Absolutely loved this latest story from Jen Turano! I've really been looking forward to reading Eunice's story and boy, was it worth the wait. Eunice is one of my favorite characters from the Bleeker Street series and I was glad to see that her story was just as interesting as I hoped. The banter between her and Arthur was brilliantly written and truly fun to read. In fact, I liked the banter so well I was a little sad towards the end when it dropped off a lot. But the love story made up for the loss of continual snappy conversation so I guess it balanced out in the end. Jen has such a talent for bringing together previously featured characters in a series to blend well with those of focus in the current story. The interaction of Eunice, Daphne and Judith with Arthur was hysterical and I loved watching them rout his every chauvinist argument. Add in Eunice's mother to the mix and you have a story that is guaranteed to make you laugh, swoon and, quite possibly, scream in frustration at the stubbornness of some characters (I'm looking at you, Arthur!). Definitely add this one to your TBR now, its one you won't want to miss!

“Considering she’d once shot the man sitting across from her, Eunice Holbrook was beginning to get the sneaking suspicion her past had finally caught up with her.”

From the first sentence, I knew I’d be hooked by Jen Turano’s newest book, To Disguise the Truth. I’ve been eagerly awaiting Eunice’s story since I began reading this series, and I was definitely not disappointed. Eunice is courageous, intelligent, creative, and keeping herself hidden behind her “widow’s weeds” and “weeping veils.” When Arthur Livingston appears at the Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency wanting to hire them to find a missing heiress, he’s met his match with the mysterious Eunice—in more ways than one.

Filled with Turano’s signature humor and dry wit, this tale is a delightful and captivating adventure from start to finish. Turano is a master at creating colorful, intriguing characters and plopping them down in amusing, intriguing situations. She then proceeds to extract them from those situations with hilarious results. With adventure, suspense, a dash of romance, and a whole lot of humor, this book was a delight to read and a wonderful conclusion to the series.

It has been quite a while since I read a Jen Turano book and it was so much fun to dive back into one. So, I picked up To Disguise the Truth, and even though it is book three in the series, I had no trouble enjoying this story even though I had not read the previous two novels.

As with all of this author’s works, there was plenty of humor, but I especially liked the witty dialogue between Arthur and Eunice all through the book. I really enjoyed learning their backstory and watching as they got to know each other again in this novel.

There were so many interesting settings in this book, too, and although humor flowed throughout the novel, there was also deeper subject material, such as they way women were treated in insane asylums back in that time period. The faith message and romance was also very natural to the story.

This novel was a lot of fun to read, especially the second half of it, when so many twists and turns began to come to light and the author wove everything together into a truly satisfying happily ever after.

Delightful! I am so sorry to see this series come to an end because it's been my favorite of Jen Turano's so far! And that's saying something.

Eunice Holbrooke has been an intriguing mystery from the moment we met her in book 1. And her story did not disappoint!

The moment Arthur Levingston steps into her inquiry agency, Eunice knows her past has caught up with her. Though she is intrigued why it is in the form of Arthur Levingston and why he is so determined to find a missing heiress (aka Eunice), considering the last time they saw each other she shot him. But as the layers the secrets held by the Mason family thicken, Eunice sees she must once and for all face her shadows in order to come fully into light without fear.

Considering this is a Jen Turano novel, you can expect the perfect mix of witty banter, humor, and heartaching camaraderie. As I arrived at the last pages of the novel, I kept making alist of character Turano could wright a spin-off series of :)

#BookReview: TO DISGUISE THE TRUTH by Jen Turano

I always expect a good laugh from Jen Turano’s books and this one didn’t disappoint. I think this is my favorite so far from the series. It’s the third book but each one can be read as a standalone.

As the head of the agency, I thought Eunice was unique and smart. Garbed in deep mourning attire, she had an eerie and intriguing air around her. Arthur Livingston’s need to hire the agency would slowly unravel Eunice’s past as well as her family’s secrets. So many secrets and blackmail. I didn’t expect some of the revelations about Eunice or Eugenia or Sunshine. Well, depending on who you talk to.

I was not a fan of Arthur. As per Judith’s assessment, he was an insensitive person. I do enjoy the banter and witty conversations between Arthur and Eunice. He later one won my favor as well as Eunice’s. The secondary character’s love stories were delightful and sweet, especially Ivan’s. It was nice to revisit Daphne and the other ladies from the agency.

I like how this story gave light to mental illness and the need to provide a better facility for them. The incident at the asylum was funny. The patient’s stories were sad.

If you want to read a historical romance set in the Gilded Age and the old west with mystery, suspense, family drama, Jane Austen lovers and a lady boxer, this one’s for you.

When a man arrives at the Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency, anxious to hire them to find a missing heiress, Eunice Holbrooke realizes her past has finally caught up with her . . . and that she may no longer be able to hide under the disguise that has kept her safe for so long.
Arthur Livingston's goal in life is to make his mark on the world as a mining industrialist, but after the man who could help him achieve his goal is murdered, Arthur feels compelled to seek justice for the family--but he's left with more questions than answers after the eccentric Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency refuses to take on his case.
Desperate to conceal her real identity and avoid the irritatingly handsome Arthur, Eunice takes on a different case that requires her to go deep undercover and entangles her in one troublesome situation after another. When other secrets come to light, Eunice has no choice but to confront her past, hopeful that it will set her free but knowing it could very well place her life--and the lives of those she loves--in jeopardy.
Arthur and Eunice are meant to be.
From the time that Arthur stepped foot in the Bleeker Street Inquiry Agency to find missing heiress Eunice Holbrooke it was patently clear that there was a chance he would know the truth.
This is a funny and awesome story! I have read books by the author before but this is the best one yet.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

To Disguise the Truth by Jen Turano is the last book in the series. However it read well as a stand alone as i had not read the other books. But i am already going back to find them. Especially Daphne’s; she sounds like a very fun character.

Arthur has come to the Bleeker Street Inquiry Agency for their help to find a missing Heiress. They refuse to help him. This whole scene was so much fun. Jen writes with humor, mystery and romance. Such an enjoyable read.

Eunice has been hiding under widow weeds. She thought it was working until Arthur showed up. I loved how each of the ladies were skilled.

This is just the type of book i want to read as I am dealing with all the negativity in the world right now. It was such an enjoyable read and a great escape. Jen created characters that you fall in love with and cheer for.

Sexual content - 1 kissing
Violence - someone is trying to killer her to get her inheritance, and the conditions at the asylum are disturbing and sad.
no language or drinking

This is an incredibly funny historical romantic comedy novel!

I love both of the main characters. Eunice and Arthur are extremely well developed. The way they interacted with each other at the beginning of the book completely cracked me up. Their conversation went in circles and it took definite effort to follow it.

I loved seeing the two couples from the previous books and how their lives were progressing. I was thrilled to see the expected cast of quirky characters. Jen Turano does a remarkable job of developing them for each book. It was also fun to see what animal was included in a central role.

The plot was fantastic. When all of the Mason family secrets were coming out I was amazed that there were so many within one family.

us tone throughout, bringing you improbable, but entertaining stories. Eunice's story is intriguing, with an unexpected past and unexpected redemption. Shining a light on the injustices of the insane asylum system of the day alongside an enlightening tale of family manipulations Turano covers a lot of ground with this novel, all the while making you smile with her trademark humor and a bit of romance. As expected, I enjoyed this novel and if you are looking for a humorous, but far from fluffy read, then I recommend the series to you.

"Considering she'd once shot the man sitting across from her, Eunice Holbrook was beginning to get the sneaking suspicion her past had finally caught up with her." And thus, the adventures of Eunice Holbrook, as she's currently known, and Arthur Livingston, the man she shot, begin anew. Eunice has started a new life for herself in New York, and enjoys running the Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency, completely separated from her past. Arthur is on a mission to find the woman he promised to protect, and ensure she is given the land and legacy that is rightfully hers.

I think this is my favorite Turano series so far - I love the quirky, unusual, female characters banded together at the Inquiry Agency. I love the banter between the main characters. And I love having a centralized series so that the characters continue to have their stories move forward even when they're not the main character. I'm really going to miss this group of women, and the men who've managed to be interesting enough to hold their own with them.

My only small issue with this story is how neatly and easily the "mystery" resolves, but it's not meant to be a suspenseful book, it's definitely a romance, and as such, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I received a digital copy of this book, via NetGalley, from the publisher, in exchange for my honest review.

I have been waiting for Eunice’s story and was not one bit disappointed. The highlight of this book, apart from the wit, comedy, and banter, is the romance! So many romantic storylines that complement the story of Eunice and Author. Eunice finally finds the courage to step into the truth and the freedom it brings, not realizing how many other lives will be touched in the process. The journey to discover the truth requires all the ladies of Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency and their various gifts and talents. Jen Turano has way of writing fun mysteries that leave a smile on my face while my mind races to keep up with the various twists, turns, and possibilities. I love that Truth wins and Eunice finally gets her happy ending. While you do not have to read the other books in the series first, it is fun to catch up on the other ladies that were introduced in the other books. I devoured this book in one setting because it was so much fun, entertaining, and a lighthearted escape that was desperately needed.

This is the third novel in the Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency series and features Eunice. She has a past and when Arthur wants to employ the agency to find a missing woman, Eunice realizes her past has caught up with her.

Turano writes with humor and there is a good deal of it in this novel. Eunice tries to hide her identity by wearing widow clothing. She even takes another case, requiring her to go under cover. There are some funny scenes and laugh out loud exchanges. I didn't find this novel as humorous as previous ones in the series but it is still good.

Characters are what make this story and Eunice is a capable one. She is feisty and has a witty tongue. I like the other women of the inquiry agency as they each have strong personalities and add to the drama and humor. I thought Arthur the weakest of the characters. It felt like he was sort of a foil for Eunice. There is, of course, a potential romance involved that seemed impossible. In the end, it seemed unrealistic too.

The novel got off to a bit of a puzzling start with a scene that seems a bit unrelated to the present. About thirty pages in we find out how that scene relates. I always like to learn about something when I read a novel, specially a historical one and in this case it was about insane asylums of the era.

This was a fun novel to read with a feisty heroine, a complex and nearly unbelievable romantic aspect and an old murder mystery for the inquiry women to solve.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

While I personally didn’t find To Disguise the Truth as hilarious as many of other books written by Jen Turano (there were still plenty of parts that had me smiling as I read), I was not at all disappointed in the story. And this one puts you right in the middle of it as Eunice’s past comes to her door.

Arthur and Eunice are a good match for each other. They’re both intelligent and have some understanding of the other person’s opinions. There isn’t a discrepancy in their wealth, and they are both surrounded by some memorable people. Arthur’s grandfather and brother add as much fun to the story as the ladies at the Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency do.

This book has so many reveals, it’s hard to put down until every question and mystery is solved. It was fun to catch up with Daphne, Ann, Cooper, Phillip, and many more characters I’ve met over the course of the series and Turano wrapped everything up with a perfect bow by the end.

To Disguise the Truth is a very entertaining read. The Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency is full of quite the cast of characters. I haven’t read all of the prior books, and while reading them would definitely add to the background of the other characters, I felt like this can be read as a stand alone novel.

I enjoyed the humor and mystery throughout the story. The resolution came about a bit too easily though once people were in Montana. That said, I’d still read more in this series.

Inspirational Christian historical romance where you'll laugh till you cry and get very attached to these people. Eunice owns the Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency in New York City and is the woman hiding under widows' weeds in previous books. Now we get to learn her story. Their agency takes on cases that no one else will take on, mostly women.
Arthur comes in knowing that this agency, celebrated for solving unusual and complicated cases, can find the woman he had been searching for since the day her grandfather was killed in Montana. Eunice knew she could solve the case immediately but refused to take it on. Each of the "agents" are capable of doing deep research and very persistent. There are mysteries to be solved and facts to be uncovered to find out who killed the girl's grandfather seven years before - and was probably out to murder her as well. When the girl learns that she's about to be declared dead to steal her inheritance, she has to come out of hiding.
These girls are members of wealthy families yet devoted to helping those without and making their lives better. Eunice even goes undercover in an insane asylum, shining light on the horrible conditions there, as Nellie Bly also had done and later wrote about. Very interesting people, some hilarious situations and scenes that will tug on your heart strings. Great read for the romantic who wants strong women and a bit of slapstick in their stories. Jen Turano never disappoints!

Humorous situations, that I’ve come to expect from this author, filled the pages of this latest adventure. I really enjoyed Eunice in the other books so reading her full story was a pleasure. Arthur was a great match for her. Eunice was intelligent and daring. I loved her no-nonsense approach to life. She was also a romantic which you would think would be at odds with her personality, but it softened her just right. Arthur was a true industrialist in attitude, but Eunice brought out the softer side of him. I found his loyalty very appealing.

I received this book complimentary as a member of the author’s launch team. I was not required to give a positive review. All of the opinions I have expressed here are honest and my own.

Jen's done it again! Her books never DISAPPOINT and this one is spectacular. Between the characters Jen creates, the mystery angle in each story and the superb humor contained in every book, her books are always at the top of my reads list. Eunice and Arthur are fun characters and extremely likeable and along with the cast of secondary characters make for quite a fun story. I also really enjoyed the secondary mystery and the elements that brings to the story. The way the puzzle pieces of the mystery come together is fantastic and the ending is lovely. If you like historical fiction, fantastic humor, and a fun mystery, don't miss a Jen Turano novel!

Light-hearted fun with a good mystery and a touch of romance, that is To Disguise the Truth in a nutshell. I love following up a serious or intense read with a Jen Turano novel. They are refreshing and uplifting, and To Disguise the Truth is no exception. While one would likely enjoy it as a stand alone read, it will be more thoroughly enjoyed by reading the previous two books in the series and familiarizing oneself with the quirky characters.

Set in the Gilded Age of the late 1800s, it is unusual to find an inquiry (detective) agency owned and fully-staffed by women. These women take a unique approach to their cases, and this time maybe more so because the client is one of their own. Eunice Holbrook has hidden behind widow's weeds and veils for seven years, despite never having been widowed. Now it is time to emerge and discover the identity of her grandfather's murderer.

"Considering she'd once shot the man sitting across from her, Eunice Holbrooke was beginning to get the sneaking suspicion her past had finally caught up with her" (location 58). What an intriguing start! When Arthur shows up to hire the Bleeker Street Inquiry Agency to find someone near and dear to them, the ladies can't think of enough ways to get rid of him. The antics they pulled and their dizzying conversations were so fun since we were in on the secret.

Eunice has always been mysterious as she goes around in her widow's weeds. It was great to finally learn her story and what a story it was. It was complex and dangerous. If she decides to finally make sense of it all, it could well mean her life and the life of her loved ones. Yet there's a cost to doing nothing as well. It was a great story full of family secrets and revelations, twists and turns. I loved it!

Turano does a great job of adding humor and adorable quirkiness to her books. I also appreciate that others from past books show up and have a role to play. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.

Thank you to Bethany House for providing me with a free copy of this book. I'd highly recommend it! All opinions are my own.

I loved this read, and was happy to be back at The Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency, and what a joy this read was.

Keep turning the pages as we voluntarily enter an insane asylum, oh my, but never saw what happens coming! Then when we head to Montana, you, no I can't tell you, but surprises abound, and I loved this read. Only part I disliked was turning the last page, but we were gifted with an epilogue!

This wasn't my first by this author, nor will it be my last!
