I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Drowning Girls’, book 13 in the Detective Josie Quinn series and written by Lisa Regan, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Detective Josie Quinn is asked by Finn Mettner to accompany him to the home of his girlfriend Amber Watts as she’s not been seen for two days and something doesn’t feel right. When Josie and Lieutenant Noah Fraley are alerted to the discovery of a female’s body at the fish ladder at Russell Haven Dam the description matches that of Amber and despite being a detective Mett is told to keep away from the investigation.

‘The Drowning Girls’ is a gripping thriller with a plot that’s the most complex and involved in the series but once started is so addictive it’s impossible to stop reading. It’s well-written with an action-packed storyline and from page one I’ve been gripped through each dramatic and heart-stopping incident, each twist and turn, trying to identify the person responsible but failing. Although not my favourite of the series it’s still a fantastic read despite getting slightly confused at times with the number of characters involved. I love this series and always enjoy reading more of Josie, Noah, Gretchen and Mett, and of course Chief Chitwood, a good man who’s always supportive of his detectives. I’m so looking forward to book 14.

I can’t believe we’re up to book 13 and Lisa Regan is still keeping it fresh! This book starts with Detective Finn Mettner in pieces because his girlfriend, Amber Watts - the Denton Police Force press liaison person, appears to be missing. Mett has been silly and broke into Amber’s house because he thought something was wrong. All he achieved was put himself under suspicion.

There is, however, a strange clue which leads the officers to Russell Haven dam where it looks like Amber is about to drown. Detective Josie Quinn can’t help herself and jumps in to save her. Only it’s not Amber. It turns out to be her sister, Eden. From then on the plot is one twisty piece of work. We have a dysfunctional family in which everybody seems to be lying or hiding something. We have a charismatic evangelical preacher who is a bit fishy, a psychologist who killed himself 12 years ago and, and…

Nothing is as it seems and everyone is lying and keeping secrets. This is not surprising when when you finally learn the sheer scale of what this lot of miscreants has been up to. It is quite mind boggling! More family members are killed. It’s as if there is a vendetta against them - but why? And throughout the story is the question - is Amber still alive?

This is not a case of too many twists. Every twist was perfect for the story although I did have to consciously pick my jaw up off the floor a few times. The pace was constant throughout and the book never dragged. Despite my best efforts I don’t think anyone could pick who killed who in this crazy, bonkers story but it sure was a lot of fun reading it. Many thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly.

Another home run for Lisa Regan! I have read all of the books in this series and somehow, the books are always awesome! This was a fast paced thriller with a great plot. The story was really well written and very suspenseful.

This latest novel in the Josie Quinn series gives us a chance to dig deeper into the past of Josie's coworker, Amber. I really enjoy when we get to really get to know some of the more minor players in the series. My favorite thing about this series is the relationships of the characters.

Congrats to Lisa Regan on another great book and thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this brilliant book....

man oh man so many twists and turns with this one....

amber is missing, though as josie investigates more could it really be metz...her co worker and friend, hes gone against procedures and wont answer any of their questions...plus he broke into ambers house and could have taken away any evidence of wrong doing....

and with one more piece of evidence pointing them to the dam.. they all go there hoping to find a clue...but they find more than a clue...someone is trapped... and the dam is about to release a ton of water....

could they have found amber and can they get to her before the water is released

wow a tense thriller with more red herrings than an agatha christie novel...but man it was brilliant and kept you reading right to the end

This is a great read! Lots of twists and turns, an intense roller coaster ride and I couldn’t look away! Josie has a tangled mystery to solve, and it hits close to home as it’s one of her colleagues. She is a determined detective, and her character is so realistic. Suspenseful and emotional, I highly recommend this fantastic read!

Josie Quinn is so captivating! Every book Lisa writes has me on the edge of my seat. I usually finish each book within twenty four hours, and this was no different! Can’t wait for Josie’s next adventure!

This is a great book…this demonstrates that a great story/mystery can be written without bad language…I didn’t have to cringe because the characters were using such language. Thanks to the author…the story is one that is difficult to put down…the characters are so real that I imagined I was in the middle of the investigation…not really but this author weaves a story/journey that is fascinating…red herrings abound…I can’t wait to read other books by this author…I have enjoyed her books…don’t miss this one…the book was sent to me electronically for review by Netgalley…

I love this series and the characters have developed brilliantly from the first one, Vanishing Girls. Number 13 in the series but nothing unlucky here, this is a belter of a read. Josie and the whole gang are here and their subplots bubble along nicely. This has a great main plot, very close to home, when one of the team go missing. There’s lots going on here, you won’t know who to trust and you need to keep your wits about you too to keep track of it all, but it’s true rollercoaster of a ride
Even when it’s over, it’s not over and there’s a huge twist that I never saw coming!
I’m already looking forward to the next one.
Lovely touch that all of the books on one of the character’s beside are by Bookouture authors 😂

This book isn't even released yet and I already can't wait for the next one!!
Everytime I finish a Josie Quinn book I dont know how the next book could get any better, but she does it everytime!! While these books can be read as a standalone story, I really think you get more of the emotions punch if you have read them all... Plus once you read one, you will want to go back and read them all anyways. lol

I love how Josie is so real..Things that happen aren't just swept under the rug once that particular story is over. It takes her time, and the help of those she loves to help her get through the traumas that her job and life have brought her. In this book, while she is at home with her family a fellow detective knocks on her door asking for help.. It seems that he went to check on his girlfriend, and while she didn't appear to be home all of her things were.. Purse, keys, phone, and car.. He gets worried and wants Josie to go to the girlfriends house to make sure he isn't jumping to conclusions that things don't feel right...

He was right.. Amber is missing and the trail leads them to a body... a body of a woman who looks very much like Amber but isn't... and this leads to alot more questions..We end up diving into Ambers past and how it might connect not only to the place the body was found, but also to the new mega church thats being built and its charasmatic pastor..

I love how Josie and her team work together.. They have become a well oiled machine. and in each book we get to watch them all grow as characters both individually and as a team.. Every book has such a good mystery, I never know what kinds of twist and turns will be added in to throw us off.. Lisa Regan also does an amazing job of making you Feel.... when something bad happens especially to Josie or one of our favorite characters your heart just breaks for them.. or feeling happy for them when things finally start going right.. This series has an amazing cast of characters that pull you into the story, and make you need to keep reading until you get to the very last page..

If you love mystery/ thrillers I highly recommend checking this series out!!

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the arc of this book! I am not sure why I had never heard of this series before, because the book was great. I loved the characters, especially Josie. If you love strong female leads, you will love her too. The story was great, and pretty complex, so I was glad that near the end everything was recapped! I will start reading the previous books in the series so I can be ready for the next installment!

4.5⭐
This is my first introduction to Detective Josie Quinn, and boy have I been missing out. As this was a gripping story that slowly drew me in but soon had me hooked as Josie Quinn and the rest of her team, including husband Noah search for missing colleague Amber Watts and are soon drawn to the local dam where a body is found. And from there this story explodes with big twists and suspects galore not to mention more dead bodies and I couldn't read it fast enough or even begin to figure out who the killer was.

Furthermore, I really liked the characters and found the little bits of backstory offered fascinating, so much so I'm now going to purchase all the books I've missed out on so I can catch up properly and I would happily recommend The Drowning Girls to others.

I am huge fan of the Josie Quinn Series.
With that said. This one was not my favorite. It was good but it was a slower read for me. I usually fly through this series but this was a slower burn for me.

I love this series and have read them all. I was so excited to read this new one! It didn't disappoint.
Detective Josie Quinn is an amazing character, who is so supportive to her peers. Amber, a colleague, is taken from her home and the hunt begins. This very private person hasn't left any clues, so it takes great teamwork to figure out why, where, how. When they think they have solved what's happened, another clever twist is revealed.
Loved it!

Whenever a new book in this series comes out, I immediately drop everything and read it. I always anticipate a fast paced mystery with my favorite characters and this one did not disappoint! The case was perplexing and I enjoyed following the detectives as they sorted it out. The character development throughout this series has been astounding and I am wholeheartedly invested in the characters. Now I anxiously await the next book! My thanks to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.

I didn't feel completely out of the loop reading this one so out of order, which is great. It made me intrigued to read the previous books to get caught up and learn more of the backstory. Josie is our strong, focused detective who is in charge of the case when the department's press liaison Amber goes missing. The story does a great job of weaving Amber's backstory into the present, as well as Josie's troubled past as well. I really enjoyed that while Josie is definitely our bad-ass heroine, it's clear she is working as part of a team and everyone contributes throughout. I liked that there were plenty of twists and turns, and it kept me engaged and on my toes. As I always try to do with a police procedural, I tried not to guess too hard where the story was going, and I was pleased that there were plenty of suspects to go around. As always all thoughts and opinions are my own, and thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the free ARC in exchange for my review.

I am beyond thrilled that Josie Quinn and Lisa Regan are still going strong!

A pale hand reaches up, but it is too late, the raging water is too strong, and she is washed away....

Josie knew something was wrong when she heard knocking on her door at night - that knock signals trouble, and this was no exception. Josie learns that Amber, Denton PD's press liaison is missing. Her boyfriend / fellow officer (Mettner) has not seen her for days. Josie and Noah follow the clues to the local dam where the body of a woman is found. The dead woman is not Amber, who is she? How did she end up in the dam and why?

Josie and her team will stop at nothing to find Amber even if it means looking at one of their own. As the clues pile up and more bodies are found, it becomes clear that they need to find Amber sooner than later as they killer is not stopping and as the snow falls, danger looms.

Whew! What a thrilling ride! I have read every book since the beginning of the series, and it is still going strong. This could probably be read as a stand-alone but do yourself a favor and go back to the beginning. These books are very fast reads, and once you start, you will not want to stop!

Gripping and hard to put down, this book delivered. I didn't want to put it down and had on my super sleuth hat trying to follow the clues and find a killer myself. Of course, Josie is much better at that then I am!

Josie along with some other characters in the book continue to evolve and grow. I love the sense of family and community in this book. Regan has given us characters to root for and this book had me rooting the entire way.

Thrilling, fast paced and gripping.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
