While this is better than some other romances with similar premises, I couldn’t say I loved it. It was a quick read and enjoyable but I wouldn’t reread it.

At first it was a little confusing, habing not read the previous books, but once i got to 20% i was hooked, the secrets, twits, supense kept me at the edge of my seat the whole book. Definitely a story that keeps you guessing amd wanting to know how it all ends, as there is so much at stake.

The ending of a good thriller while we see Chase and Alicia try to save their marriage. I was all for saving their marriage. What intrigued me while reading was how detached Chase seemed with Alicia when he returned home. Then like switching cold to hot, he was forgiven. The secrets that were revealed and the suspense of the danger for the family, kept me enthralled throughout the book.
Absolutely a series that should be on one’s TBR.

Empires is the final book of the Captive of a Commoner series. The book picks up from Apart (book two) with escalating tensions between Chase and Alicia, who need to dig deep to preserve their marriage. In addition to their domestic woes, unexpected news, family secrets and the looming threat of Dimitri Ostopenko, the sinister and vengeful Russian mobster threaten to tear their families apart. The character growth of Chase and Alicia, especially when it came to their communication, is remarkable. With every page, I grew closer to the Cesare and Reardon families. At times, the text was repetitive and drawn out, but this did not come in the way of the unexpected and beautiful conclusion. Forward and upward it is! This book has multiple elements of action, thriller, suspense and steaminess, which will leave you for more. Concluding this series is bittersweet as Chase and Alicia grew on me. A 5 star read! I can't wait to read more from C.J Pastore.

From the Taliban to the Russian mob, this book centres around a couple trying to get back to their early relationship while navigating threats, kidnapping and fear of murder. A thriller that keeps you guessing. CJ Pastore always provides a story to keep thinking about long after you read "the end".
