This was a nice second chance romance. The author, Evelyn Jordan, added an good amount of family drama to round out the plot. I listened to the audiobook and the narration was very well done.

Return to Sweetheart Lake is the tale of Romey, a pie shop owner with an infant, and Gray, Romey's brother's best friend. For years, they carried on a friends-with-benefits relationship with each one afraid to tell the other how they feel, leaving an accumulation of misunderstanding and hurt.

The audio narration was good, but it was implied to be both a DC suburb and a Southern city so the accent situation was a bit confusing.

This was a wonderful second chance, opposites attract story. Gray is a doctor who fled to work with Doctors Without Borders after the death of his best friend, Charlie, and was gone much longer than expected after being held prisoner in Syria but now has come back to town. Romy, Charlie's sister, was the girl who Gray left behind. She is now also back in town and has opened a bakery that specializes in pies but doesn't plan to give Gray the time of day even though she is keeping a secret from him. Too bad, when these two get together there is so much chemistry it is palpable. Will they be able to overcome all the obstacles in their way and find the trust it takes to build a life together? I really enjoyed this one. A little long but the narration made it great.

It was drawn out a little bit for my taste but all in all it was a sweet second chance romance story set in a small town.

Gray is a doctor from a wealthy family. While on assignment with Doctors Without Borders he is captured and kept a political prisoner for months. Romey is from a working class family. In fact, her family worked for Gray's family. An award winning pastry chef in her own right, she opens her own pie shop. Since they were teenagers Romey and Gray could not stay away from each other. For years they have kept their romance a secret for multiple reasons. But love conquers all. Excellent narration by Will Damron and Robin Eller. The book is long but easy listening.

In my very casual, unprofessional book log, I described this book as being a way too-long tale of a medical doctor and the pregnant hometown pie baker he inadvertently left behind when running away to do good and escape family complications. Sweetheart Lake is the small, Virginia hometown of both Dr. Gray Norton and Romey Michaels. Romey's pie shop, the Crusty Petal, is almost a secondary character in this sweet romance that encompasses numerous secondary character and story-lines. The audio narration was good, and all in all, the story is a good one that I believe many, many readers and listeners will enjoy. I personally thought it could be cut almost in half; the conflicts that prolonged the story were not that complex that they couldn't have been resolved well in a shorter format. 3,5 stars that I'll round up to 4.

A good second chance/secret baby story. The trust is you can always go home in the end. I liked the narrations.
