Charlie Thorne, a prodigy and genius, once again takes the reader on a mad romp, this time through tEgypt, Greece, and Italy, and this installment, the third in the series, will not disappoint. The action begins in Egypt, where Charlie is trying to find Cleopatra's treasure, and it isn't long before she is being pursued by the Egyptians, the Israelis, a CIA team led by her brother, and a very wealthy businessman and his security goons.
This fast paced mystery, in some of the world's most historical settings, will thrill and educate at the same time. I highly recommend! Thank you to Simon and Schuster Children’s Publishing and Netgalley for the digital arc.

We requested and received an electronic copy of this book from NetGalley because my 15-year old is a big fan. She really enjoyed this third installment in the Charlie Thorne series! She had absolutely loved the first book in the series and then found the second one disappointing so she was a little nervous about this one but ended up loving it. According to her, this book is a total must read! She said that reading about now-13-year-old Charlie alone and hiding in Egypt while chasing a treasure hidden by Cleopatra herself was awesome!

Charlie Thorne and the Curse of Cleopatra is a children’s book written by Stuart Gibbs. It is the third book in the Charlie Thorne series.

Summary: Charlie Thorne is off on another adventure to discover the true treasure of Cleopatra. Can she dodge the Israelis, the Egyptians, an evil magnate and his henchmen, and even the CIA to find the treasure first?

My Thoughts: This book is packed with adventure. There are interesting clues to follow, copious amounts of exciting chase scenes, and a plot that keeps the reader guessing until the very end.

I read this book aloud to my kids, and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. This is the best of the series so far, and I would definitely recommend this one-it was a fun and exciting read!

I would like to thank Simon and Schuster Children’s Publishing for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you!

Books by Gibbs are so popular in my Media Center. Charlie Thorne is always in demand and this latest will not disappoint.
Charlie continues her sleuthing in this suspenseful adventure. This time, Cleopatra, the Egyptian Queen, provides the impetus for Charlie's detective work. She has left behind a treasure which she does not want to fall into the wrong hands. She has left mysterious and enigmatic clues and Charlie is determined to decipher them.
The writing is always edge-of-your seat exciting. The action is there to uncover. She, undoubtedly, matches wits with her enemies always to emerge stronger and better than her adversaries. Great read, as always!

Charlie Thorne has become one of my favorite book characters! This is the 3rd book in the series, and each book is better than the last!

In this book, Charlie is still on her quest to uncover the treasures from Einstein's list. She is headed to Egypt to find Cleopatra's secret to her great wealth. I loved the historical look into Cleopatra's life and her successful rule, even though her life ended in tragedy at her own hands. Cleopatra is portrayed as a highly intelligent ruler instead of a. pretty face who married some other powerful guys. Several myths were dispelled in this book regarding Cleopatra and her family and life and I learned some Egyptian history I never knew before.

The nonstop action in this book and the scrapes that Charlie finds herself in and barely gets herself out of make this a page-turner and nearly impossible to put down. I also like the movement of Dante and Milana's storyline. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens to them and hoping Arthur Zell gets his own in the next book!

First, I have to admit that I haven't read the other books in the series. That's a mistake, but not because it was hard to sink into this book...actually, it wasn't a problem to immediately be drawn into the story and understand exactly what was going on (so, this can be read as a stand-alone). It's a mistake not to read the others first because this adventure is truly tons of fun to read, and I can only imagine the rest of the series is a treat, too.

Charlie just turned thirteen and has just discovered a huge clue to take her on her next search for an ancient treasure, which could mean huge trouble if it falls into the wrong hands. She's located an Egyptian stone tablet, which holds the secret to the power Cleopatra hoped to entrust her own son with before Octavian's victory. So far, no one seems to suspect what the tablet truly hides, but Charlie knows exactly how to decipher the clues. But even with her amazing intelligence, wit and skills, time's against her as more and more organizations realize she's on a new hunt.

Action, excitement, tension, and clever deduction make this an exciting read, which flows seamlessly from beginning to end. The fast pace keeps the reader on their toes, never leaving even a smidgen of space for boredom to seep in. Charlie races around the world, going from one exotic location to the next. Each one carries cultural flair and a few details to highlight the atmosphere, and yet, there's never a load of descriptions to slow things down, either. It's high-action the entire way through, and that with more than a handful of characters. Even each of these carries enough personality to make them intriguing, and each one harbors their own goals.

While the action and plot twist this way and that with all sorts of unexpected moments and directions, the author manages to build in quite a bit of history, too. The first chapter with Cleopatra grabs and puts her in a more natural light than is often found in literature. The historical tidbits, which Charlie uses to pull the clues together, are as interesting as the places she visits. Throw in the illustrations of the clues she discovers, and it's more than intriguing mix.

This is sold for ages ten and up, and the subject matter does work well with the upper middle grade range and beyond. Sensitive readers might find some scenes a little harder, thanks to a few moments of violence...nothing over the top, but there are shootings and other harsher acts in a true, hardened spy world. For the average reader, it is tension pure and a gripping read.
