4.5⭐

The Hit brilliantly introduces readers to author Julie Weaver and the extremely well-written Team Zulu series with a story that grabs you from the start and never lets go.

As a former special ops soldier and Team Zulu member turned hit man decides not to kill his latest target, but take her hostage only she's not too keen on that idea.

And what follows is an exciting, lively, and suspenseful story. That features strong characters, plenty of chemistry and a romance that perfectly builds as Shep and Cam go from being hit man and hostage to so much more.

Would definitely recommend, and I can't wait for more Team Zulu books in the future.

Shep and Cam are what romantic suspense is all about. Characters who are strong and easy to like and add in a fast paced, action filled story that just pulls the reader along. Who doesn't love an enemies to lovers trope ? I admit Shep isn't really Cams enemy but his position certainly makes him take stock and with the frequent challenges that Cam provides he certainly needs to not underestimate her.
I had fun reading this and will certainly look out for more by this author because as this ends there are characters introduced who I'd love to know more about. My only niggle is that I just didn't totally understand Cam's brother as although older than her and supposedly previously her rock he reads here as perhaps younger and more juvenile. However I did still enjoy this first book and look forward to reading more of this series.

This was a wonderful book that I couldn’t put down till I finished it! Cameron is a mechanic who is worried about her brother since he isn’t answering his phone. Then her brother calls her and tells her she needs to leave town now. Little did she know that there was a man already coming for her. He took the hit to kill Cameron. Little did Shep know that Cameron is an innocent and a woman not a man. He decides to say he completed the job and take her to his house off the grid in the middle of nowhere. Cameron is a very fierce girl who is going to fight for her freedom and try to find her brother. In the process she falls hard for Shep and his dog Ranger. They will work together to stay alive and fight for their relationship. I can’t wait to read the next book about Ben!

The first book in the Team Zulu series just happens to set a high bar for Julie Weaver to keep bringing her A game when writing her Team Zulu series.

The author writes a female lead who is strong without being mean and is able to take care of herself but accepting help and isn't the stupid I can do it than get caught female. The male lead loves her and accepts her. The story is what readers expect from Romantic Suspense series that seems to have all the bad guys that you can imagine.

The story flows well the characters are well developed with a well placed story. Thank you to Netgalley for a advance copy of The Hit By Julie Weaver.

**I received a copy of the book from Victory Editing Net Galley Co-op in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. My opinions are my own and not solicited in any way.**

The Hit by Julie Weaver is the first book in her Team Zulu series plus she's a new author and most definitely one to watch. I loved this book and can't wait for the next book to come out. Elias "Shep" Shepherd is former black ops for the Army and Cameron McKenzie is a strong heroine who can drop and engine and be snarky at the same time. But when the Philly mobster puts out a contract on her life, he calls in the best which is Shep he just didn't know its a woman so he'll have to decide does he or doesn't he? He knows that Cameron's brother stole something from the boss and won't tell him where it is. Can these two enemies to lovers hide long enough to find the drugs the boss wants or will they get caught and have to die just to prove their innocence? Can they make a future together on their mountain with Shep's dog Ranger or will it all end?

This was my first book by this author, and I am ever so glad she is now on my radar! This is book one in the Team Zulu series and focuses on a morally gray hitman, Shep, and his intended victim, Cameron. I loved this book. The plot was well planned out and the characters were well developed. The premise alone had me interested, but I loved seeing how Ms. Weaver played it all out.

Cam is an auto mechanic, who because her brother stole from the Mafia, has a hit out on her. The hitman who accepted the contract is Shep. Instead, he takes her to his remote cabin where the enemies to lovers figure things out. To put it bluntly, Cam did not quietly and fights Shep at every turn, which is exactly how I think I would react in the same situation. The trust between them came very slowly and methodically. There is so much heat and delicious tension, that I was dying for these two to act on their feelings. I also loved that we were introduced to the two heroes of upcoming books and really enjoyed how this story unfolded.

I don't often give 5 star reviews because. for me, a story has to hit me in all the feels and keep me hooked, which this book absolutely did.

The tropes are definitely enemies to lovers, protector/protectee and forced proximity.

I am very much looking forward to Ben and Sage's story, which is next in the series.

Shep his is a hired killer, he is ex-military and feels like its the only thing he is trained to do. He believes he "taking out the trash" since he only kills bad people . Cam is a hardworking mechanic, she enjoys her job and the shop she works at. If she could change one thing in her life it would be for her brother to get his life together and stop using drugs and getting into trouble. Unfortunately Cam's life quickly unravels when she finds herself kidnapped by Shep instead of being killed. Cam and Shep are interesting, you really want to like Shep but its hard when you know he is killer and he tells Cam about all the people he has killed and she is just a really nice hardworking person.

At first I wanted to stop reading this story I just wasn't feeling it but I committed to it and stuck it out, and I'm happy I did. Shep is a very complex character and by the end I sort of got him and where he was coming from. I'm happy I read this story and I will pick up the next one in this series.

Fun romance between two people who's lives should never have crossed so it must have been fate! I loved the cover and blurb drew my eye.

What did I like? This was an easy read and the spark between Shep and Cam really sneaks up on you. They're trying so hard to stay alive that you almost miss the romance. When Cam’s brother gets into hot water he pulls his sister into the crossfire. She is forced to clean up the mess! An easy four stars.

Would I recommend or buy? This was a good read but the middle part dragged a bit. Cam’s brother really threw her to the wolves but she didn't give up on him. If your into military suspense then you'll love this.

I received a complimentary ARC to read and voluntarily left a review.

The Hit was my first experience reading Ms. Weaver's work but it won't be the last -- I loved everything about this read. Cameron and Shep's characters were so well developed that I felt every emotion in every scene. Their chemistry was off the charts, but it was their emotional connection that I really "felt" deep in my heart. Shep is a former Black Ops member who lives a solitary life until he takes on a contract to kill Cameron. I wouldn't characterize this as a "mafia" story per se even though it has those elements. It's 100% romantic suspense that kept my on the edge of my seat practically the entire time I was reading! The story flows really well and she does an excellent job of keeping it moving at the perfect pace. Cameron is a muscle car mechanic with a whole lot of strength, physically and mentally. I loved her character and her spunk! These two had tons of heat between them that jumped off the pages. I loved everything about this book and look forward to more from Julie Weaver. A very enjoyable 5-star read. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for Netgalley.
