I really love Nikola Tesla and his inventions are out of this world. Thus Tesla Note piqued my interest of course! Botan is a high school girl with awesome abilities, since she has been trained since her childhood to become an agent at one point. The agency is after Tesla Shards that are crystals which can bend time and space. Thus weird things are happening and people dying when fast vehicles warp our world and people die due to it. The agency's aim is to collect the shards and prevent the future Tesla was afraid of, since he wanted to use them for bettering the future. So, the premise is interesting, but the creators don't explain anything well. This story line needs more groundwork instead of jumping right into action and humor with the main characters. Not many know about Tesla, so the whole thing is mostly just confusing.

The art is nice and the characters actually have facial expressions. I also liked the bickering between the characters, since you can actually tell how they feel by looking at them. The movements look good and all in all the manga is packed with action also art-wise. But, still. All this would've needed more explaining and describing, the whole setting basically. This is the biggest downfall. Everything else works quite well.

A teenage ninja, a secret organization and a science-based plot device. Okay, attention grabbed. This series is by the same writer of Tiger & Bunny, and it shares some basic DNA. It's got episodic adventures with potential for character growth, partner dynamics, and the arts style is reminiscent of Tiger & Bunny as well. If you liked the super show, you'll want to give this more science inspired story a look! If you haven't heard of Tiger & Bunny, still give it a look! It's a fun, silly romp.

If only this title was available as a physical copy. A young seventeen year old girl joins a group of spies in order to recover Nicola Tesla's inventions. If the crystals fall into the wrong hands, chaos will break loose. Botan, a young female ninja, teams up with Kuruma to hunt down the crystals before they cause some serious damage. Unfortunately, they're not the only group looking for Tesla's treasures.
Full of action-packed sequences and some horror filled scenes that would make anyone squeamish, this fun little spy manga will keep you guessing. I enjoy the humor and bickering between the two main characters as they learn to work together as a team.

So first off, I was not completely sure if I was going to like this one but I ended up enjoying it and will be reading this one further as more volumes release. I really enjoyed how the facial expressions were drawn and Botan's interactions with her partner. I'm hoping moving forward we get to know more about Botan's team as their mission continues.

The first volume basically is laying the ground work for the teams mission project T. We are introduced to Botan who was raised to be a ninja and the day finally comes when she becomes a spy and joins a team to track down Tesla's crystals.

As I started to read this manga I was a little bit confused. I think that this is the first manga that I've read with this kind of drawing's technique, (it's all drawn, even the background, I don't know how to explain it in english but usually the background is white, here no) it confuse me when I started to read, especially on the fight scenes, you can't really see what's happening properly.
Without thinking about this I can say that I liked this first volume!
When I read the title from the list of books I thought about the Tesla machine but in this manga there is the historical character Tesla, the one who invented the light bulb.
When you read you can also learn something about this important man, even if some part are obviously invented for this story like the "Tesla Fragments", the heart of this manga!

I liked Botan's character, she's little and kind but can become lethal.
Kuruma is very funny and I’m sure it will be one of the characters that will be better developed together with Botan.
I’m curious to know how things will evolve.

Thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha comics for letting me read this manga in exchange for an honest review.

4/5

I really love the characters in this story, each one of them has some annoying quirks, but the difference in characters gives the story more colour and shades. Relationship between Botan and Kuruma has lots of paths, at the moment they are bit of enemies, there is a chance it could take a romance turn, which I think would turn out amazingly. I personally adore mangas with touch of a romance.

In other volumes I would hope to explore backstories of each character. We can see that Botan has experienced a lot in her childhood, so I feel like it's really important to find out more.

Illustrations and art was truly beautiful it had a lot of details. Also the story itself was laid out perfectly, not too much text in pages.

The only reason it's one star less from perfect is cause it's first volume and you would like to be more attached and invested with the whole plot.

Definitely recommend, planning to read other volumes too.

I am always a sucker for a good spy story so this one full of action and inspired by history was such a treat! Especially since the main character is also a ninja.

I loved the banter between the two main characters. They both got paired together for this mission so seeing them figure out how to work together despite them seemingly not liking the other was a ton of fun. I had many moments of laughing out loud. The action scenes were easy to follow along with too which I appreciated.

I really enjoyed this first volume and am eagerly awaiting the rest of the series! Check this one out of if you love banter, action, spy missions and creepy magic and a bit of a horror aspect mixed in.

ARC Copy...I sense promise for the series overall and the historical-scifi/steampunk premise may attract viewership however I'm little hmm with...sensing historical liberties has been taken somewhere (not so much Tesla inventing-locking away supernatural weaponry).

Love the art by Kota Sannomiya as it was very compelling and each scene in the panels are very well detailed.
Sadly, the story was not for me. It is action-packed but the main characters are really not that interesting (although they look amazing). Plot is not that unique if you have delved into these type of genre.

A good start but can totally be better for the next re

Special thanks to NetGalley, Masafumi Nishida, Tadayoshi Kubo, Kota Sannomiya and Kodansha Comics for an e-ARC.

My first contact with the title was, of course, through the anime. It's extremely disappointing because of its awful CGI animation. And even with its first episode, it doesn't present the story very well. All these factors, along with a few other nonsense, rejected me as a spectator. (But otherwise they have a great musical layout. Or unfortunately, because everything else repulses not only me, but a lot of other people, so the music is not enough).
I hoped things would be different in the manga. I know the authors are talented. I like "Tiger & Bunny" (but I don't deny that there were a lot of ridiculous things there, just the characters were great in general).
The manga is thousands of times more charming. It's true that anything that doesn't have an ugly CGI is charming, since I'm a fan of traditional animation, but let me tell you. Unfortunately, the story begins the same way as in the anime. It is not well presented, it is not even well presented at all, it is too elementary and obviously the authors have said that they do not need to think much about it. In general, nothing arouses interest. There is no well-presented and meaningful action, nor do they talk about interesting things. The poor protagonist tries to impress with his spirituality and resemblance to the Tiger in character, but he is alone. The girl (I still can't figure out if they christened her Botan as a "wild boar" or as that kind of peony with a similar spelling ... If they said it somewhere, it must have been a good joke, but I somehow missed it because in general, the manga was distracting) ... Well, the girl probably has to play Bunny, but Bunny managed to be as charming as a tsundere, while the local one doesn't.
In general, even if I had ignored the anime (it was known to be CGI before it was released, but I should be informed ...), I would not have liked the manga more or less. It's not my title.

The original of my opinion is in Bulgarian. Sorry for the translation errors.

3/5 Love the artwork and such a unique plot!

The plot in this is really interesting but the story has some issues and this is only volume 1. I was going to give it two stars because of certain issues but I decided not to because of how much I enjoyed the storyline that's forming. There were a few things that didn't make sense that I won't state because of spoilers and I assume they are just bad foreshadowing bits but for a sci-fi kind of plot, I'd expect a little more subtlety (Idk if I worded this great its 2:53 am sorry!). I also had an issue with the suggestive speech towards our female main character (happens 2-3 times I believe) and there were a few panels that just made me pretty uncomfy considering they call her a teen and the fact that she looks 12. I'd recommend this to people who like spy films and illustrated action that isn't hard to understand (pretty rare for action manga so plus!).

Disclaimer: I read an early ARC copy of this on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the cover and thought the summary sounded interesting, but overall this volume was disappointing. The art is great good, the character design was decent and the action panels weren't too messy to follow. Where things really lacked for me was with the characters and the plot. The concept is pretty neat: Nikola Tesla, renowned turn of the century inventor, realized his inventions were too ahead of the times and locked them away in shards which, when tampered with, cause mayhem and chaos. There's a few different organizations vying for the shards, but real goals and motivations aren't stated. The first volume revolves around the hunt for one specific shard and setting up the main cast, but mostly things aren't well explained and I felt lost at times. I did like Botan's character well enough, but didn't care for most of the other characters. I also thought the attempts at humor were forced and fell flat, it felt like the author was trying to include a type of humor that just didn't suit the story. It created an awkward narrative and I didn't like how it informed character interaction. Overall a great premise, but not the best execution. I do think there is potential for the author to hit their stride and really pull out a good story in future volumes though.

Action packed and extremely well illustrated, "Tesla Note" is an interesting story about a young ninja and spy who team up to save the world from "Tesla Fragments" which cause supernatural chaos wherever they are.

I really enjoyed this first manga. What caught my attention was the drawings on the cover. I found them really pretty and, now that I read this first book, I can say they were very good! It's funny because, sometimes, I even had the impression of reading a comic/ graphic novel: the facial expressions were so well drawn that it was almost surprising to find them in a manga.

Concerning the plot, it was pretty interesting. I thought that the main idea with Nikola Tesla and the crystals was really original! I love learning new things when reading books, and Tesla Note really taught me new things concerning physics and all this stuff. So I was really happy with it.
This first book was introducing the story in itself, so there was a lot of information scattered here and there, which was sometimes hard to follow and a bit overwhelming. By the end, you feel like you've been given tones of things to remember, so many that you can't remember any of them (ok, I'm perhaps exaggerating a little). However, I would say that the balance between actions and information was good. It made the reading a bit less heavy and boring, if I may say.

Because of all the information, I think I didn't really feel connected with the main characters—I couldn't even say what their names were, apart from Botan. Some backstories were also introduced, like that of Botan, but it feels a bit too early to, again, say that I felt connected to her.

I'd be really curious to continue this manga, just to see how the characters evolve and where the story goes, and I surely would recommend it to anyone who likes sci-fi mangas with fun characters.

Thank you Kodansha Comics and Netgalley for this ARC and the opportunity to review it!

I’m not sure about this manga series yet, there is world building and character set up throughout the first volume. We start with action and then end on a more personal storyline. The art is good, and I did like that there were some unexpected elements.

Overall though the characters haven’t stuck with me, I’ve already forgotten the names and the “special one” storyline isn’t my favourite to begin with. I really hope they don’t follow the cliché of hate/then love between the two main characters. I think this would be a lot better without romance.

I do want to read the next book. I think there is potential for this series, but the first volume didn’t sell it as much as it could have.

Thank you Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for the opportunity to read and review this.

I found this a very interesting and fun read. It was interesting that the idea of Tesla and his inventions in the story was incorporated into the story.

As this is just the first volume, we are quickly introduced to the main characters and a brief introduction to the villains.

I found that there was quite a bit of action, and some parts quite emotional, which I hope will be later explored in later volumes regarding their past.

Definitely looking forward to the next volume!

I received an eARC of this title through NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I thought this was a fun read. I liked the incorporation of Tesla and his inventions in the story. The characters were interesting and had individual quirks which kept the story light when the story could have stayed serious the whole time. I think having this quirks made the plot and characters more relatable while keeping the horror elements that come along with the investigations.

I liked how this volume introduced the characters and plot. It did not feel too heavy on exposition and utilized the plot to move the story forward while still being able to explain what is happening. I think my only critique would be some of the fight scenes were hard for me to follow. I could not tell what character was doing what, but this is also a minor thing.

I recommend this for anyone who likes a manga with character depth, adventure, and just a smidge of comedic relief.
