This is my first book by Julie Weaver, but it won't be my last. This was an enjoyable story with heat, passion, twists, thrills and more. Well written the story evolved well and kept me turning the pages.

I hope the rest of the series is this enjoyable. I thought the plot was interesting, engaging and fast-paced. Cam & Shep are perfect compliments to each other. Their initial meeting is a hoot. I enjoyed the twists and turns this story took, and I look forward to the next book.

Shep was military, special forces with Team Zulu; now he is a contract assassin. His latest assignment is to kill Cameron. The last thing he expected was to find that Cameron was an innocent woman and she is being targeted because her brother has run a foul of the mob and she is just collateral damage. Shep has killed enough that he doesn’t mind ridding the world of more garbage, but an innocent woman is another story. Shep does the most impulsive thing he has ever done, he kidnaps Cameron and attempts to hide her from the mob. Cameron is strong, hardworking and very loyal to her bother. Now, if Shep can only confidence Cameron he has no intention of hurting her.

I highly recommend if you’re a fan of romantic suspense.

This book was fast paced and kept you flicking through the pages! It had a strong storyline with lots of twists and turns.
It is a typical boy can’t do relationship but then falls in love book which I usually get bored of but this book had a nasty mafia boss chasing them down at the same time.
I would recommend this book and would love to read the rest in the series.

This was a fast paced book that read like an action movie with car chases and shoot out scenes. I liked the gutsiness of Cam however, I wished her profession as an auto mechanic had more of a role in the story. Shep was a yummy alpha hitman with a conscience. I had to question the location of Shep’s supposed hideout that was in a remote location of the Appalachian mountains. Supposedly if Cam escaped she would be lost forever. However it was only a 20 minute drive to town. I enjoyed the steamy chemistry between the main characters. This is the first book by this author for me and I will be looking out for future stories!

First off I would like to start off by stating that in the past I have always avoided romance stories where one of the main characters works for the mob, so this is a first for me. It came so highly recommended though, that I decided to give it a try and am so glad that I did, because it was totally worth it. This is the first book that I have read by Julie Weaver and I can’t wait to read another. She is truly a gifted writer. The Hit is just like it sounds it is about a hit man who accepts a hit from the mob, but when he realizes that it is on an innocent young woman, he just can’t bring himself to follow through with it. He decides that instead of taking her life he is going to save it, but his method is unconventional to say the least and of course it doesn’t go according to his plan either. I absolutely fell in love with the two main characters Shep aka the hit man and Cam. I couldn’t help but root for them after their very first entertaining interaction. I loved how Cam was such a feisty character and not a helpless damsel. She always fought with everything that she had and never relied solely on Shep to protect her. I loved how not only does Shep save Cam’s life, but Cam helps save Shep’s as well, but will they live happily ever after? Read their story to find out.
I highly recommend this book for lovers of romantic suspense. This is the first story in the Team Zulu series and I can’t wait to read the next one.

REVIEW

The Hit by Julie Weaver
Team Zulu Series #1

Loved it from beginning to end ~ Could not put it down!

What I liked:
* Cameron McKenzie: sister, mechanic, muscle car aficionado, bright, strong, caring, goes with the flow, more capable than she knows, communicates thoughts and feelings
* Elias “Shep” Shepherd: retired military special forces, ruthless, lethal, hitman – wrote about him that he is a “hitman with a heart of gold”, really liked him.
* Ranger: Shep’s dog…and he is a great one
* The decision Shep made regarding the hit he was given at the beginning of the book
* Cam’s concern for her brother in spite of his behaviour
* Tom: Cam’s boss and someone that might have his own intriguing story
* Ben & Sage: was up and down with them but am eager to read their story in book two of the series
* Kane: he will show up in book three with Freya and though I haven’t met his woman look forward to reading their story
* The resolution of the situation and how the relationship between Cam and Shep worked out by the end of the book
* The writing, plot, and locations
* Knowing that there will be more books to look forward to
* Reading a new-to-me author that I look forward to reading again.

What I didn’t like:
* Franky Russo: Mafia kingpin, ruthless, conscienceless, egocentric, rather a horrible man
* Franky’s men met in this book
* The reason the hit was made and thinking about how it probably happens more often than we realize

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely

Thank you to NetGalley and Epic Press for the ARC – This is my honest review.

5 Stars

This book definitely walks that morality chain line. Shep is an assassin - and although he does seem to have fairly high standards, he is a hitman who works for the mafia. When he accepts a contract to kill Cameron - he is shocked to find out not only is she a woman but also an innocent bystander to her brother's bad decisions. So - to keep her safe - Shep basically kidnaps Cameron and takes her to his backwoods home.

Cameron knows that her brother struggles with substance abuse, but had no idea how bad his decisions had become in relation to that. She's a mechanic and an all around normal, good person. She does not (with good reason) have any reason to trust Shep or believe what he is saying. But as the danger level around them goes up - she and Shep get closer and build on the connection between them.

After reading this book I am very interested to know more about the team Shep was on - and see where things go. The other characters introduced towards the end of the book were very interesting too! I loved Shep and the line he was so diligently walking - and Cameron was delight in all the best ways. The way she acted and reacted was completely relatable.

Overall - a very enjoyable, action-packed romantic suspense.

I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

Who wouldn’t love to be rescued by a hot, strong, and muscled hitman?! Cam and Shep may have started off on the wrong page but I absolutely LOVED watching their story unfold. I had a hard time putting this book down with all action and streamy moments! I definitely needed more of those moments. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!

THE HIT is the first full-length instalment in Julie Weaver’s contemporary, adult TEAM ZULU romantic suspense series focusing on the former members of an undercover Black Ops Unit known as Team Zulu. This is thirty-six year old, former US Special Forces soldier Elias ‘Shep’ Shepherd, and twenty-seven year old, auto mechanic Cameron McKenzie’s story line.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be trigger for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Shep and Cam) THE HIT follows in the wake of a contract kill against our story line heroine. Cameron McKenzie’s brother stole from the mob, and Cameron is about to pay for her brother’s sins. Hitman Elias ‘Shep’ Shepherd, doesn’t kill woman and children, having lived through fifteen years of service in the Middle East. His latest target is Cameron McKenzie, the woman with whom Shep would fall in love. On the run together, trying to stay one step ahead of the Mafia, Shep and Cam find themselves playing house but someone ratted out our couple, and Cam finds herself facing the possibility of losing everyone she loves. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Shep and Cam, and the potential fall-out as their time together comes to a close.

Cameron McKenzie is a feisty, sassy, no nonsense heroine who tries everything to free herself from her sexy captor. Cam has always known her brother was trouble but his latest act of defiance finds our heroine with a target on her back but when hitman for hire Elias ‘Shep’ Shepherd takes Cameron hostage, she has no idea that time spent together meant losing her heart to a killing machine. Hoping to get the woman with whom he is falling in love to safety, Shep calls in a favor, a favor that is about to expose our couple to their possible demise.

The relationship between Cameron and Shep is an enemies to lovers; a contracted hit against our story line heroine, one in which our assassin grows a conscience in the face of killing a woman who has done nothing wrong. On the run in the Appalachian mountains, Cameron and Shep’s relationship ups to the next level, but Shep knows their time together will eventually come to a close. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Cameron’s embattled brother Justin, and her boss Tom; Team Zulu members -former US Navy Seal Kane Daniels, and Brandon aka Ben. The requisite evil has many faces including Mafia boss Franky Russo. Brandon and Sage’s story line is next.

THE HIT is a story of betrayal and revenge, family and friendships, acceptance and love. The fast paced, action packed premise is edgy and intense; the romance is provocative and intimate; the characters are energetic, and impassioned.

Three and a half stars rounded to four for this enemies to lovers, mafia rescue, morally grey hitman with a conscience romance.

Elias “Shep” Shepherd accepts a hit Mafia contract, he doesn’t know his mark is a woman. He doesn't hurt kids, or women. Especially not this one. Auto mechanic Cameron McKenzie ends up as a mafia target due to her brother's very bad life choices. She ends up kidnapped for her own protection and whisked away by Shep to a secluded cabin until he can get her affairs in order to have her death faked and get her out of the country to start a new life. But love has other ideas, and the mafia is about to figure out Shep's secret plan.

A good, easy afternoon read. Good steam, a mysterious man, a strong willed woman. It was a fun, trope filled romance that is very enjoyable. It is a straightforward romance that die hard readers will love.

A good start to what I am sure will be an interesting series, I’m certainly tied in to the future characters already.

Well set out in terms of the characters I liked both of them. Cam was strong and independent with her only weak spot being her brother whose repeated missteps put her in danger.

Shep was a little more mysterious but I liked that the story delved deep into why that was and brought him a little more to life.

I did struggle with them as a couple a little to begin with and couldn’t really point to when feelings for either changed which was hard for me. Their introduction and his initial treatment of her was so easily forgotten and suddenly they were pretty much in a relationship.

I also felt that the whole team Zulu thing was odd, I didn’t feel the whole “team” thing was fleshed out and I thought more could have been made of that, it seems like a group of loners who once worked together from this book…

Regardless the storyline was strong and interesting and I enjoyed reading this book

The hit by Julie Weaver.
Team zulu book 1.
Former member of Team Zulu, a clandestine black operations unit, Elias “Shep” Shepherd believes the only use he has nowadays is taking out human scum on home soil. After years of harrowing military deployments, the one place he finds peace is at his remote Appalachian Mountain cabin, far from civilians and the world he doesn’t fit in anymore.
This was a good read. I liked Cameron, Newman and Tom I wasn't sure about Justin i liked Shep and Kane. I liked the ending. 4*.

For a brand new author, she sure hit it out of the park with this first book! Elias “Shep” Shepherd is an assassin for hire and a former member of Team Zulu. The only place he finds peace is on his mountain. And when he is handed a contract for Cameron McKenzie, he doesn't expect her to be not only a woman but the sexiest woman he has ever seen. Something about her gets to him, and instead of performing the hit-he decides he will do whatever is necessary to protect her. Cam knows after one glance that the man who has taken her is capable of killing her. But she isn't afraid to fight for herself, even if she loses that fight. But when he takes her to his mountain in an attempt to protect her, she starts seeing things beneath the surface that he shows the world. And realizes that there is much more to him than meet's the eye.

I absolutely loved this story. Right from the start I was hooked and couldn't stop reading it. Shep comes across at first as this man that has shut off his feelings. But he really hadn't, he has just buried them in an effort to protect himself. And there is so much more to him than just being a hired killer. He has this protective and caring side that he just doesn't show to people, and I loved everything about him! Cam is this super tough woman who isn't afraid to fight for not only herself but others as well. But she is also caring and sweet with this compassion that you can't help but love her as well. The story is fast paced and intriguing all while pushing the reader to realize that there is more to people than what they show on the surface-and that everyone is not only capable of love but can be deserving of it as well. I absolutely loved this story and can't wait to see what else this author writes!

A unique and fun beginning to this series. Elias “Shep” Shepherd has moved on from Team Zulu and his military service to become a paid “hit man”. When he receives his current “job” he has no idea that the person he is to eliminate is a woman, an innocent, targeted only because of the actions of her brother. He refuses to complete the job, kidnaps her to keep her safe and takes her to his home. His story as to why the Wolf Street mafia wants her dead is incredible, unbelievable. As she lives in his home, she begins to know the real Shep and yes, he has killed, but she sees the man who served his country faithfully for fifteen years. What will happen when the mafia learns that Cameron is still alive? The only way to guarantee her safety is for him to eliminate those who want her dead and he must try, as he has discovered that she means more to him than his own life. I look forward to the next books in this series. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)

Elias Shepard a former member of the special forces and black operations unit, is now a hit man for the highest bidder. When Cameron Mckenzie becomes his next hit he figures it’ll be the same as always until his eyes lock onto a sexy grease clad women who calls to him like no other, unfortunately for him his dream women also happens to be Cameron his mark and an innocent.

Car mechanic Cameron gets a call from her wayward brother telling her to run and that she’s in danger, thinking her brother has failed his rehab she ignores him. Until she comes face to face with a hitman hired to kill her bus has instead decided to protect her. Abducted from her home and hidden in the mountains an intense attraction builds between the mechanic and the hitman but trouble in the form of the mafia are soon to catch up to the pair.

I liked the story but for me I didn’t feel the strong attraction between Cam and Shepard until moments before they slept together for the first time and then I felt that the chemistry was there. The book was faced paced and full of action throughout and was an easy book to read, the action at the end was perfect and made the whole book in my opinion and I really loved the dog!!

*I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in return for my honest review.*

Great Read!
This is my first time reading anything by this author but it won’t be the last! Ms Weaver writes about my favorite type of heroines, the ones that fight back and don’t take things lying down. Shep is a lost soul, he is looking for someplace to fit, he is an alpha but not unreasonable. The characters were so well written they jumped off the page, you could feel Sheps dilemma. I will be reading more
