who left his home at Sky King Ranch ten years ago after a bad fight with one of his brothers and went off to be a pararescuer jumper. When Dodge receives news that his father was injured in a plane crash and that he needed him, he returned home a bitter man.
Echo Yazzie is a hardworking dogsledder and rescue guide who loves her Alaskan home. She is also a faithful daughter who has stayed by her dad’s side, helping him in every way she can, while letting go of some of her own dreams. Echo’s job is not easy, and she finds herself in need of being rescued more than once. Echo is fearless and not afraid to risk her life to save others, even when she knows the dangers all around her. Echo loves Dodge with all her heart, even when she pushed him away years ago.
Dodge has not been in town long when he runs into Echo, his childhood sweetheart, his best friend and the woman he proposed marriage to at a young age. Echo said no and broke his heart. Did I mention that the fight Dodge had with his brother was because of Echo, the girl he always loved?
Sunrise is a very good book that left me wanting more and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series to see how God will bring Dodge’s brothers back to Sky King Ranch.

Alaskan bush country, grizzly bears, and a generous dose of heartbreak for everyone - Sunrise is an emotional read! But so sweet and endearing.

The characters are honest and relatable, the country harsh and beautiful, and the story so raw and real. This is a book you're going to want to read again and again!

A huge thanks to NetGalley and Revell for allowing me to read an advance e-copy in exchange for an honest review!

"Sunrise" is a Christian romantic suspense. Dodge proposed marriage to his best friend and love, Echo, and she immediately said no...and soon after choose to kiss his brother. He left for ten years, feeling betrayed and rejected by family as well as the woman he loved. Unknown to him, Echo only said no because she was afraid. Her own mother left her and her father behind to live her dreams even though she claimed she loved them. What if love isn't enough and the same happened in marriage for Echo? Dodge and Echo had to work through forgiving family and each other.

Dodge was an excellent pilot who basically did search-and-rescue while also holding down his father's air mail routine until he recovered from an accident. Echo also went out doing search and rescue when a rogue bear started causing trouble and a friend went out of contact while checking her wildlife cameras. Worse, some poachers were in the same area and didn't want any witnesses to their illegal deeds. Between storms, missing people, medical emergencies, and attacks, the suspense stayed high throughout the story. The characters were complex, realistic people, and I cared about what happened to them.

Dodge and Echo learned to trust God with the future and that forgiveness brings freedom. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this suspenseful novel.

Susan May Warren is an author who never disappoints. And this new series is no exception.
The Sky King Ranch and the Alaskan lifestyle make this a fascinating read. And the suspense is top notch too. Susan always has strong women in her stories but I think Echo Yazzie may be one of her very strongest. Living in Alaska is no easy life and Echo is no average woman. And Dodge is one of the most selfless of her heroes. This is a second chance romance with plenty of action and family. I am already fascinated with these characters so am anxiously awaiting the rest of this series.
The one thing I have always admired about Susan's books is that she includes wonderful lessons in faith without being preachy. And I always find myself writing down quotes from her books so that I may go back to them.
I recommend this book highly.
Thank you to Net Galley for allowing me to real this book. The opinions are entirely my own.

Sunrise
by Susan May Warren
Book 1 in the Sky King Ranch series
Rating: 4.5/5

As a huge fan of SMW, I was excited to start reading the first book in her new series! But first, can we talk about that amazing cover? It's absolutely gorgeous and I need to visit Alaska some day. As for this new series, the setting is beautiful and I already love all the quirky characters. The details seem to have been thoroughly researched regarding dogsledding and piloting small aircraft. I definitely read this story quickly since it held my attention till the end.

"She was the only woman he would ever love. And she’d taken that from him, leaving only darkness behind."

Dodge Kingston and Echo Yazzie were a such fun couple to get to know and root for. Their story had so many layers and so much history. Dodge's relationships with his father and brothers was a focal point because I believe the other books are about the other two brothers. His sister was also a fun character to encounter. I found their chemistry to be believable and loved their development. Like she always does, the author wove a beautiful story about faith and love and forgiveness into the characters' journey.

"Echo was softness and home and everything he’d longed for since the day he’d stupidly walked away from her."

Highly recommend if you enjoy adrenaline-pumping adventure with swoonworthy heroes and daring suspense over an Alaskan sky.

My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

The wilds of Alaska is brought to life in the first book of a new series by Susan May Warren. After ten years of trying to forget about each other, Dodge Kingston and Echo Yazzie are thrown together to search for Echo’s missing co-worker caught in an Alaskan spring blizzard. There’s a lot of angst dealing with family secrets a decade old. Trust is hard to come by as well as forgiveness. This book is full of suspense, mystery, romance, and promises filled with hope and second chances. I highly recommend this book and look forward to the next in the series!
My thanks to Revell Publishing and Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I didn't know what this book was about before starting it. I just knew it was the new one from Susan May Warren and I had to read it. She's one of my favorite authors and rarely ever disappoints.

Sunrise was excellent. A five star read, for sure. I was instantly pulled in and became hopelessly invested in the characters' lives. I couldn't read it fast enough, and yet, I tried to take my time with it, to spend as much time in this world and with these characters as possible.

It's the first book in the Sky King Ranch series and is set in Alaska. The descriptions really transported me. Everything was so vivid, it was like I was actually there. I love when an author can do that.

The spiritual message was great. It brought tears to my eyes. It was something I didn't know I needed to hear, but I was so moved by it.

I can't recommend this book highly enough. The characters were great, the pace was fast, and the setting was breathtaking. The sequel can't come out soon enough.

I received an advanced copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my honest opinion.

I do so love it when my favourite authors are consistent in their writing. And Susan May Warren has to be one of the most consistent at writing amazing, thrilling, romantic novels. I know when I open a SMW novel that I can sit back, relax (or tense up, because let’s face it, those characters are about to be tested to their very limits) and just enjoy.

Another new book from another new series by Susan May Warren and she brings all her excellent storytelling, epic plots and relatable characters. Plus that romance we know and love.

Dodge Kingston left Alaska after his heart was broken and his actions broke his family. Now he’s back. Under duress. His father has been in a plane accident and Dodge has to return to hold the family business together. What once was his dream now seems to taunt him. Especially when he runs into Echo Yazzie. The girl who broke his heart. Echo still lives in Alaska with her dad, trying to keep him from getting thrown in jail or worse in his drive to protect the local wildlife. When one of Echo’s friends goes missing, along with Echo’s dog team, Echo sets out to search for them. But she’ll need Dodge’s help and this time, they might be facing more dangers than just the blizzards, rogue grizzly and tension between them.

Sunrise is full of thrills, spills and chills. The rugged wilderness of Alaska make the perfect backdrop for this story. Dodge is a pilot, ex-military and full of regrets. Echo, despite working as a guide in one of the harshest places on the planet, plays it safe. She lives with her father and a whole lot of what-ifs. What if she never gave up on what she once had with Dodge? What if she never broke his heart? What if she finally one day ran the Iditarod? What if her mother had never left them? Both characters and hurting and it’s the perfect time for them to revisit their past and their relationship.

As always, the secondary characters are integral to the story. Both Echo and Dodge’s fathers are complex guys who bring drama and great strength and wisdom to the story. We have a few appearances from characters from Warren’s previous books. And there is a lot more to uncover about Dodge’s brothers, who, if the last part of the book is any indication, will feature in the next book in this series. I’m looking forward to continuing this romance and adventure-filled series.

The publishers provided an advanced readers copy of this book for reviewing purposes. All opinions are my own.

Sunrise by Susan May Warren continued her reputation for excellent writing with another book full of adventure, intrigue, and excellent characters. I especially enjoyed the backdrop of Sunrise as it brought the readers to the frigid beauty that is Alaska. This is the first in Ms. Warren's new Sky King Ranch series. I am excited to read the rest of this excellent series! Ms. Warren never fails to bring tales of adventure and life lessons to her readers, and Sunrise is not an exception.
I think that there is something intriguing and mysterious about the more rugged and less familiar Alaskan life. Dodge Kingston embodies the strength and roughness of Alaska; however, he is less than thrilled to be stuck back in his hometown of Cooper Mountain at his family's Sky King Ranch. Dodge hasn't been in contact with his family much in the last ten years. He left for the military to become a pararescue jumper without resolving some issues between himself and one of his triplet brothers. He also left behind the woman he planned to spend the rest of his life with: Echo Yazzie.
Echo Yazzie loves the beauty of the Alaskan wildlife and enjoys capturing some of that beauty in her pictures and work as a research guide for the DNR. Echo had always planned on leaving her small mountain town and going on to grander things, yet due to unforeseen circumstances ends up sticking around the homestead and watching out for her dad. When Echo's friend goes missing in the wilderness, Echo is determined to find her. Using her dogsled team as her mode of transportation, Echo starts off to rescue her missing friend, facing a dangerous blizzard, an angry grizzly bear, not to mention the other dangerous characters lurking in the Alaskan wilderness. Can she find her friend in time? Will she survive the blizzard and dangers? Will Dodge be able to find Echo to help her return home?
I enjoyed how quickly Ms. Warren brought her readers to understand the deep past that the main characters shared without loosing them in the flashbacks. I appreciated the fast paced plot and constantly changing twists, as well as the striking descriptiveness which gave the readers chills, both from the cold Alaskan frontier, as well as from the danger faced by the main characters. Overall, this was a very well-written book, full of strong characters, unique situations and complexities, and enough adventure and heartbreak to entertain any reader. I hope you have the opportunity to read and enjoy Sunrise. Happy reading!

Dodge Kingston is a bush pilot who is returning to Alaska to help his father after his military service. His former girlfriend is Echo Yazzie who is a dog sledding expert in the area. They team up again to solve some situations that are occurring in the bush and find each other again and reestablish relationships from the past. This story is action packed and since it is first in the series I am guessing the other two books in the series will be about Dodge's two brothers. They were triplets and all went into different branches of the military. I love stories about the Alaskan wilderness and also love stories about military heroes so this book has double appeal for me.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Susan May Warren is the very best when it comes to romantic adventures, so I was thrilled with the new Sky King series releasing.
Sunrise is a classic second chance romance. Two teenagers, Dodge Kingston and Echo Yazzie, have loved each other since childhood, but when hormones, anger, rejection and miscommunication get way out of control, it'll take ten years for Dodge to return to Alaska.

The stunning Alaskan scenery and its wildlife come alive in Sunrise, although it's a land full of harsh elements and hardship. The characters are so relatable and realistic I felt I knew each one and understood their motivation. Warren fans who've read her previous Montana Marshalls series might catch a few character tie-ins and also pick up on the Russian element from that series. I'm excited to see how that thread plays out in future books.

One of the things I love about Warren is her talent for memorable quotes, I've highlighted many in this book but here's three of my favorites,
*On the beauty of Alaska~ "...he stood to watch the glory for a moment, the stripping of the darkness to reveal the scars, the crevasses, the dangers, but also the stark beauty of a land that endured. Survived. Thrived with the sunrise."
*On love~ "...love doesn't stop just because you run. Love keeps reaching out. Keeps believing, even when it feels impossible."
*On God, "We live our life seeing only our perspective-seeing our circumstances and judging God by what happens to us. But what of we judged God by what didn't happen to us? What if we started asking...God, what is your view? What did you protect me from?"

Sunrise was an entertaining and enjoyable, albeit hair-raising, story. I recommend it to readers of nature adventures, romance and happy endings. I'm looking forward to Ranger Kingston's story, Sunburst in June of 2022. I appreciate Revell, through Netgalley, making a copy of Sunrise available for review. All thoughts and opinions are my very own.

I love the way Susan May Warren immerses her readers in her settings. I've never been to Alaska and know very little about it, but it was fascinating to learn about the life and culture. Susan writes deep POV so well, making the characters with all their challenges and growth feel personal.
I haven't read the author's other books set in Alaska so now I want to read them as I assume most of the secondary characters here have had their own books, per usual for her. You don't need to have read them first, it just makes you intrigued to know their stories. :)
I was kept turning pages, more for the romance than the suspense. From the very first page I was hooked, and from the first scene that the hero and heroine shared the page, I felt the fireworks between them.
I just really liked this book, from the characters to the way the story unfolded to the secondary characters (Dodge's dad!!) to the descriptions to the message.

I received a copy of Sunrise from the publisher through Netgalley, but I was not required to leave a positive review and all opinions are my own.

Susan May Warren is one of my top must read authors, and I always know that her books are going to take me on some type of an adventure... Sunrise was certainly no exception.

Now, I must admit that this one did take me a little bit longer to get into than some of her other books. I'm far from an outdoorsy person and some of the talk of Alaskan homesteading went just a little over my head... But while I couldn't imagine going on these adventures on my own, she sure does make them enjoyable to read about. Once I got into the story, I couldn't put it down. Sure, there may have been some more technical aspects that I didn't quite understand or relate to but I enjoyed the story despite it, and always enjoy how thorough and believable Susan's stories are. You certainly get the impression that she knows what she's talking about and that definitely gives the story an authenticity that I appreciate. I enjoyed the relationship between Echo and Dodge, blended wonderfully with action, suspense and messages of faith and forgiveness to create one wonderful story. This book did end on a bit of a surprising cliff hanger, leaving me even more excited to see what the rest of the series will bring. I am glad to see that we haven't seen the last of Echo and Dodge and will be rather impatiently waiting to see what comes next.

**I received a complimentary copy for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

This book will teach you a lot about living in Alaska. The research is fantastic. Has the author lived there? The story line moved along at a good pace. The characters were well developed and likable. I understand this is the first of a series, but I didn't like the cliff hanger. When the book ended, I thought maybe I didn't download it all. Some authors who write series resolve some of the problems that are presented without it being such a cliff hanger. When a book ends so abruptly, I really don't want to read anymore.

I received an ARC from netgalley.com for an honest review.
