I loved this book! It's well-written, enjoyable, and a great read. Dahlia Adler did a great job of writing in a way that captures the readers attention, and makes you not want to put it down until you're finished! I would highly recommend it!

I requested this book after enjoying Cool for the Summer. This one ended up being a little heavier than I expected, but that made me enjoy it all the more. I enjoyed the romance and the deep subjects touched upon. I always really appreciate it when an author finds a way to slip in the deep stuff in a way that still keeps the story flowing. I gave this one 3.5 stars.

I started this hoping for a cute, quick read romcom, and that was exactly what I got

While I do not care about sports at all (and did not understand any of the American football terms) that didn't pull my focus away from the story too much as the core of the plot was about the high school politics and the romance rather than the game itself

This is a really quick read, I absolutely flew through it and was a great first step into the trope of sports romances - and can we take a moment to appreciate the gorgeous cover??

Review: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Overall a cute sapphic high school romance. There are some trigger warnings for homophobia and misogyny but nothing graphic. I don't necessarily mind that kind of discussion, although I do tend to lean more towards "yay queer love that let's me have a fantasy of no lesbophobia, etc.," but not every book is going to be like that for sure. I like the writing style and characters. A few parts did drag a bit, but nothing egregious.

What a unique premise! And I loved the way the author was inspired by a photo she saw of two girls, one in a football uniform, and the other cheerleader. This book was really good, I love the characters in the story and how they both grew, but I wish there was a little bit less homophobia. That made it a difficult read so even though I’m rounding up my review to five stars, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this to everyone.

This was such a fun, romantic, joyful, REAL queer YA from Adler—I love her characters and voice, and this was such a lovely, sports-focused addition to her oeuvre.

I'm a huge Dahlia Adler fan & this book definitely delivers. A swoony romance set on the football field, which explores themes of acceptance, authenticity and standing up for what is right. There is such an authentic and lovable component to each of the characters, as well as strong chemistry. Again, huge fan of Adler and highly recommend this story.

Sincere thanks to NetGalley, St Martin's Press, & Wednesday Books for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

I think this is a case where this book is YA and I'm an adult and am not the target audience for the book. I think teens would really like this one, as it was cute and had a promising premise!

A great book. I didn't finish it, but that's nothing on the book, and everything on me. I think I was too depressed for a book that is so sad. I expected something light and breezy, but the MC is going through a lot. Between bullying and loneliness and being in the closet, it was just a rough read for me, but again, not the book's fault.

I think plenty of people love it, and rightly so.

This was a perfectly fine book. I’m struggling to rate it, but only because it’s not really my style.

I am feeling very torn about "Home Field Advantage:". On one hand, I was interested in the story and characters in it. On the other hand, the ending was rushed and I didn't truly feel any closure for any of the events. I wish some of the characters had more depth. I am rounding up from a 3.5 star rating because I did finish the rest of it in one sitting and stayed up late to finish it. I was invested in the story and characters but felt like something was missing.

*Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read and review this title. My opinions are my own*

Adler's a talented writer, but this book just wasn't for me. The voice feels perfect for the audience, but I've aged out of it.

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE is a cute YA LGBTQIA+ rom-com. Amber and Jack were cute, and everyone should have a friend like Miguel. It was a fun read.

Listen. I'm going to be very honest. I am not a sports girl. I didn't play them. I don't watch them. I don't really like reading about them. But damn if Dahlia Adler didn't make me care. Maybe not about sports, but definitely about these kids. This was such a warm, heartfelt read with very genuine stakes that made me worried for these characters. This was my first read from Adler, but it certainly won't be my last.

CW: homophobia, bribing, threats of forced outing, threats of assault, teen pregnancy, pregnancy loss, drunk driving car accident leading to death before the story begins

I know I'm late in submitting this review through NetGalley, but I stand by my initial review on Goodreads: There was SO much time spent laughing and yelling “AWW” while reading this book. So cute. So funny. So very worth the read. This book is the book that made me fall in love with Dahlia Adler. The complexity of her characters, the diversity involved, but also the nuance she uses to portray the various aspects of sexuality and gender identity. Bonus points for characters with ketchup obsessions. Honestly though, I couldn't recommend this enough for readers who are new to sapphic YA or veterans like me who have read everything but felt like this was a first. I rated this book 4 out of 5 stars, with a splotch of ketchup on the side.

A solid, perfect Pride Month read. Dahlia Adler always delivers with a full characters, angst, and a very intersectional read. Home Field Advantage was rough to read at times, because the bullying, homophobia, and ostracism was described with painful accuracy. The weariness that the characters feel at having to battle everyday to be their true selves is visceral. That’s both the hardest and best part of this book. You can’t come out of it without feeling the pain and humiliation and determination that Jack feels.

I loved the sass of Amber, how sarcastic Jack was, and how they fit together. I’m grateful for the work done to make the boom realistic but I could see so much how this kind of behaviour could spiral on kids.

Aside from that, I loved how much credence was given to cheer as a sport, and the interplay of friendship vs loyalty. The grand gesture in this one was so so good.

A very strong read and one I’m particularly glad to have read in June. Pick it up if you’re looking for a 2SLGBTQIA+ book. It’s worth it.

This was a slight letdown for me, mostly because I was so excited for the book because I loved the premise. I did like the plot but the characters seemed to fall flat. The story didn't seem as authentically queer as I was hoping

This was awesome! A sapphic love story between a cheerleader and a quarterback?
Yes please!
Amber & Jack are so stinking cute, and Jack is now one of my favourite fictional characters!
There is a lot of garbage dealt with in this book.
Felt like I was reliving high school in the 90's with all the derogatory bits thrown around.
As much as I loved the romance portion of this (& want to be best friends with Jack), I think Cara was my favourite portion of the book.
Her emotional growth is kind of amazing, and gives me hope for the rest of the world.
Much love to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press & Wednesday Books for my ARC.

I was given an ARC of this book from NetGalley (I must of forgotten to post my review last year).

I love Dahlia Adler's writing. She's one of the auto-buy authors for me.

This book gave me all the feels for being a sports romance. I don't read a lot of sports romances. But this book changed my mind about the Sports Romance sub-genre. Jack and Amber are super cute together. The plot had great laugh out loud moments and also so many sweet moments.

Jack being a newcomer to the school and being the only female on the football team added a layer of complications to the plot but it makes for a great read.

It was a perfect read for pride month as well.

What an adorable book! I am a big Dahlia Adler fan. This was slow going in the beginning, but picked up the pace about 10% in. I really liked the tension between Amber and Jack, though I felt like the romance was a bit rushed. The two POVs really added to the tension, and there were great side characters. I loved that it was about football and cheerleading in a small conservative Florida town, with all the homophobia to go along with that. Overall, it was a fun easy read. Thank you to Wednesday Books and NetGalley for the advanced e-copy.
