With Love from London is a dual time line love story between a mother and a daughter. It’s a story of love lost, love misunderstood, love misplaced, and love found. It’s the story of Valentina, an American, who upon her estranged Mother’s death finds that she’s inherited a bookstore in London. Going through divorce herself, Valentina hops on a plane and discovers her Mother’s homeland and learns who her Mother was through the eyes of her friends, her bookstore, her customers and the neighborhood she called home. At the same time, we get to read her Mother’s story and see the heartbreak she suffered and the decisions that were made out of love for Valentina.

This looks like a Rom-Com, and while there are other side romances going on, they aren’t the meat of this story. I really enjoyed Ms. Jio’s storytelling. The story started right off from page one and was see vivid, I could picture the bookstore. This is a great book for a quick weekend read, or something to take your mind off current events.

The way this story is told is so captivating. The character development is unexpected and endearing. The story is never what you think it will be. I highly recommend this read.

I have long been intrigued by the covers of Sarah Jio's books, however, as I'm familiar with her writing historical fiction, I've not read any of them before. I'm not a fan of that genre. But when I saw that she was writing a contemporary fiction novel, I knew I had to give it a read. And am I ever glad that I did! My time spent reading this story quickly turned into me dreaming about one day visiting and living in Primrose Hill. There are a lot of heartbreaking parts of this story, but it's balanced with a beautiful story that will make you cry, laugh, smile, and want to give everyone in your life a big hug! There were some truly thought provoking moments throughout this story! Told with a dual timeline, and having a bit of mystery (in the form of a scavenger hunt) included, I found this book extremely hard to put down. But, at the same time, I made myself stop at times so that I could savor the story longer. This book was beautifully written and I highly recommend you read it. It's likely going to be one of my favorite books of the year. Maybe even of all time.

Nothing about this book surprised me, but I thoroughly enjoyed it every step of the way.

Librarian and Bookstagrammer Valentia Baker’s cheating husband leaves her on the same day she receives notice that her mother, Eloise, who abandoned her when she was twelve, has passed away and left everything to her. With Love From London is a split POV story between Val and Eloise, who each reveal different loves and losses that have transpired in their respective lives.

I really liked this book. It was feel-good and happy, but also sad and mysterious. There were so many elements that fit together so well, maybe too well, as I saw them all coming from a mile away, but I digress. Sarah Jio wove the two stories together so nicely in such a perfect way. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an easy, interesting read (check TWs though!).

I loved this book about a librarian who inherits a bookshop from her estranged mother.

When Valentina was a teenager, her beloved mother left her to return home to her native London and never returned. Val was left heartbroken with her father.

Now, Val has returned to London to her mothers apartment and bookshop to try and understand her mother, her life and why she would leave. The change could not have come at a better time for Valentina who is going through a divorce of her own.

This book was such an easy and wonderful read.

This was a fantastic, heartwarming book. I love how the mother/daughter relationship develops through dual narratives, alternating between the past and present. Reading this at the beginning of spring was fitting as Eloise says “”Hold on, the daffodils are coming.” This book has everything: scavenger hunts, bookstore, adventure, love, bookstagram, and London sights. Eloise and Valentina were lovely MC. The relationship between Eloise and Frank made me sad and angry but made me root for Eloise.

This book was lovely. It was at times heartbreaking, but ultimately hopeful. I loved how enchanting and magical it was. Such a beautiful romance that got me in all my feels!

I loved this star-crossed lovers book, even though not listed that way, how it seemed to me.
Eloise grew up in the low-class area of London and it seems all of a sudden she was noticed by a richer upper-class guy. After she goes to a club with him she wants to get some air and meets the man of her dreams. They spent the rest of the evening chatting and enjoying each other's company. But it seems things just don't work out. So she ends up moving to America, California with her new husband. But all is not the golden dream he promised. I won't ruin more of the story but it is a wonderful read. Please don't miss it.

I could have easily given this book a 5-star rating, but before I tell you what missed that one star, here is why this book is worth picking up.

📚Valentina was a thirty something librarian from Seattle who going through an ugly divorce and was now traveling to London to attend to her mother’s properties that she left her when she passed. That opening airplane scene at the start sucked me up right away. I can’t help to wonder what was waiting for Val when she landed. She has not seen Eloise-her mom, nor heard from her since she was twelve. All she have of her mom were the painful aftermaths of longing after she abandoned her. But, did she really abandon Val?

📚Val was a librarian and also a bookstagrammer. A main character who is a reader?? Relatable much? Most definitely! Eloise left her with one of the prominent fixture of a building on Primrose Hill.It has two flats on top of a— get this, a BOOKSTORE! In a blink of an eye, she is now a librarian bookstagrammer turned into a book seller! A book sanctuary of her own. How fin and exciting!

📚The characters-specially Millie and Liza. They were packaged perfectly as the best ever friends any girl could have. Oh, and Percy, a cat that loves in a bookstore is always perfect and magical in every sense.

📚The plot of With Love From London was driven by the most unique scavenger hunt that Eloise left for Valentina. The clues can only be found in between the line, the pages and even the characters of the books they once read together and love all the same. The progress was a slow burn. but, I am a sucker for emotional adventure and that scavenger hunt was too heartwarming for any bookworm to pass.

📚So why 4-stars? I just felt that the story was rushed towards the end. The characters were wrapped up and accounted for in a manner of giving them finality in their respective roles. I could have use more of the sweet reunions because they feel good. The romance of this book was clean yet very sincere and earnest and deeply felt. Sarah Jio said in the beginning that she was handing her baby to us for care. I say, the beauty and gentleness of this book is more than enough for any reader to truly adore and love and care for this baby. I like it very much and highly recommend it.

With Love from London had all the feels. Just finished it and i am emotionally crying. Set in the past is Eloise in London where she meets Frank. Present time is Valentina who is Eloise's daughter. with Frank. Eloise and Frank marry and move to California where Eloise was never happy. She was lonely and missed London. Frank was distant and gone most of the time. After many years they had Valentina and Eloise knew what is was to love someone unconditionally. Frank decides that Eloise needs to go to London to visit so he sends her off. While in London Frank files for a divorce and gets full custody of Valentina. This is a story of a mother and daughter that missed each other and Valentina was unsure why her mother left and never kept in contact. From beginning to end I was hooked.

A beautifully written story following dual timelines. Val in present day recently got word her estranged mother has left her a flat and bookstore in London in her will. Val travels to London and spends her time discovering a life she wishes she had known … a life with her mother. The story takes the reader through a heartbreaking story of loss and complex family dynamics, ultimately ending in healing and acceptance.

This book combined two of my favorite things: books and London. While I often struggle with dual timelines, Sarah Jio's writing is expert and made everything so easy to follow. Such a beautiful ode to mother-daughter relationships!

This was a well written story about family, relationships, community, and secrets. I found the cast of characters engaging and liked the fact that the plot involved a bookshop.

What a book! It’s definitely one of my top reads this year!! I absolutely loved the relationships in this: with themselves, each other, friends and love interests. This takes place in a bookstore with all the quirky characters you would think. I really thought it was a sweet story. Sarah Jio is an author that writes hearfelt, feel-good stories. This did not disappoint.

Valentina has been dealt two blows in her life. She is getting divorced from her husband and her mother, who she has not seen or heard from in years, has died. She flies to London to close out the life of a woman she hardly knows.

When she arrives she instantly finds a life that she thinks will make her happy. A bookstore left to her by her mother, new friends and maybe even a romance.

While she is there, She finds her mom left a scavenger hunt for her to complete to get to know her and the city she loves. Alternately there is a second mystery, when she finds a copy of her favorite book annotated, she goes on a search to find that person who did the annotation.

There is also a parallel story of Val’s mother Eloise, and the story of what lead to the separation of one true love Valentina that is perfectly weaved in.

This is a beautiful story of forgiveness, love lost and found, and mourning the life we could have had. The storytelling is lovely and Sarah Jio weaves a tremendous mother/daughter story.
