Wow!! I've always wanted to read Showalter. And I'm so happy I found an author to obsess over.

I was a little confused at the beginning with all the made-up world and characters, but by the time Halo met Lady O I was hooked. Like literally hooked!! I couldn't believe there was a storyline about the hero killing the heroine over and over again. I couldn't believe that it worked!! The sexual tension was mind-blowing, the backstory was engrossing, the characters were a delight. Like literally everything about this book was good. I can't wait to read the first and the next book in this series.

A great fantasy/paranormal romance. I was very invested in the characters and their world. I read the previous book in the series, it helped me understand the world. It can be read as a stand-alone. There was a lot of tension, great love scenes.

I have always been a fan of Gena Showalter books. She was the one that got me into fantasy books in the first place. And I am even more excited to read the next book in the Rise of the Warlords series.
Get ready for the battle of the year. Halo is a master in winning all battles, so it’s no surprise for his next challenge. What he did not expect is find his soulmate aka feisty harper warrior Ophelia. She may be disappointed in her family, but that does not mean she does not have other qualities. She may not know it yet, but happiness is better achieved when it’s your dream. That’s something Halo and Ophelia will figure out when they continue the battle against the enemy.
I was kinda excited to read the next book in the Rise of the Warlords series. But after finishing the book, I kinda felt conflicted with this book. I was not invested with this book couple as I usually am when I read Gena Showalter books. I just did not feel the character chemistry for each other. I felt it was too forced on my end. It’s not a bad thing. It was just a letdown.

I am always looking forward to reading Gena's next book. I get lost in her words and this book was just as intriguing as the last. I love this new series and characters. These two were fantastic and I love the ground hog day scenario. A definite page turner for me and I'm excited to meet the new characters coming in the next installment. Thank you as always Gena for a wonderful read !

I decided to read this book as a challenge to myself to read outside my usual genres. I came to the conclusion pretty early on that unfortunately this genre is just not for me. There was too much violence, and it really rubbed me the wrong way, unfortunately. Maybe I would have felt differently if I was reading it at a different time. In the current pandemic situation… it was not a good choice for me. This is not a reflection on the writing or the story, but rather to my own personal preferences and mental state. The writing was very vivid and evocative.. I did not finish the book and I really wish I did not have to provide a starred rating. Thank you for the copy of this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The storyline grabbed and kept my attention and the characters had me invested. I loved the strong chemistry between Halo and Ophelia, and I thought they made an awesome couple. This book was the perfect combination of angst, danger, humor, intensity, drama and hot, sizzling heat to have me eagerly turning those pages and even staying up late to continue to do so.

I started the year off with this book and it did not disappoint. I loved Halo and Ophelia together. A harpy was just what Halo needed to shake up his life. If I could be anything I think I would be one of Gena Showalter’s harpies. IMMORTAL kept me up all night flipping the pages. Lots of angst, humor, sexy times, danger and a great love story. I highly recommend this series! It is a spin-off from the Lords of the Underworld Series but it can be read as a stand alone series. I love the LOTU series and highly recommend it if you haven’t read it though. It’s one I read over and over and it never gets old. Gena Showalter is one of my favorites.

Labors of Hercules? Check! Monster mash up?Check! Groundhogs day? Check! A hilarious murderous love story between a beast and her consort? Checkmate!

Ophelia is what all woman want to be. A sexy lusty lady for her man and a force to be reckoned with when it comes to defending her family. I loved seeing her grow into accepting both sides of herself instead of trying to tamp down parts of her she didn't like and believed nobody else would either. Didn't hurt that she had a sexy beef cake with a chub club waiting for her every morning 😉

Halo is an ice cold warrior who slowly melted after meeting his hot fiery female that he was destined to kill over and over. What's a little brutal murder between bedmates, am I right? Every couple has issues they need to overcome!

I simply love the world's and characters that Gena brings to life. From the world building to the character development there's no one better! I can't wait for the next installment of The Rise of The Warlords and the journey it takes us on. If you haven't read The Warlord, the first in this spinoff series from her Lords of the Underworld, I highly recommend you do so yesterday!

As always, the Harpies did not disappoint! I have loved every harpy character that the author has introduced and Ophelia was my kind of harpy. I definitely related to her self doubt and how down on herself she tended to be. Her and Halo were a terrific combo and I loved reading this.

If you're into paranormal romances, mythology, and stubborn characters that keep you on your toes, this is the book for you!

One of the things I always enjoy about reading a book by Showalter is the way she balances all the things that are important to me. She always writes stories that drag you in from almost the first page. You won't be able to not fall in love with her heroes. Her stories are chocked full of humor, love, and at times tears. You won't be able to sigh while reading them.

I right away got into The Immortal and didn't want to put it down. I loved the whole idea of the story.

Ophelia is so much fun as a character. She's tough and full of fight. I love how mopy she is about her life. She thinks poorly about herself but I don't see what she sees. I find her fun and loving. Well-loving in her own way. It seems that we all have family issues even harpies.

You'll love Halo. He is tunnel-visioned and can't see anything but what he was taught. You wonder if he can ever love and show any warmth. I didn't even know if he could even crack a smile.

You'd think these two would be opposites and not be able to come together but you'd be wrong. Ophelia brings life to Halo's being. He's fun with her even when he doesn't try to be. I love the back and forth between them. I chuckled more than once. I really liked them together. You'll love the theme of this story and how much it brings to the story.

The Immortal reminds me why I enjoy paranormals so much. Make sure to also pick up The Warlord if you haven't gotten it yet. It's best to read that first then The Immortal. The series is better for reading them in order. I'm looking forward to what comes next.

YESSSSS. It's Halo and Ophelia's turn to do their thing and HARPIES, amirite?!?! Those ladies are WILD! They get an idea in their head and they just go all out in making that idea a reality, don't they?

So wild, slightly bloodthirsty Ophelia doesn't seem like she'd be a solid match to the emotionless Halo, does she? Guess what? Her passion for life (and inability to do anything Halo expects) kind of works for the big guy. And by "kind of" I mean it REALLY works for him. She fights him on everything just on principle and he's not nearly as bothered by this as he probably should be. And the more time he spends around her, the more he thaws to her.

As for Ophelia, she's offered a chance to become more than the flunk out with some lingering family issues and she takes it. Even though she knows it's not necessarily the best decision to make, she makes it with the wellbeing of her people (and the Astra Planeta, since they're allies now) in mind. She's also firmly sworn off men and absolutely refuses to fall for Halo and his intense, growly ways. Absolutely. No questions asked. Refuses. You heard it here first.

As you might imagine, reliving the same day over and over and having only each other to rely on sparks more than a couple of steamy encounters. But they're both stubborn and have a tiny bit of baggage to work through. And that's without having to deal with mythical monsters and herculean tasks and tricksy gods who are not at all nice and all that.

A little danger, more than a little bloodshed, a few deaths on the side, some steam, sexy times, a lot of verbal foreplay, and a whole lot hanging in the balance if Halo fails. Good stuff!

“First time dealing with Harpies? Helpful Hint: Expect the Unexpected.”

Ophelia, the harpy/nymph combo, both lover and fighter is at war with herself as well as with the Astra. None more so than Halo. An emotionless hardened assassin since he was a child, he finds emotions and with it the natural unpredictability that follows, surging to the surface. Anyone who’s ever felt the slightest niggling of insecurity about whether they should trust their instincts about their significant other will find something relatable in Ophelia. But the twists continue in this book, taking a fantastical twist that keep escalating into the full fantasy realm. Though my true love will always be paranormal romance, this quasi-paranormal quasi-fantasy is another cant miss for Gena!

I really enjoyed this book - the story was really well paced and remained exciting even while the same day is repeating over and over.

The second book in Gena's new and action-packed Rise of the Warlords series, The Immortal, did not disappoint!

The Immortal is as fun, sexy and unpredictable as the first book. I loved everything about it! From the characters, to the world building, to the plot itself, it was a wild ride and I demand more. The story is so clever and original, I truly enjoyed every page of it.

Ophelia, our Harpy heroine, was a new addition to this world, and as always with Gena, she was a sassy, funny, brave heroine who wasn't afraid to contend with our hero, Halo. If you've read The Warlord, then you've met Halo, the second in command of the Astra Planeta. Halo is everything I love in my PNR hero: fierce, strong, unmovable and loyal. I loved reading about them, their banter was the best, I wasn't bored once.

This book can be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend reading the first one, not only because it's absolutely amazing, but also because it gives you insights into many other characters and a better look at the world. It also helps you understand a little of what's going on in The Immortal.
