Tin Man was a cute story. It covered more topics than I initially expected. While all of the characters experienced grief, each of their experiences was unique.

While grief due to the death of a loved one was explored, the Tin Man's grief drew me in more. He experienced the type of grief that comes from living his truth and being shunned by his loved ones for it. The constant struggle of missing them, knowing they are there, and deciding whether or not living authentically is worth the loss.

A lot is going on in this story, but I didn't see any issues with it. Very pleased.

Creative, imaginative — well worth the visual journey, although my Kindle copy came in a little rough. Wonderful art.

I love the premise of this book and the potential for the plot from what I could deem from it, but the file was mostly difficult to read so I cannot reasonably ascertain if I would recommend it.

I could not read the file that was sent. The images were beautiful, but since this was a kindle only download, it was not readable. If this was an epub, I could have read it, but there was not even an option to read it in the netgalley app. I do not feel comfortable submitting a full review of book I could not read.

I was so excited to read this! I love The Wizard of Oz, so this is right up my alley! Unfortunately, I couldn’t read most of it because the file seems to be corrupted or something. But the art was awesome, from what I could tell, and I cannot wait to read it when it is published!

I was given an advanced reader's copy via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own

I am not really sure how to review Tin Man. I love The Wizard of Oz, so I’m drawn to anything that is even remotely related. I’m struggling with the review because I was unable to read a majority of the story due to pixelation. I did love the graphics in the book and I do look forward to being able to read a hard copy of the graphic novel one day.

Thank you to Amulet Books and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

First off, I am a huge Wizard of Oz fan. When I saw the cover, I knew that I needed to add this book to my TBR list right away! Tin Man by Justin Madson is a YA graphic novel that will pull at your heartstrings. The story revolves around high-schooler Solar, whose grandmother has recently died. One day, while dumpster diving, she encounters Cambell, a tin woodman seeking a heart. According to the synopsis, this book is "equal parts The Iron Giant, The Wizard of Oz, Edward Scissorhands, and Freaks and Geeks,"

Overall, Tin Man is a lovely and emotional story about friendship and grief. One highlight of this book is the Wizard of Oz connection. As a lifelong Oz fan who has read plenty of sequels and adaptations, I was so excited to read this new graphic novel that was partially inspired by the Wizard of Oz. I did take off 1 star, because the ARC that I read was so pixelated that I couldn't read a lot of the text. I'm sure they will fix this when the book actually comes out though. If you're intrigued by the synopsis, or if you're a fan of graphic novels, I highly recommend that you check out this book when it comes out in April!
