Another win by Katherine Center! I am not a regular romance reader but I always appreciate that Katherine's books are realistic and relatable. Writing is top notch with good character development.

Thank you to Netgalley and to the publisher/author for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This was my first Katherine Center novel, after hearing many great things about her previous novels. The Bodyguard follows Hannah Brooks, a executive protection agent who after losing her mother and being unceremoniously dumped is assigned to protect Jack Stapleton, one of Hollywood's hottest actors who has gone under the radar after a car accident that claimed the life of his brother.

This book had all of the elements for me to love it, fake dating, celebrity, famous/non-famous relationship but it ultimately fell sort of flat for me. While I appreciate that Hannah was a workaholic type character I just found her too unlikable as a protagonist. I understand that she was still working on finding herself but at many points she did not feel human. Nothing about her storyline really felt interesting to me. I did find the family tension with Jack intriguing and I liked the sort of twist action ending as well as the gender switched bodyguard trope. I enjoyed my time with the book but I did not love it.

Oh don’t mind me. I just went ahead and got the audiobook and a physical copy too because digital isn’t enough.

 Short chapters? ✔️
Swoony slow-burn romance? ✔️
Unputdownable? ✔️

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a Very cute rom com with an small air of mystery. It was also a slightly different trope than most. The female mc was the grump instead of the male Mc

Most of us, at some point, have fallen in love with a character in a movie and imagined meeting the movie star in real life and starring in our own Hollywood romance. But in The Bodyguard by Katherine Center, one woman has to figure out how to maintain her composure while working for a Hollywood heartthrob.

I feel bad, but I think I need to finally face the fact that I am just not really a Katherine Center fan. It's nothing at all against her, but her books don't seem to be my style and I just don't understand how people love them so much. But her covers are so freaking gorgeous I get sucked into reading every single one! and then I'm disappointed each time.

I mean, The Bodyguard was fine and maybe I just needed to let myself go and enjoy it. But I just had way too many issues with it It's a cute concept if not wildly unrealistic. At first, I could picture it as a movie with Sandra Bullock playing Hannah, the bodyguard.

I didn't really understand what the big deal with "protecting" Jack at all costs was. Celebrities live without this level of security all the time. The corgi stalker lady didn't feel like a major threat to me when you think about what lots of other celebrities have to deal with. And why were they suddenly so worried about her just because he was in a new place when she had clearly been around for a while?? And then the ending? What the heck. It felt so unrealistic and weird that I realized Sandra Bullock would never agree to the script.

Also, one second Hannah said Jack couldn't be out of her sight for a second and then the next, she left to go to her office without even telling him?? Oh, and she's so on-guard at all times and could literally protect Jack from a gunman if needed, but is frightened by cows? I'm not buying it. Even small parts of the book felt off to me, like when Jack is telling his parents the truth about him and Hannah- they're reaction was just so strange.

This book was just meh all around for me. It felt like the author had a fun concept for a book (I agree!), but then took it in all sorts of unrealistic and weird directions.

But clearly PLENTY of people are loving this one and I'm in the minority. I think if you like a lot of cheesiness and fake dating tropes and don't need a book to feel realistic, you might like this one more than I did!

This was such a sweet rom com! I loved seeing Hannah and Jack's relationship develop over the course of this story.

I thought this book was a super cute twist on a romance plot trope: The bodyguard and the client, but the bodyguard is a petite woman, and the client is a tall man!

I think Hannah and Jack were really symbiotic - this may be more evident as I am grieving my own parent, but I understand Hannah's actions (and Jack's) without any judgement.

They were a quirky couple together, but it's what made them work. Loved it!

I enjoyed this. Hannah is a bodyguard and has to protect a handsome movie star. She ends up pretending to be his girlfriend. It is a typical romance - they get to know each other and fall in love. But it's also funny, heart warming, sad and has a bit of excitement and drama.

Overall quite a good book - exactly what I needed - a fun romance.

Thank you to NetGalley, Katherine Center and St Martin’s Press for the free e-book in exchange for an honest review.

I am now having a major book hangover. Center can do no wrong for me, she’s writes some of my very favourite characters. But this one is my favourite yet! I loved seeing a female in the more stereotypical male position and who doesn’t wonder in their life if they are loveable. This was so sweet and yet so relevant. I binged this and I will 100% recommend this to EVERYONE!

I was super excited when I saw Katherine Center had a new book out and I'll admit I went into this one blind. I mean, it's Katherine Center - of course I'm going to read it!

So, imagine my surprise when I found out that the gender roles were reversed! A female bodyguard?! Sign me up (and cue Whitney belting out in joy)... but.... I didn't really love how it played out unfortunately. I kinda felt like her old role was downplayed, almost characterized and a bit over the top cutesy slapstick.

Why couldn't she badass? Why so many gaffes and klutzy moments and irrational fears? I felt like she was written to be weak, and the male had to "save her" - yes, I know, that last scene was kinda badass, but up until that point I felt a bit embarrassed for her. She's an elite bodyguard and I just didn't get the sense of elite until a bit of the last few chapters? Whyyyy do we keep doing this to women? Why can't they be badass from page one?

I thought it was cute - a little too sugary light and sweet, and not my favorite book of hers. I just feel like it was a missed opportunity to really have a women shine in a male dominated industry.

Hannah has been having a rough time when she is assigned as a protection agent/bodyguard for movie star Jack. He hasn’t been in the spotlight for quite some time following the death of his little brother. Jacks mom was recently diagnosed with cancer and to keep his family out of the loop of why he needs protection, he asks Hannah to pretend to be his girlfriend. Shouldn’t be a problem right? But what happens when Hannah starts to really fall for him?

Please do not come for me booksta, but I did not love this book. It actually took me almost a week to finish it and I never take that long with romance novels. I could get past the little to no spice but there was like zero natural chemistry between the Mc’s in my opinion. I really liked the idea of this book. I mean a female bodyguard for a big movie star of a man, sounds golden. I wanted to love it so much so I am a bit disappointed. But I think my main issue here was the ending that felt like multiple endings that were kind of rushed into it for no reason.

Overall it was a nice heartfelt read but not for me. I still would recommend for those looking for a cute and light read. Thank you NetGalley, Katherine Center, and St. Martin’s Press for this galley copy in exchange for my honest review.

Great story!! Hannah, after losing her mother to cancer, then dumped by her boyfriend/work colleague, is assigned to be an Executive Protection Agent (a.k.a., bodyguard) to famous movie star Jack Stapleton.

The chemistry is sizzling, the humor is abundant, and I couldn't put the book down!!

Highly recommended!!

I was definitely intrigued by this book however the insta love just was not cutting it for me. I enjoyed the concept of the book. It was giving me “the proposal” vibe. I ended up listening to the audiobook and I honestly feel like it kept me more entertained than the book did. This was my first Katherine center book. I’d definitely try more of her books.

What a cute romcom of a female bodyguard protecting a male movie star. The bodyguard has come upon some bad luck with losing her mom, feeling I loved and having a terrible boyfriend when she’s placed on assignment to protect a popular movie star that has his share of problems too.

Thank you so much for the advanced copy of the Bodyguard! I am so mad at myself for not reading this sooner.
I sat here and read this book on one sitting. I was completely engrossed in the story and could not put it down.
I absolutely loved Hannah and her story. What a cool career for a chick too. Made me want to get into self defense classes.
Jack was well written and fleshed out perfectly. His parents were great side characters. (Just one question though, how did everything end up with his mom??)
Also BOBBY!!!!! What a JERK!!!
I will never stop raving about this book. Exactly what I was looking for.
Loved it loved loved it. Five stars.

If you are looking for a book that is well-written, charming, and fun, look no further! I devoured this in a day- I just couldn't tear myself away from it! The characters were well-rounded and I rooted for them all from the very first page.

If you only read one book this year, make it this one. It's escapism at its finest!
