When I finished this one, I immediately thought it should be a movie. This is a fast and rollicking read that is an Indiana Jones or National Treasure-style jaunt through history. It is fun and fast-paced, and it has just enough historical detail to make it interesting and maybe a little educational.

Great read, with Da Vinci Code style action, where each chapter is a cliffhanger. Keeps you engaged throughout and places the reader squarely among some of the most notable scenes in Boston!

This is a good adventure with the feeling of National Treasure. The timeline is extremely short and unrealistic but it doesn't take away from the fun. Mix in some history (whether or not accurate) and I was hooked.

The Midnight Ride issues an intriguing invite. However, the story is hard to follow, especially in the beginning. Then comes the end with a cliffhanger instead of answers. This plot has fascinating pieces, but the story misses its mark.

The Midnight Ride is the first book I've read from Ben Mezrich.

"Hailey finds a hotel room to hide in while she's running from Casino security. But there's a dead guy in it. Nick was supposed to meet the guy about fencing some stolen paintings - the ones from the Gardner Museum robbery many years ago. They both flee and head to where the paintings are being kept. The guards are dead and the paintings are dead but they gain possession of the finial from Napoleon's flag. Something on the finial sends them across Boston looking for clues left behind by Paul Revere. Can they stay ahead of the bad guys and the police?"

This book is National Treasure meets Dan Brown. There are prominent figures and places in American history and some early America cryptography. The book is relatively fast-paced. If you like those elements you will probably like this book. If you watch the documentary on the Gardner Museum Art Heist, you will have a greater appreciation for that part of the story.

One part I didn't like - there's a cliffhanger. I'm not a fan. I prefer books to have endings. So be aware of that.

The concept is fantastic, the execution is wanting. I read as an ARC so I can only hope that they were not done editing. Character development was weak and I hope this is a series, otherwise....

The beginning of this book jumps around some but as you get into the story it flows much better. The characters are chasing an artifact connected to Paul Revere. The book is set in Boston. I found the plot a little far fetched but the book is entertaining enough that it held my interest. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

I've been a big fan of Ben Mezrich since I read The Accidental Billionaires several years back. I honestly had no idea he also wrote fiction and was beyond excited to see The Midnight Ride. I grew up outside of Boston and always love when thillers are set there. I love being able to picture exactly where the book is taking place.

The first few chapters of The Midnight Ride were a bit all over the place as the characters were introduced and the general plot started to unfold. It didn't take long for everything to come together and turn into a wild ride. The book reminded me quite a bit of The Da Vinci Code and The Lost Symbol, only set in Boston. It was a ton of fun to read and I loved Hailey's character. Even better, the ending definitely left it open for a series. Fingers crossed!

4/5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Grand Central Publishing for the digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Creative plot but this is nothing more than an underhand toss to Hollywood, hoping it gets optioned. Fun screenplay, as it were, but a mediocre book.
