4.5 rounded up to 5...

I am not gonna say what book this is similar too. I think it’s so similar that to tell you which book it is will do you a dis service. But it is similar to a really well known and loved thriller that a lot of people say is their favorite. If you want to know which one, check out some other reviews or dm me. I recommend going into blind and if you are an audio lover give it a listen! The narrator did such an awesome job on this one I was able to finish it in one day. She definitely had me listening to every word and she easily kept my attention. This book translated very well to audio and was super easy to follow.

I definitely recommend to thriller lovers!

Thanks to @netgalley @dreamscape_media for my copy!

Unfortunately, once again, there are two books with the same title that hit the bookshelves within a relatively close time span. I’m not sure how that happens, but I feel that it is unfortunate because it can be confusing for the readers when they hear about one of them. I read the one by Rachel Hawkins and reviewed it previously. The author of this one is a brain surgeon, and she said she was inspired by Jane Eyre, but rather than madness, gave the wife a brain injury where she couldn’t speak. At first I felt the story was rather predictable but found there to be more twists by the end. Some reviews I’ve read said this book seems very close to another one written, but that one was published after this one. Jane Eyre must just be a good inspiration for authors. I enjoyed this book of psychological suspense and will try another one of hers in the future.

What an amazingly twisted, keep you on your toes book! I listened to the audio and I never wanted to stop listening until the end.

A very remote house. Sylvia, the new hire. Victoria, the woman who endured a tragic accident. A diary. And so many questions have the reader wanting more and second guessing everything!

If you have read and enjoyed Verity by Coleen Hoover then you NEED to grab this book! We get past and present POV’s from the two main women. Each of their stories lines were so captivating.

I would definitely recommend this book to my fellow thriller lovers. And if you are a new or potential thriller fan this is a great one to dive into! The narrator did an amazing job if you are considering listening to the audio!

A huge thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the audio ARC in exchange for my honest review!

This was my first read by Freida McFadden but certainly will not be my last. I loved this from beginning to end. I haven't listened to many thrillers lately that really got under my skin and made me feel alive about books again the way this one did. It really had everything I love in a good thriller. After reading the other reviews, I do see many similarities to Verity, but I loved Verity and didn't even realize that until after I had read it so I didn't mind one bit. In my opinion they're quite different in the way they are unraveled. I thought this was really well done in every aspect and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The characters were dynamic and relatable. The audiobook narration was very enjoyable. I would absolutely recommend this one to any lover of thrillers. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was my first book read by this author but it will not be my last! The narrator did a terrific job making the characters unique. I thought this was very similar to Gone Girl and I assumed I knew how the twist would play out.

It kept me eagerly waiting to find out if my suspicions were correct and they were confirmed, yet then they got blown to smithereens again and then again!!

That’s how you end a great psychological thriller! Brilliant!

I really enjoyed this very twisted and addicting story and kudos to the narrator, Angie Kane who did an excellent job and had me looking forward to getting back to the audiobook every chance I a could get.

Wow! This was definitely a read that I couldn't wait to find out what happened next.
I was intrigued by both women's stories that we were thrust into and it flowed very easily back and forth between the two women.
I loved the life the narrator breathed into the audiobook. She did an excellent job at setting the tones.
The author did a great job at making you question what you believed right with the main character.
However, there were several times some dumb choices were made by the characters and the ending wrapped up a little too neatly and too quickly in my opinion. It was still very much an enjoyable read.

Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the advanced ARC.

The Wife Upstairs
By Freida McFadden
Narrated by Angie Kane
Book Rating - 5 out of 5 stars
Narration Rating - 5 out of 5 stars

Freida McFadden has another hit on her hands with this new book! Starting out the book is a woman, Slyvia, looking for a job and having no luck. That is until she meets the wildly handsome, Adam. Adam needs to hire someone to take care of his wife, Victoria. After meeting Slyvia he knows she would be the prefect fit for the job. Slyvia gladly accepts the job and promptly moves in with Adam and Victoria but the house is hiding some terrible secrets.

Victoria can barely speak after a fall down the stairs at the house and a traumatic brain injury. She is however able to communicate with Sylvia and as the story goes on they start to become friends and Sylvia (with Victoria’s permission) finds Victoria’s journal and starts to read it. Things seem to become clear but are they?

The narrator Angie Kane does an excellent job reading this book. I especially liked how she changed voices during the journal reading and when Victoria is talking after her brain injury.

This book will be great for fans of Verity and books similar to that. There is one plot twist after another that keeps you guessing until the very end. Even when you think the book is basically over.

Sylvia has been hired to be a companion for Victoria. It is a job she just can’t pass up. It comes with housing and a good deal of money. And well, Sylvia is broke! When Sylvia arrives and the estate, she realizes she is officially isolated and the place just has a creepy feel. But, she befriends Victoria and Sylvia settles in. But, it is not to last! Things start to change after she starts to read Victoria’s diary!

Well! Life in this household is not what anyone would expect. Victoria has a brain injury from a fall down the stairs. Her husband, Adam, has decided to take care of her at home instead of putting her in a nursing home. This just endears him to everyone, including Sylvia. Plus, Adam is hot and very nice. But as Sylvia starts to discover, nothing is as it seems!

This story started out fabulously but then it tended to get a little predictable, probably because this plot has been used in several novels before. But, the narrator, Angie Kane, did an such an excellent job with all the drama that she completely kept me pulled into the story. Plus..her interpretation of the voice of Victoria….fantastic! That was tough to master!

Need a good, twisted novel…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today.

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.

I thought the narrator did a fantastic job.! Hats off to her! Both
she and the story hooked me in from the very beginning. I also wanted to yell at every woman
in this book and at the author for writing women to be so ridiculous.
This book was entertaining and kept me engaged until the end. The very last
section brought it down for me. Many will like how it ended, I wanted a more “thrilling” ending

This book was brilliantly written! Just when you think you have the book figured out there is another twist and it has you thinking again. I liked how the opening of the book is tied into the closing of the book. This book get you thinking about what really goes on behind closed doors within homes.

I've read quite a bit of bad reviews about this book, due to the similarity to Verity. I absolutely LOVED Verity, so i had high hopes for this one. Definitely was NOT disappointed!! I've already downloaded another of this authors audiobooks on Scribd....I just wish i could find ebooks, so i could read with my eyeballs, too.

The Wife Upstairs by Freida McFadden had its ups and downs for me. There were parts where I almost gave up and then I found myself totally invested again. Parts of the plot had been done before and maybe that was why it fell short at times. Overall though, there was something in the plot that kept me wanting to listen to the very end. This was the first book that I have read by Freida McFadden. I might try another of her books at some time. Angie Kane did a very good job narrating this audiobook.

Victoria Barnett was a well respected and well liked nurse practitioner at a major hospital in New York City when a very handsome and charismatic man came to the ER on her shift. His name was Adam and Victoria suddenly realized that he was a famous author. Victoria could not keep her eyes off of him. Adam had been attempting to cook when he accidentally cut his finger and was in the need of stitches. Victoria was more than willing to comply and administer the stitches. Both Victoria and Adam felt an instant connection and attraction to each other..Their romance was a whirlwind. It was fast and furious. Victoria was so caught up in it. Throughout their relationship, though, there were so many red flags that Victoria chose to either ignore or she found excuses for them. I felt like I wanted to shake her and tell her to wake up and see what was right under her nose. Despite everything, Adam and Victoria married, and moved into a large home in a remote part of Long Island. Then Victoria had a horrific accident. She fell down the long staircase in their new home. Victoria suffered a major brain injury as a result. She was confined to a wheel chair and had to have a feeding tube. Victoria required constant care.

Sylvia Robinson was not in a very good place in her life. She had lost her job and was in dire need of money to pay her rent and buy food. She was on her way to a job interview when she stopped to get some coffee and noticed a woman choking. Sylvia tried to help the woman but it backfired in her face. The woman accused Sylvia of trying to harm her. Adam happened to have been a customer at the restaurant when all this was happening and came to Sylvia’s rescue. He claimed to have witnessed the entire thing and defended Sylvia’s actions. Adam and Sylvia ended up having coffee. After Sylvia admitted that she was supposed to have been on her way to a job interview but was no longer presentable to go to it, Adam offered Sylvia a job as a companion to his invalid wife, Victoria. Sylvia could not let this opportunity slip through her fingers. Adam was paying her more money than she ever thought possible. Of course Sylvia accepted the position. Sylvia soon discovered that things between Adam and Victoria did not add up. The house did not feel right. It gave her the creeps. Sylvia found Adam to be so attractive though. He was so devoted to Victoria or was he? Then Victoria got Sylvia to read her diary. Would Sylvia be able to discover the truth?

I did enjoy parts of this audiobook. Other parts were either obvious, far fetched or frustrating. It did keep my attention enough that I listened to the entire thing. I did not like Victoria’s character. I found her to be gullible and way too trusting and unable to make decisions when she needed to. For a smart woman she missed so many warning signs. Adam’s character made me cringe. He was every woman’s worst nightmare.

#thewifeupstairs was a fantastic story with lots of twists and turns. It was a fun listen, thanks to #angiekane. She did a great job narrating. Every time I thought I had it all figured out another twist would happen. Had me guessing throughout the whole story. I’m still thinking about this one a couple weeks after finishing it. This was my first book from #FreidaMcfadden and I enjoyed it and can’t wait for my next read from her. A big thanks to #netgalley and #Dreamscapepublishing for giving me this opportunity. I will definitely be telling my family and friends about this one.

This is most definitely a book that could be a trigger for some readers. It contains spousal and mental abuse. I was just in such shock while reading this story.

Sylvia is hired to provide round-the-clock care for Victoria. She moves into the home and eventually, she and Adam, Victoria's husband begin an affair. Victoria is unable to speak clearly yet she is trying desperately to tell Sylvia something. After finding Victoria's diary in a drawer, Sylvia cannot believe what she reads.

Such a crazy ride!!

Review of The Wife Upstairs by Freida McFadden.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Okay. So at first I was thinking this was a total copy of Verity. And yes, there are a lot of similarities but there are also many differences. And I really ended up enjoying this one a lot. It takes you on a ride until literally the last page with so many twists. I heard about it from @lexyattemptedmystery when she reviewed it and said the author is a brain injury physician which is what my husband does so I was immediately requested it. I listened to it and enjoyed the narrator.

Quick synopsis: Sylvia is down on her luck and looking for a job when she by chance meets Adam. He is looking for someone to help care for his wife, Victoria, who suffers from a brain injury she got in an accident. At first Sylvia is extremely reluctant but she eventually accepts the job. Their house is located in a very remote area of Montauk. Sylvia settles in and Victoria is able to give her her diary to read. Sylvia becomes engrossed in reading the diary which is the story of how Victoria and Adam met and how their relationship went, written in mind to give to her future children. While the diary paints Adam in a less than flattering light, Sylvia starts falling for Adam. Soon she has no idea what the truth really is.

This one is fast paced and really a fantastic read. Highly recommend but keep in mind it is similar to Verity.

Big thank you to @netgalley and @dreamscapemedia for the chance to read this one.
