The World Turned Upside Down tells the story of Yorktown, that piece of land on the York River where General Cornwallis’s army surrendered to the combined French and American forces. Readers hear from well known participants like Hamilton and Washington, as well as everyday men and women who left behind written records of their experience during the siege.
The World Turned Upside Down is a great overview of Yorktown for young readers. Pictures and maps are present throughout to illustrated the people and places it talks about. A list of characters helps keep the many players of Yorktown straight and a glossary at the back defines unfamiliar words.

A detailed account of the players in the American Revolution with maps and paintings. End of the book features a highlight of some of the major figures during the war and their post-revolution future. List of places to visit, timeline and glossary are also helpful. Best for middle school aged kids.
