TO TREASURE AN HEIRESS by Roseanna M. White

Revew:

As a sequel to The Nature of a Lady, this book brought more adventures as Beth continued to uncover Mucknell’s treasure. It’s still best to read the first book but I think this can be read as a standalone. Beth’s beautiful storytelling would inform readers of the important events in book one. Beautiful cover too.

Beth loved to explore and to know what’s beyond. Good thing Lord Sheridan was in agreement with her. I have enjoyed their enemies-to-lovers story more. Their banter, fun. I am glad Millicent and Abbie were invited to Tresco because they were fierce but adorable at the same time. They were a force to be reckoned with. The mystery, suspense and romance that surrounds this book makes it another interesting read.

I absolutely loved To Treasure an Heiress! If possible, I liked this even more than the first book in the series.

Roseanna White is a favorite author so I was very happy to get lost within the pages of her newest book. To Treasure an Heiress has the perfect blend of historical detail, beautiful descriptions, expertly-paced plot, sweet romance and a strong faith message that I have come to expect in one of her novels.

The central plot of the series revolves around the search for pirate treasure. Clues that are cleverly hidden within family stories handed down through generations guide members of the Tremayne family and friends. Yet as they unite and face a common foe, they discover something even more valuable. I couldn't help but laugh out loud at the most charming but bumbling hero and his efforts to win Beth Tremayne's affections. Some of the secondary characters will win readers' hearts as well. Cannot wait to return to the Scilly Islands in the next book.

I could not wait to read this book! Pirate Treasure, evil villains, crazy family, and of course romance, what’s not to love? I first met the main characters in The Nature of a Lady and I was dying to get to spend more time with them. Talk about a unique group! If you have yet to read the first book in this series don’t worry, you will still be able to follow along, and I’m sure you’ll fall in love with the characters just as I did. White had my attention from the first page and I didn’t want to stop reading. She took me by surprise with many unexpected twists and turns. I enjoyed playing treasure hunter right along with them, and had fun trying to piece together the clues. I loved watching Elizabeth and Sheridan’s interactions. I actually laughed out loud on a few occasions. This story was a wonderful adventure, and I can’t wait to see where their quests take me next. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Historical Romance. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers and was in no way forced to post a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

In the second book of the “Secrets of the Isles” we return to the Scilly Isles (pronounced “Silly”). Beth who we meet only for a short time in the first book has returned and the treasure hunt she started then now continues. Lord Sheridan that we met in the first book who traced treasure to Scilly is now staying at Beth’s house and he has something that belongs to her. And won’t give it back. As Beth is forced to work with Sheridan we grow to see him as the good guy he is as she gets to truly know him. I thought he was a total goof but I learned he was much more than that through Beth’s eyes. Their romance was sweet. Their banter back and forth was almost laugh out loud funny.

Even though there are a lot of characters in this book, each one has their own well developed personality, all with their own strengths and weaknesses. The faith content was just right. Not too much or too little. Characters had conversations with themselves in their heads whether they were living their life to please the Lord. Sheridan has a moment of prayer that’s eye opening about if he’s living his faith. The theme of family and the love and acceptance that comes with it was very heart warming.

There was romance, adventure, family, faith. What more could you ask for? I look forward to the conclusion in the third to see what happens to Beth and Sheridan and all their wonderful friends and family.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and publisher. All opinions were my own. I was not required to give a positive review.

“You should marry me, Beth, so our compasses can be friends.”

What an enchanting historical romance brimming with side-splitting humor, treasure-hunting mystery, unforgettable characters, tender romance, beautiful faith lessons, and breath-taking scenery! This has to be the funniest book that Roseanna M White has penned; I have not laughed this much while reading a historical fiction in a long time. Sheridan is so incredibly funny yet completely oblivious to his quirky charm. But Sheridan is more than just humorously odd and clumsy mannerisms and speech; his considerate thoughtfulness toward all people - from his beloved sisters to strangers - and his innocent sweetness make him quite the memorable hero. Beth’s loyal love toward family and friends is well-balanced by her free-spirited desire for adventure. Their relationship is a combination of enemies-to-lovers and one-sided love and it’s so much fun!

Ainsley, Sheridan’s valet, and Senara, daughter of Beth’s housekeeper, provide the second romance in the story. They’re both steady calming influences in the major characters’ lives and their subplot is achingly tender and redemptive. I hope to see more of them in the next book.

Magical folk lore, heady treasure hunt, evil men causing mischief, heart-stopping romance, and tight bonds of family all in an adventure of a lifetime? You don’t want to miss this book!

I received the book from the publisher and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are my own.

To Treasure and Heiress by Rosanne White is a fabulous read! It is the second book in the Secrets of the Isles series.

Sheridan was my favorite character! He was so romantic and hilarious. Sheridan will be one of my top favorite book heroes. He is the reason I will be reading this book several more times.

Beth is an adventurer. She has been searching for treasure on the isles. She and Sheridan share a passion for adventures.

I love how Roseanne creates unique and quirky characters that you cannot help but fall in love with. You hate for the stories to end.

I highly recommend this book for hours of enjoyment. I read it in one day.

I promise, this is the last Roseanna M White review for at least two posts. But when my GORGEOUS print copy of To Treasure an Heiress came in the mail, I couldn't NOT read it, now could I? Especially a signed copy! Once again, I am in love. This book takes place literally right after book one in the series, and picks up right where we left off. The main difference is we get to follow flighty but fierce Beth around the isles, and laugh together over Sheridan's sense of humor. (Full confession, I made the dog very upset by laughing too hard while reading this one...) Some of Sheridan's views may seem a bit... well, wrong, on the surface, but I find that he is such a real character. Someone who is shocked when no one else sees that he isn't a heathen. Someone who cares deeply. Someone who just can't stand up to his crazy older sisters. One who is inexplicably best friends with the character I was determined to hate after his behavior in book one, but who may or may not be growing on me just in time for his own book. (Looking at you, Telly...) Mamm-wynn is once again, amazing and just exactly what she needs to be. Senara took the third POV character, and I loved the wisdom that Ainsley and Senara's mam both poured into her. There were so many good things that happened in this story, even through the bad things, that I couldn't stop reading. (Even gave myself two migraines trying to read it on kindle before my print copy came...) If you're ready for some pirate treasure hunting in the most beautiful place you could be in 1906, then this book is definitely where it's at.

To Treasure an Heiress is the second installment from Roseanna M White’s series, The Secrets of the Isles. I had the pleasure of reading the first book, The Nature of a Lady. I really enjoyed that one and could not possibly think this one would be even better read. I have to admit that I was wrong. This one is by far my favorite I have read by this author to date. I adored Beth and Sheridan as a duo. They made a great team together as they try to solve the mystery. This is one of those books that are not easily predictable and made me to keep reading until I was finished. I had no problem reading the whole book in one sitting.

I am giving To Treasure an Heiress a very well deserved five plus stars. I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy reading clean historical romance. I look forward to the next book from The Secrets of the Isles series.

I received a copy of To Treasure an Heiress from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

It’s been so long since I’ve read a Roseanna White book that I’d forgotten just how much I enjoy them! A whimsical adventure with a hint of the swashbucklery of Treasure Island, To Treasure an Heiress explores the wonder of everyday life in the Scillies through the eyes of the delightful Tremayne family.

I adored each of the characters so very much. Mamm-wynn was such a dear and the perfect mentor for Beth. Oliver was kind and supportive, Ainsley thoughtful and gentle, and Senara an admirable role model. Telford provided plenty of comic relief, and Sheridan’s sisters were adorable and hilarious and not at all what I was expecting (a.k.a. the garden scene)! Oh, and I haven’t even gotten started on Beth and Sheridan.

Beth managed to be an adventurous, independent woman without falling off the edge into the stereotypical strong female trope. I loved her affinity for fairytales and her love for a good treasure hunt. I admired her spark. She wasn’t afraid to be outspoken. And I could certainly sympathize with her desire to keep her discoveries all to herself. Perhaps it’s an introverted tendency to want to keep secrets? Either way, she was a delightful character to tag along with.

Ah, Sheridan. He really is what made this book so good. I wasn’t sure what to think of him at the start (what with his instant attraction to Beth and all), but I slowly fell in love with him over the course of the story. It’s not very often you find such an energetic, outgoing, and just regular good-natured fellow with a zest for life like Sheridan among the too-often-used dark, introverted, mysterious heroes. The way he was always going off on rabbit trails and saying too much made me laugh! And his sense of humor was really so entertaining (view spoiler). But it was his love for Pride & Prejudice that really made me fall for him. (Don’t try to dissuade me. It’s hopeless now.)

I always love a good enemies to lovers story, and this one did not disappoint! Beth’s hostility toward Sheridan and their banter made me chuckle. Like I said above, I wasn’t quite sure what to make of Sheridan’s instant attraction to Beth, since I’m not a huge fan of the instant love trope. But Roseanna did a great job pulling it off in such a way that it didn’t feel rushed or superficial. Really, Sheridan’s eagerness to marry her quickly became endearing and made me like him all the more. I loved how even though he was smitten with her from the start, he slowly sought to win her over and give her time to feel the same way about him.

As for the plot, I was slightly confused at first about all the characters and their relations, but I suspect that’s because I haven’t read the first book. But I was able to puzzle most everything out after a few chapters, so that wasn’t too much of a problem. Overall, the plot was well-paced and even though it was a little slower than your typical high-stakes adventure, somehow Roseanna managed to bring out the magic of ordinary life in early 1900s Scillies.

Roseanna’s strong point is, well . . . everything, but her historical details are always on point and so well woven into the fabric of the story that you hardly feel like you’re getting a history lesson. The Cornish culture and mannerisms punctuated the story so well and make me want to visit Scilly and experience it for myself!

I loved how the Christian theology was always present, but didn’t overshadow the story in the least bit. Instead, it added depth and richness to the story. I loved the strong family and hospitality themes that came out in Beth’s supportive, close-knit family, despite the intense loss they had endured. I enjoyed watching Beth learn to work with others and put them above herself. And most of all, to open her heart up to Sheridan and invite him into her adventures.

All in all, this is a book that will keep you captivated long past midnight, chuckling until your sides hurt, and desperately wishing for more of Sheridan and Beth. You won’t be able to put it down!

To Treasure An Heiress, book 2 in Roseanna White's Secrets of the Isles is a fabulous book! It was fascinating reading about the Scilly Islands. On these cold winter days, I really enjoyed the warmth of the islands. Beth and Sheridan are adorable and I love their witty conversations! The treasure hunt kept me engaged and cheering Beth on. I loved the plot twists. The secondary characters are quite well developed and I feel as though I had a lovely vacation in a time gone by. My suggestion is to curl up under a sun lamp, with a pitcher of ice tea and enjoy a lovely adventure!

I was given a copy of this book by NetGalley with no expectations. All thoughts are my own.

To Treasure an Heiress picks up right where The Nature of a Lady left off, with Beth and company continuing the search for the pirate prince’s treasure. Though still angry with Sheridan over her trinket box (see previous book), he continues to be her only real ally in the search for the treasure. I enjoyed watching Beth go from verbally sparring with Sheridan one moment, to asking him to go treasure hunting the next. Beth was a very relatable character to me because of how she got swept up in the story and the romance of the legend, to the point of possibly ignoring a little bit of common sense because she likes the story better.

Sheridan was adorable! Oh my goodness. I loved his awkward nerdiness in the first book, but getting to know him from his own point of view (and Beth’s) was even more enjoyable. His inner dialogue and narration with himself, planning his pursuit of Beth (or her pursuit of him), and when he’d speak out loud after having most of the conversation with himself...there were so many good moments!

My two favorite scenes between the two of them both took place in the library. One because it was swoon-worthy, the other because it was hilarious. I can’t write them here, because spoilers, but I hope you enjoy them when you get to it.

As always, the secondary characters were tremendous. I loved Sonara’s story, and Sheridan’s valet was a jewel! And then there’s Sheridan’s sisters, who are a force to be reckoned with. I honestly don’t think Roseanna White can write a boring character!

I hope you enjoy To Treasure an Heiress as much as I did.

I received an advanced copy of this book for reviewing purposes. All opinions expressed are my own.

To Treasure an Heiress is the second book in the "Secrets of the Isles" series and another great story. I enjoyed the first book when I read it last year, so I was eager to pick up this one and continue the journey.

Something I appreciated is that this story still featured the main characters from "The Nature of a Lady", even though this one is about Beth and Sheridan.

Speaking of Sheridan...he was such an amazing hero! He had me laughing so much with all his talk of ways to propose and such. ;) Too funny!

All in all, To Treasure an Heiress was a wonderful read and I definitely recommend it. I can hardly wait to read the third book when it releases.

What a fun book! Roseanna M. White returns with her trademark engaging style of storytelling packed with suspense, heart, and historical detail in equal measure, while managing to give us a fresh novel that is wholly original.

The characters in this book are wonderfully lifelike. Layered and relatable, they feel like people you know in real life. Beth was a delightful character to read about. Her bold personality and constant craving for adventure make her a standout heroine and she practically leaps off the page. Lord Sheridan is a wonderful balance to her. I must admit, I hadn’t really looked forward to him being the hero of this book, having not been his greatest fan while reading the prior book, The Nature of a Lady, though this was mainly due to the fact that I wanted Libby to be with Oliver. Yet we see a whole other side to Sheridan in To Treasure an Heiress; his sense of humor and devotion to Beth were endearing and make him a hero worthy of the title. I also loved Senara; she had a sweet personality and my heart went out to her in light of all she had been through.

The enchanting Isles of Scilly is the perfect setting for a story about the hunt for pirate treasure. White’s writing brings to life this region and lovingly paints it as a storybook backdrop for Beth’s adventures. Reading about the search for centuries old pirate treasure lends even more intrigue and adventure to the book, creating a fun atmosphere that will keep readers guessing. This, combined with gentle messages of faith and grace make for a truly entertaining and lovely read.

To Treasure an Heiress is an enchanting historical novel. For those that love sweet romance with plenty of mystery, intrigue, and adventure, look no further; this will be your new favorite read!

Many thanks to the author and Bethany House for a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

I really enjoyed this book for the witty banter between Beth and Lord Sheridan (who by the way, reads Jane Austen with his sisters), the inspirational arc for Senara, the loyal and wise valet Ainsley, and of course, (grandma) Mamm-wynn. I thought the prologue had value in setting the stage for the legend of the pirate prince and the treasure hunt. I loved how Beth wrote a fairy tale about her adventure in The Nature of a Lady. It was a great way to remind me of what happened in the first book. All of the characters from book one are on hand again and Beth and Sheridan are perfect as enemies to allies to love. Sheridan’s internal (and sometimes not so internal) monologues were so much fun. He really was the star of this one for me. I’m already looking forward to book three with Emily and Bram (Lord Telford has hidden depths, I just know it).

I received an eARC from the author and publisher. A positive review was not required and all opinions are my own.

It might be too early to tell, as the third book hasn’t come out yet, but this might be my favorite book from this series. I adored Sheridan! From the moment they were introduced in the first book, Beth and Sheridan got my attention right away. I found them both fascinating and hilarious to read.

This might be Roseanna M. White’s most humorous book yet, mostly due to Sheridan’s character and his inner monologues, which were hilarious to read. Beth and Sheridan share a sharp wit and a taste for adventure. In each other, they find a kindred spirit and a tender love. I was specially drawn to Sheridan. I got to follow his thought process throughout the book, and by the end, I felt like a really knew this character. His stream of consciousness, felt very personal and, although humorous, was full of excellent wisdom at times.

The secondary characters in this book were beautifully written. I adored the story of Senara and Ainsley! And I really appreciated the message of the pearl. As a believer myself, I thought that was a very special piece of writing. I’m going to need at least a novella about Senara and Ainsley and Mabena and Casek somewhere down the line. I need to find out what happens to them!

All the characters in this book played a special part and each brought a lesson of their own, something that I truly loved. I definitely recommend this book!

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley, for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own. I absolutely loved it!

To Treasure an Heiress
The Secrets of the Isles #2
By Roseanna M. White

In The Nature of a Lady (TNOAL), Lady Elizabeth "Libby" Sinclair is mistaken for Elizabeth "Beth" Tremayne when Beth disappears. Beth's disappearance was planned when her treasure hunting on the Isles of Scilly attracted unwanted attention and danger. But though she has returned home, Beth isn't about to give up her search for the pirate John Mucknell's buried treasure, a treasure that the Pirate Prince, the original owner of Beth's stolen trinket box, had a part in hiding.

Lord Theodore Howe, Marquess of Sheridan, has taken up residence in the Tremayne home, much to Beth's utter annoyance. Sheridan is more than a little pleased to be so close to the treasure hunt and to Beth, who has utterly captured his attention. The self-contained dialogue Sheridan keeps up in his head regarding his feelings for Beth is priceless. I absolutely LOVE Sheridan and his valet servant Ainsley; they are perfect together and obviously great friends. I also think their interactions go a long way to changing Beth's very negative opinion of Sheridan.

The danger that was in TNOAL has only increased and is still lurking as Beth is about to discover. And it is focused on the very treasure that Beth has been researching and seeking. But to outwit the competition, Beth is going to have to do the one thing she doesn't want to do; share what she has discovered and get help from those around her, including the dastardly, villainous Lord Sheridan, who just might be not as bad as she has painted him.

This book is the second in The Secrets of the Isles series and is a wonderful addition to the series. Some new characters are introduced, and their addition adds some interesting additional story threads to the whole. I know some people don't like prologues, but I always love trying to figure out where it will come into play in the story, and this one plays an essential role in the story. The ending is perfect and leaves you wanting book three but without the torture of a cliffhanger.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations, but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

A proper young woman in 1909, England doesn’t do certain things. Such as disappearing for weeks at a time and living alone on a deserted island. Nor does she crave adventure and the world outside her close-knit island community off the shores of Cornwall. But Beth Tremayne defies all the conventions of society. Partly to feed her thirst for adventure, and partly to protect her family from unscrupulous treasure hunters. Treasure hunters who want to claim the treasure Beth has spent the summer hunting for. To make things worse, her brother has invited the unsufferable Lord Tremayne to stay with them.

Lord Sheridan loves archeology, treasure hunting, and travel. When he searches for pirate treasure left by one of his ancestors, he ends up on Tresco, one of the Isles of Scilly. Although his best friend, Lord Telford wants him to marry his sister, Elizabeth, Sheridan falls in love at first sight with Beth Tremayne. But she wants nothing to do with him. With a treasure and his future in the balance, can Sheridan convince Beth to work with him, instead of against him, to unlock the mysteries of their pasts?

Why I Loved This Book

The second installment in Roseanna M. White’s Secrets of the Isles series is even better than the first book, The Nature of a Lady. Readers don’t have to read the first book, but why not? The endearing Lord Sheridan’s attempts to gain Beth’s approval made me laugh out loud. The treasure hunt, which begins in book one, continues in the second book as Beth and Sheridan race to unlock mysteries from both of their pasts.

Readers will relate to both Beth and Sheridan as they struggle to fit comfortably into a world that doesn’t always accept them. White includes memorable characters (Sheridan’s whirlwind sisters deserve their own book) which add depth as well as comic relief to the story.

Fans of Jen Turano, Kristy Cambron, and J’Nell Ciesielski will enjoy this book.

Roseanna White’s latest, To Treasure an Heiress, is perhaps my new all time favorite novel by this author! The second book in White’s Secrets of the Isles series, readers are gripped in the story of Beth and Sheridan as they embark on a treasure hunt that is full of colorful characters, humor, danger, and romance. I adored the prose and the dialogue as my imagination was flooded with each nuance of the story. White’s pacing and perfectly timed tension created a tale that held me captive each step of the way.

I do highly recommend reading the first book in the series before delving into this one. And I guarantee that you will not be content to stop there. As soon as the third book is released, I am positive you will jump into that novel as well. This book, centering on a treasure hunt, is a true treasure in and of itself. I cannot praise it highly enough!

I received this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

The continuing story of the Tremayne family which follows the first book in this series, THE NATURE OF A LADY, was once again a true gem to read! The sweet romance and surprising humor was in perfect balance, and I am completely in love with this one...

TO TREASURE AN HEIRESS brings Beth into the spotlight - we were introduced to her in book one. This young lady thirsts for adventure and has a way of getting herself into all kinds of trouble as a result. She craves excitement in her life, and what better way to find that than on a treasure hunt right in her own backyard?

Then there is Sheridan, another character we met briefly in book one. At the time, he didn't make much of an impression on me. But now, he may be my favorite character! His adorable awkwardness and humorous charm completely caught me off guard and I fell head over heels for him right off. Beth took a bit longer to warm up to him - silly girl - and Sheridan trying to win her over were some of the best highlights of the whole story.

For a little bonus: I happened to look up the meaning of the name Sheridan (for other reasons, not specific to this book). But for this character, the meaning is spot on! According to the author, this was completely unintentional - and yet that just means it was meant to be, right? A little stamp of approval from the Master Storyteller, perhaps? Go look it up!

Roseanna M. White has not disappointed me yet in the way she writes. From her eloquent and often poetic way of writing, to the research and detail she puts into the settings, to the poignant spiritual elements. She achieves all of this with a subtle beauty that never comes across as forced or preachy, rather in a way that is achingly raw and passionate and believable.
Like the first book, TO TREASURE AN HEIRESS focuses on not just one but two couples - both with very different stories, yet weaving together flawlessly into the main storyline.

The romance is gentle and sweet, an appropriately clean read. There are some topics of a more mature nature - but all are handled in a PG-rated manner.

If you think the cover is gorgeous - and it really is! - then you can be confident the story within is just as beautiful. I got to the last few pages of the story and struggled with all the feels - knowing it was coming to an end. I wanted to tuck myself away with these characters on the beautiful Isles of Scilly and stay with them forever!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher. This is an honest review, and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
