This is the tenth book with protagonist Gina Harte and I enjoyed the story although it did take me a bit longer to get into the story. A man is burnt to death in his own home and no one is saying anything. Then another fire occurs. The story also links to Harte’s back story and her brother in law is involved in the case.
This was a good read once I was engaged but it didn’t grip me as quickly as the previous novels. I will look forward to the next instalment.
Thanks to Bookouture for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to Netgalley, publisher and author for a copy of this.

I've said it once and I'll say it again - Love this series!!

Gina Hart reminds me of Jane Tennison (but dare I say better).

5/5

I really enjoy the Gina Harte book series although I would have liked to see more of the focus on Gina's team and not just her alone as I do love the characters in these books. This is a strong story that kept me me enthralled throughout, quite a dark tale that draws you in and all you want to do is find who is the culprit.
Another great book by Carla Kovach, highly recommended. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a review copy of this book.

As always, when I started I slipped back into the familiarity of another Gina Harte novel. All the characters we know so well back like I’d been away for a holiday. The team as always nail another serial killer with just a few bumps along the way. As always a great conclusion after the case brings them a few challenges that they overcome with their professionalism as a team.

A slightly darker novel this time with more gruesome scenes. This element I loved, as it’s not often police procedural novels quite meet my grim expectations.

Without being too cliche, this novel really did keep me guessing and was full of twists and turns!

A nice heart felt dedication as always and thank Carla for the mention of The Fiction Café Book Club in your acknowledgements. I will never tire of seeing our fabulous group name in print. 🙂

After a man is found burned to death in his home, Detective Inspector Gina Harte and her team start investigating. It soon becomes clear that the incident is linked to a group of friends, and that their families may be in danger... Can DI Harte and her team solve the case before more people die? Meanwhile, Gina must face her own demons and past when a nuisance reporter harasses her...

Another brilliant entry to the Gina Harte series. As usual the plot was great - exciting and tense and kept me turning the pages until the ending. Loved hearing from the usual crowd and seeing how they are getting on. Already looking forward to the next book in the series!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.

Her Dying Wish – Carla Kovach

Detective Inspector Gina Harte is awakened from a fitful slumber by a nightmare – followed quickly by a phone call from her partner, DS Jacob Driscoll, summoning her to the scene of an arson with a dead victim found within the home. As she takes a quick shower before heading the the arson scene, she replays in her mind the contents of an email, and the source of her nightmare. Years ago, Gina was married to an abusive partner who died unexpectedly after a fall down the stairs of their home. Now a reporter, prompted by her husband’s surviving family, is threatening to expose all the scandalous details of her marriage, including the possibility that Gina is culpable in her ex-husband’s death – and he wants to interview Gina for her side of the story.

As Gina meets Jacob at the scene, they learn the deceased is a young male. Neighbors report the victims’ wife packed the children up and left a few days ago after a particularly loud altercation. Accelerant was used on the fire. And a small candle in a jar was found at the scene as well. There only witness appears to be a 5-year-old child from a neighboring home who provides a non-descript sighting of a person, but little more. A follow up interview with the deceased’s wife, leaves them little to go on.

As Gina & Jacob attempt to gain more insight into Faith and the state of her marriage, they turn to Faith’s friends – a small group of women who met at the gym twice weekly. None of them have any major insights into who may have wanted to harm Faith and her husband. The only common denominator identified by the group is a trainer at the gym with groping hands. Then another arson attempt is made, this time on the home of another member of the gym group, Kerstin.

And the search for answers continues, Gina is forced to face her past, as her ex-brother-in-law becomes a part of the investigation. Then, an arrest is made, leaving more questions than answers - and a child that’s missing… It will take everything Gina and her team have to crack this case…but some old ghosts can’t be buried…

This was another stellar installment to the Gina Hart series, told with all of the suspense we’ve come to expect from Ms. Kovach. A great read, with twists that I couldn’t have imagined, and a somewhat sad yet satisfying ending. Gina is a likeable and relatable protagonist with her own flaws and secrets that weigh pretty heavily, as she tries to right wrongs and maintain her relationship with her daughter. Definitely worth the read, as a standalone or in the series order – this is # 10. Now the long wait for the next for the next…

I received this book as an Advance Reader Copy from #Netgalley & Bookouture, in exchange for an objective review.

Wow just wow I was so excited to start reading this and to escape into the world of Gina Harte as soon as a new book in this series comes out anything else am reading has to go on hold to start the next instalment of these books. I loved that this one delved more into Ginas back story and gave the reader more of an insight into her past life while at the same time treating us to her and her teams amazing detective skills. Once I had started reading I couldn’t put it down as wanted to read on and see how the story unfolded. Now excited for the next instalment of this series to come out.

I really like a good police procedural and I've enjoyed reading this series so far.

The main investigation was really interesting and I enjoyed piecing together who was doing what and why along with Gina and her team.

I do feel that the balance between Gina's personal life and focusing on the investigation was a bit off in this instalment, and it stretches credibility a bit that Stephen keeps cropping up in unrelated investigations.

Overall I think this was a good book. Not my favourite in the series but a decent story nonetheless.

This didn't do it for me. I was not a huge fan of the detective POV and felt the conversations were clipped and somewhat meaningless sometimes. This just wasn't my favorite book.

Loved this domestic thriller! Story was intense and creepy, full of such great characters! It grabbed me from page one and never let go. Full of twists and turns. Highly recommend
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book

The D.I Gina Harte series is up there with the all time greatest crime book series ever for me.

I just love the dynamic between the characters and the relationships that come through on the page. The characterisation has been built so well through the series and continues to grown.

This case that the team face in this book is complicated, twisted and all out confusing! It's almost like 2 or 3 cases in one.

As always the team hit the ground running to try and find the perpetrator and seeing them fall into their natural roles is so satisfying.

I also loved having another glimpse into Gina's past. I love learning more about her and cannot wait to see what the rest of the series has to offer

Another engaging instalment in this well established series with the return of several characters and a particularly complex case.
It seemed to rain non-stop for the duration of the book!
I'd like to see much less focus on or better still a conclusion to Gina's past.

Book 10 and Gina is still struggling. She has help (NOT) from a reporter who hates her and the family of her late husband. Someone is murdering people by setting fires at their homes. Who is doing this and why? You need to read the book to find out. Once again I was on the edge of my seat flipping the pages to get to the end. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.

When a fire destroys a house in Cleevesford leaving one man dead, his family homeless, and a clue whose relevance is known only to the arsonist, DI Gina Harte has no idea just how difficult and traumatic things are about to become. Also struggling to deal with a persistent local journalist convinced he knows all her secrets, Gina is exhaused, running on caffeine, and an unhealthy amount of  adrenaline.

After a subsequent disturbance is linked to the first fire it becomes clear their arsonist isn't finished yet. Forced to let her partner take on more responsibility than usual Gina and her team rush to discover the reasons behind the attacks before more lives are lost but a devastating discovery threatens to derail the whole investigation.

In this tenth Gina Harte book the stakes have never higher and she needs her team more than ever. The twists, turns, and reasons behind the crimes, means the author never lets her readers relax for a moment and once again Gina is a brilliantly drawn main protagonist you can't help liking or empathising with. One of the best things about this series is that no two stories have been alike and I hope there will be more to come in the near future.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. I thoroughly enjoyed this thought provoking and entertaining read.

I always look forward to reading Carla’s books and like the rest, I found it difficult to leave down, this one centres more around the past events of Gina’s past and the slight connection to her latest case. It’s full of the usual tense twists that the reader can expect and it definitely didn’t disappoint, as always the only downside was the last page as now having to wait for the next book hopefully won’t be too long. Easily a five star read for me.

This was just ok for me. The problem I had was there was a lot of Gina and not of her team. The conversations that happened were short and fractured. Gina’s past is catching up with her and there was a lot of focus on that. The mystery was decent but not enough to make this more than a higher rating of three. Still look forward to more in this series, but this wasn’t my favorite.

Excellent read! I love Gina, and always look forward to the next installment. This book was absolutely full of twists and turns, it kept me on the edge of my seat and I couldn't put it down! A great story behind the motive as well!

Book ten in this series.. Kerstin is wide awake. While her family sleeps around her, the devastating secret her husband just told her is spinning through her mind. Does she really know the man she married? And are her children still safe in this small town?
Gripping from the first chapter this book just drew me in immediately!

This is a real edge of your seat thriller and one of the best in the series so far. Anyone could have been the perpetatrator and you couldn't help feeling torn when the truth came out. There are several heartstopping moments especially where the children are concerned. I was up until the early hours finishing this book but there was no way I was putting it down. Without saying too much and spoiling the series for others, I think the "Terry" story has run its course and should be put to rest once and for all.
