This book reminded me exactly why I feel in love with this series and Gina Harte. I have had a few misses but then comes a book like this and I am once again totally hooked to the series.

Some one is setting people on fire by lighting up their houses at night and leaving a calling card behind. The crimes are chilling and they seem to escalate so fast. In addition, they seem to target a group of friends. I had so many questions right from the start. Who is the unsub and why are they going after this group? What is the connection? Gina and her team had similar questions and I enjoyed watching them put pieces of the puzzle together.

In this installment, Gina is also going through some very tense moments in her personal life. I was so nervous for her wondering if she will be able to out run her past.

This is a great crime thriller that reminded me why I love this genre and this series. Fast-paced, intriguing and captivating, I absolutely enjoyed this installment.

Gina Harte is a class apart when it comes to detective series! I have loved the entire series so far and the 10th book - Her Dying Wish is no different. A difficult case with the threat of her past looming too close for comfort has Gina all tied up both professionally and personally. To go through both and come out in the end as she did would take a superhero, so that is just what she is! Gina's had a very difficult life but has come a long way from it but with every case she's ever faced, the danger/guilt of the situation she was in has always hung over her mind & head. To see that fear personified was something new in this case! The plot itself was very interesting but the subplot of Gina's husband Terry's death was kind of never fully clear. This book changed that. The way she navigates through her main case, while also handling the shadow of the old case was gripping. Since the main plot included children it made it all the more tense for me. There were quite a few characters that I felt I had to keep up with but that made it more interesting. Some parts were surprising some shocking. But every chapter was a page turner. I hope there is some respite for my favourite detective in the next books!

Thank you, NetGalley, Bookouture & Carla Kovach for this arc!

This book is number 10 in the series. Although I havent read the other books , I easily read this as a standalone. It was filled with suspense and tension and I ended up not being able to put it down.

Tenth in the series featuring Detective Gina Harte. Another tense and exciting thriller delving into something that happened in the victims past. A good read.

This is the tenth book in the series featuring Detective Gina Harte and it certainly didn’t disappoint as it I is another tense and gripping thriller. After an argument with her husband Glen, Faith and her children go stay in a hotel. That night petrol is poured through the letterbox of their home and Glen is killed in the fire and a burning candle is left at the scene. Gina and her team are investigating the case and as Glen’s friends are also being targeted they realise that they are hiding an incident that happened years ago. When Gina discovers that one of the friends is the brother of her late husband Terry, Gina is replaced as leading officer. At the same time her past is catching up with her as a journalist is pursuing her insisting that he knows what happened when Terry died. This is another brilliant read in this series of books and I can’t wait for book number eleven.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Carla Kovach at her finest! This had me transfixed from the very off and kept me in its claws until the very last page.

I cant believe this is now book #10 in the Gina Harte series but this most definitely has been my favourite. They honesty just keep getting better.

Once again Gina and her team are called upon to investigate a strange case. This time a fatal arson attack where a single burning candle in a jar has been left behind on display. It soon becomes clear that a group of friends are being targeted, the question is why?

Whilst the investigation is underway Gina is also battling the unwanted attention from local journalist Pete Blocwich wanting to know about her husband Terry's death years previously. Is the past about to catch up with her?

The tale is told from different perspectives, one of them a young boy who is quite easy to determine early on but I found this a really great addition to the story.

In this installment we see, for the first time, Gina's life crumbling around her as her personal and professional life collide together and leave her on the edge. Will her secrets finally be revealed?

This is a real layered plot that just keeps giving. Arson attacks, missing child, unrelenting journalist.... what more do you want?

I do think its beneficial in this series to read the previous installments. They will give a better understanding of Gina's character and backstory.

*Trigger warning: this story contains abusive relationships, rage, murder, revenge and hatred of women*

Huge thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

Her Dying Wish is the tenth crime thriller novel in the Detective Gina Harte Series, by author Carla Kovach. Having enjoyed the previous novels in the series, I move on to book 10. The story is set in Worcestershire England.

Even though this novel worked well as a stand-alone, I would recommend other readers to read the previous books as they will be given background information on the characters in this book. A solid police procedural with engaging characters.

Trigger Warning: The book is about rape, abusive relationships, revenge, and murder.

In this book, DI Gina Harte’s professional and personal lives intercept, and she now struggles to deal with everything…a born strong survivor who is trying to keep all her secrets from coming out.

DI Gina Harte works homicides. Her team consists of: DS Jacob Driscoll, DC Harry O’Connor and DC Paula Wyre, with a lot of help from PC Smith and PC Kapoor.

Gina is harassed by journalist, Pete Bloxwich who is pursuing her over the death of her husband Terry many years ago. Terry’s mother Hetty and brother Stephen are behind the article, claiming that Gina didn’t call for an ambulance soon enough, after Terry’s fall. They never believed Gina when she described how Terry was abusive and used to beat her when he was drunk. Bloxwich says he wants to tell her side of the story but she thinks this will ruin her career. Only her boss, DCI Chris Briggs, who she is involved with on an on/off relationship, knows that she did not save him when he fell to his death many years ago.

At the same time Gina and her team are investigating a fatal arson attack.

An abusive husband, Glen Chapman dies in a house fire that was deliberately set, while his wife Faith is staying at a hotel with the kids. She had left him a few days before the fire.

Then the same thing happens to another of their friends, Cameron and Kerstin Godwill, but Kerstin woke up and scared off the attacker. The following night the attack was successful and resulted in Cameron’s death as his wife and family were safe in another location.

But when they discover a child is missing, the whole case takes another turn.

Time is running out and the longer the child is missing, the less chance he will be found alive.

The ending is bittersweet and one that I didn’t see coming. The title for the novel becomes more apparent in the final pages.

Many thank to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for my digital copy.

DI Gina Harte is investigating a fire that has resulted in the death of the homeowner. At the same time, she is also fending off the questions from a local reporter who is determined to discover the “truth” behind her husband’s accidental death.

Her Dying Wish is the tenth book in the Detective Gina Harte series and it doesn’t disappoint. The plot is interesting and multi-layered, with a diverse cast of characters. The writing is crisp, with a nice pace throughout the story. Gina’s issues with her husband’s family and the interest surrounding his death adds another dimension to an already enjoyable book. I’m looking forward to reading more books by Ms Kovach.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a copy of this book for review.

#HerDyingWish #NetGalley Oh! What a cracker!! I adore this series and this book is the best so far. Fast paced with so much action on each page that I just didn't want to put it down. It is perfectly capable as being read as a standalone but it will help the readers enjoyment to know more about the back story of Gina. As well as the race against time to find 2 missing children, Gina and her team must also discover who the arsonist is and Gina has to deal with an obnoxious journalist who is threatening to expose parts of Gina's past that she would rather remain hidden. A superb read. A well deserved 5 stars and I can't wait for the next installment in this series!

I am now officially a Gina Harte addict. I think I came late to the party on Carla's books but I'm now there and want every one of them. I missed the first 3 in this series but don't think that is a problem.

This latest one was a brilliant read as always.
Gina is investigating an arson attack where someone died. and we soon find out there is a serial arsonist - no spoilers from me.
Absolutely brilliant as usual and 5 stars from me - can I have the next one please

I love this series and this latest title was another brilliant read .
Gina is called to investigate an arson where a man has died , his family were in the house too , this soon becomes a serial arsonist and Gina must dig deep to solve this case , all this whilst being hounded by an unsavoury journalist who is threatening to expose parts of Gina’s past that would ruin her career
Fantastic as usual 5 stars

I adore Carla’s books and always get excited about newbies. This one has been a gem to read and one that I haven’t been able to put down.

Gina is a fantastic character, we see her past catching up with her in this one. The book moves at the perfect pace and is packed with twists.

I love how Carla writes, I always feel as though I am watching the events play out in front of me. If only Gina had her own series- I would definitely be watching.

This is interesting and exciting, unique from any other book I’ve read. Kovach is a favourite Bookouture author of mine, this has been a book I have found impossible to put down.

There isn’t anything negative I can say. This is a must for the TBR.

DI Gina Harte is facing a very difficult case. At the same time she is being hounded by a reporter about her tragic past. If it were in his power, the reporter would ruin her. Gina discovers that he is being driven by her former brother-in-law. As disturbing as this is to Gina, she must focus on the case at hand.

The case that needs to garner all of Gina’s attention is that of arson. A husband is dead and his wife and children were not at the scene. There is a very specific clue that alerts Gina and her team that this is something very personal. Could the wife have killed her husband? When another attack occurs a pattern starts to appear. When a conflict of interest occurs, Gina can’t help but worry about the pressure she is receiving from the journalist.

I came into this thrilling series at book three and have really gotten to feel for Gina and for the past that never seems to leave her behind all while she fully invests herself into the victims that suffer terrible crimes. As Gina pushes hard when it comes to the case at hand a young child goes missing and Gina is certain that all of the crimes are connected. Will she find the arsonist from the first murder and will she find the boy before it is too late?

Carla Kovach has written yet another compelling addition to an exciting series. Indeed, what a cleverly written book that not only revealed the disturbing past that the victims experienced but Gina’s past might be the catalyst that could cause her life and career to be completely derailed. This played into Gina’s incredible level of compassion towards the victims while she struggled to deal with conflicting emotions and decisions that she might be forced to make.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Overall 4.5*
First time for me reading this series and although it is book 10, it reads well as a stand alone too. You can quite quickly figure out what D.I. Gina Harte is all about and her tenacity at finding out the truth - in this case, a house fire. Although the plot is complex at times, you still don't become side tracked even though there are a good few twists and turns to keep you guessing giving the reader a roller coaster of a ride!! I will certainly go back and read the others in the series.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC to review
