While this book had some interesting and surprising twists, the story was somewhat boring and too slow for my liking. The premise of the book was great, so I wish the plot had been more consistent and engaging. While not terrible, it was just okay.

Hmm. This is twisty! That revelation floored me! Fellows, that made a mark! So good!

Cheers to Netgalley for the copy!

This book was too slow and just dragged on for me. The ending was okay but overall the book could have been better. It was just really hard to get into and I couldn't stay focused on it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reader copy.

Thank you for this ARC!

I really enjoyed this book from the beginning, but then it became a struggle. I kept waiting for the BIG THING to be revealed and lost my patience to find out at about 40%.

I’ve never read this author before but I would try again!

This book was quite spine tingling. There were points where I was convinced I knew how it would end, and the two seconds later I was completely stunned. I very much enjoyed the writing style and all the twists and would highly recommend to any lover of thrillers.

Don't get me wrong, I like this author. No, I LOVE this author, she's one of those who still find time to communicate with her readers and followers, unlike some who became much of a snob after a few published books. LOL.

I always make sure to pre-order and/or request her books wherever it's available, especially the short reads which get to me every time. But this here isn't one of my favorites, it felt like quite a huge build-up, like 70% into the story before you get to really know what is going on, which frustrated me a lot as I'm not one who likes to wait that long for the questions in my head to be answered. LOL. Also, maybe because I've read so many thrillers that I kind of knew what was going on with this "Margot issue", I wasn't surprised when it was finally concluded. But I wanted so badly to know what's it got to do with the title - "The Delivery".

It has a great storyline and there's the thrill effect of finding out what's really happening and the 'who's who' behind the hints, you get to pick up along the story. So, if you're the one who likes the guessing game in every chapter, then you’ll certainly enjoy this book.

What's constant with every book that I've read from LA Detwiler is the sadness I always feel whenever I finished her book; be it a Thriller or a short Horror one, it always has this deeper and darker connotation which always makes me wonder where it came from, I even asked her about it once I think. She's one of the few authors who makes me really "feel" and get into the story, and that's one of my bases of adding someone in my "Go-to Authors".

Can't wait for the next one!
Thank you so much LA Detwiler for the ARC of The Delivery.

This book kept me interested from the first page. What can, a wrong psychiatric approach, do to an already disturbed mind.
Evette is sure that her husband is doing something illegal, but what. And all this while she is on maternity leave. The description of a small baby mom is realistic, the missed baths, no makeup, long hours without good sleep.
Well written, I liked it.

This book was well-written and suspenseful with a feeling of foreboding from the start. The twist was clever but I had it figured out long before the ending. The author is talented and I would definitely read another one of her books. But since the “twist” was so different from the direction the book had previously been taking, I ended the book a little disappointed. There were also some plot holes that were never fully explained at the end. Nevertheless, I like the author’s writing style and voice and would probably read a different story by this author.

Evette Harding's world of maternal bliss is perfect except for one thing: there’s something wrong with her husband.
John is a lawyer and loving husband by day. However, ever since the baby came, his dark habits from the past are re-emerging. Once, she was fine with playing Bonnie to his Clyde. Now, with the baby to think about, it terrifies her.
As she delves into his hidden life and dangerous lies, she begins to fear for her safety. But when maternal instincts creep over the line of paranoia, will she go too far to protect her child? And in a house full of dark secrets, will she solve the most important one before it is too late?

This is an amazing read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.

I struggled with this book. The first 30 some chapters were really hard to get thru. It takes a really long time to begin to fully understand it. At times, I felt an almost "love to hate" relationship with the characters. I could not understand why the story did not get to the point quicker. Then came an extremely powerful ending and is all came together.

I really struggled with this book. At the start I found it very hard to get into and wasn’t at all sure where it was going. The 2 main characters John and his wife Evette I really couldn’t warm to. Neither of them struck me as particularly likeable characters.

Around 3 quarters of the way through the book there was a really exciting part and I really enjoyed that bit of the book however once that was over and we got to the end I had worked out what was going on with Evette. What was going on with John I found was cleverly written and a very carefully thought out.

Sadly this book wasn’t for me but I’m sure there are plenty out there who will enjoy it. This book wasn’t what I had expected at all it was very unique and unlike anything I’ve ever read before which is good if you are someone who’s looking for something a bit different.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for an advance copy of this book in exchange for this review.

L.A. Detwiler is the USA TODAY Bestselling thriller author of The Widow Next Door and several other chilling page-turners. She is also a high school English teacher from Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania.
During her final year at Mount Aloysius College, she started writing her first fiction novel, which was published in 2015. She has also written articles that have appeared in several women’s publications and websites. L.A. Detwiler lives in her hometown with her husband, Chad. They have five cats and a mastiff named Henry.

“Things are never perfect.”

Evette has had a chaotic life, her father went to prison for murder when she was young, and her mother was bitter. All Evette has ever wanted was a family, to be a mom. So when she meets John one night at a bar, a terrifying series of events permanently connects them. As their lives continue, and they start checking things off the together forever list- everything changes with the delivery.

Whew. This was a wicked descent into madness. The heavy topic of mental illness, childhood trauma, infertility, suicide, the themes in this novel are heavy and may not be appropriate for all readers. Trigger warning.

This was a slow burn, but it was so jam-packed with twists and turned that you are hooked from the beginning. The storyline is told cleverly, with the past mixed in occasionally. It’s very Alice down the rabbit hole.

Evette wants to be a good mom. It’s all she ever wants out of life, and she thinks she has the foundation ready with her husband, John. He is an attorney, a powerful man. A secretive man. Possibly a dangerous man.

We get the story from Evette’s perspective, which was so well executed. Evette struggles with mental illness. She gets severe bouts of depression. And when a harsh life sentence is handed down, John worries Evette won’t be able to process it.

Evette feels like she is alone. She has no one, and her isolation makes her desperate. Her desperation is palpable. You can feel her anxiety and her desire to escape.

You feel every tense moment as this story continues, and when the final chapter happens- you feel the sharp slap of reality. The twist in this novel was very well done, and the plot was unique.

What would you do for love?

In The Delivery, we meet Evette who is absolutely over-the-moon for her baby daughter; though, it seems, her husband, John, is not. Since the birth of their baby, John has become distant, secretive, and quick to anger. Before the baby, they lived in marital bliss—Evette and John connected on so many levels. Evette fears that John’s dark past is catching up to him once again, and she’s determined to get to the bottom of it and find out his secrets.

This thriller kept me on the edge of my seat, wanting to find out what John was up to. And as I learned more about their history, I became even more invested in how this story would unfold. Both John and Evette’s flaws and secrets kept me coming back for more.

For readers who enjoy a domestic thriller with a powerful twist, The Delivery is a solid choice. I’m looking forward to the second book that is told in John’s POV.

Thanks to NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to read this book and provide an honest review.

I've read a couple of books by this author before; one I liked and the other not so much, but I decided to give the author one more try, especially because the premise of this book sounded right up my street. The plot, even though I guessed some of it, was interesting. However, I don't think I'm a fan of the author's style, and I found that the narration dragged a bit.
I'm sure that this book will find its fans; it just wasn't for me.

"The Delivery: A Domestic Thriller" is the first book of the "Maternal Instincts" series. The story begins with 27-year-old Evette and her husband John. The couple have struggled for years with infertility problems and the loss of a child they were caring for through the foster system. Then they have a "miracle baby" named Margot. Evette has past mental issues, but seemes to be doing well since Margot came into her life. She is a doting mother to Margot. Evette begins to notice that John is acting different. He appears to be cold and distant. He is keeping secrets from Evette. The secrets put a huge wedge in the couples relationship. Eventually, Evette becomes extremely alarmed. She can no longer tolerate John's sinister behavior and will go to any lengths to protect Margot.

The book is a slow burn. It takes a really long time to begin to fully understand it. At times, I felt an almost "love to hate" relationship with the characters. I could not understand why the story did not get to the point quicker. Then came an extremely powerful ending and is all came together. "The Delivery" will be published February 1, 2022.

Thank you to NetGalley for an arc of this book.

Evette has a baby, it’s all she’s ever wanted. But there’s something wrong with her husband John. Something is very wrong. And Evette is determined to find out the truth. But is her truth the same as everyone else’s?

I have this 3 stars as I guessed most of the twists before they happened. There weee a few sections that were too long and the story could have been wrapped up sooner. The kindle version also had a couple of chapters from The Labour, which is the story from john’s POV. This was also useful.

A solid 3 stars.

The Delivery by L.A. Detwiler

“Another great book to start the year! The Delivery takes you through Evette and John’s lives through current and past scenes from their lives. Perfectly woven together to make a fantastic book! Five stars!”-Books and Pens on Green Gables

Evette has waited such a long time to be a mom. Years of hopes that never materialized. Tears, anger, hurt. When she and John found out why they weren’t getting pregnant, it was agonizing for them both. And it changed them. But those sad days are over because now Evette has her sweet baby girl, Margot, in her arms. Her heart is finally full. John thought it was wrong to name the baby Margot after what had happened, but Evette knew it was the perfect name for her baby.

John worries about Evette. She hasn’t been the same since the incident at their office. He wishes he knew how to help her. Evette and Margot…John knows she loves Margot, but he thought she would be doing better by now.

Evette knows John is up to something. He’s working later, doesn’t want her to use his phone. She decides she has to figure out what he is up to. She no longer trusts her husband, and why should she, after how their relationship started. When she discovers John has started locking his home office, she decides that she needs to use other ways to figure out what he’s doing. She has her suspicions, and they involve her former best friend.

Why is John doing something that could threaten the family they’ve always wanted?

I was given The Delivery to read and review. Thank you!

The story is told from evette’s perspective in how her story unfolds. She tells the tales of meeting a man, falling in love and eventually wanting to start a family. It goes through the difficulties of trying to conceive all the whole evette has her own history which creeps up throughout the story.

This book is like Watching YOU without watching YOU. I really enjoyed this book, although I felt like there was a little too much build up to what happens, the twist is not what you would expect or what you think you know as you are reading this book. As a new mom myself I really felt for Evette as she is juggling a new baby and her husbands hiding things. It was very suspenseful and it kept things interesting. Just when you think you have everything figured out, the author throws you for a loop. I love mysteries and I love any book about a new mom!! So having both in one book made this extra enjoyable !!
