This is my time reading a book by this author Kenzie Macallan and it will not last. I will definitely be reading more from this author. This is a suspenseful, page turner, action pack, drama, entertaining, steamy romance with an awesome hero and heroine all the makings of a great read.

Beck McKenzie, is part-owner of the MBK security agency and is a former MI-6 agent and he finds out that he is the first born son of royalty and is to be king to a diamond empire in Zambia. Pippa Stevens, is a world renowned hacker. Beck and Pippa team up for an assignment to uncover secrets that are buried in Beck’s hometown of Zambia. As the two are working together they find themselves attracted to each other. When Beck finds out that he is to be king in his country he decides that he wants to return to America and let his brother Wafiq be king. There is so much going in this book that it kept me on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed this book that I’m going to read the first book in the series.

I received an ARC via NetGalley and I’m leaving my review voluntarily.

This is the first book I have read by this author and overall, I thought it was good. Definitely a 3.5 star read. My biggest issue is that Beck is kind of clueless. I mean, I love a strong female character and Pippa fits the bill- smart and a bit amusing, who showcases the issues with a man who thinks he knows all. But I also like a story featuring a man who recognizes that a team is so much more than a man who thinks he knows everything. Eventually, they work as a team but in my opinion, it takes too long. Otherwise, I liked that this is a generally well rounded story that feature romance and a bit of action. Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for an early copy of this read.

This book was not great. I gave it two stars because there was a few parts I liked but not many. Honestly I think it would have been better with no romance or if it wasn’t an attempt at a slow burn.
Beck is set to become King of a city in Zambia after his birth parents, who he never knew, died in a plane crash. When he arrives he treats the whole thing as a mission to discover something about the Chinese being involved in diamond trading. It was a very badly done ‘mystery’ but Pippa posing as his girlfriend to help was so much worse. The romance seemed both secondary and uncomfortable. Its like there need to be more to explain what was happening.

This story was so good only so many levels. I enjoyed the dual points of view from both Beck and Pippa for a start.
Beck had lived quite the life but he's also used to being alone. Even his work as an agent was done alone as much as he could arrange it. His one firm demand was that there would be NO women agents as his partner. Men only if he needed a partner and he had good reasons for feeling that way. It's also one of the reasons he was so against working with Pippa when she got sent to the job. At first, he did everything he could to scare her off the job and send her home. But Pippa had a whole lot more grit than Beck expected. But he learns. He also learns that she's like a wild redhead that comes in like a hurricane. He was concerned about her inexperience in the field but soon begins to see that she IS a warrior. I liked how things changed between the main characters into something MORE. That often made me smile.
I adored Pippa. She was a hoot. She had her own style and didn't apologize for it. She was also charming, smart, often kind and a whirlwind of energy. She's tough when she needed to be. If she was in the right she backed down for no one. I loved that she was proud of her ink, which was a part of her. I really liked best her ink that said, "Lies are like knives."
Beck's brother, Wafiq is someone who Ibut totally just disliked right away. He was just so smug and entitled and he was so snarky with Beck and Pippa. Well he was that way with anyone who he thought was below him. I wondered if anything would change.
Beck's sister Sabeen was the total opposite of Wafiq. I hoped she was as sweet and good as she seems.
Katoo plays an important part of the story too. He appeared as a sort of mystery man. The keeper of secrets. And there were plenty of those.
There were plenty of surprises and turns in the story. One of the biggest ones happens early on when Beck makes his first ever visit to his "home" in Africa. Something happens to him that was is totally unexpected. He is an experienced man when it comes to field work as an ex-agent but this attack was a shock!
There is plenty of action and ALMOST everything is taken care of in this story. The criminal organization, Deep 8 still needs to be taken totally down and the story continues in the next book"Burn."

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I loved this book! It’s a little different from most military romantic suspense. Beck finds out his birth parents were African royalty. He’s way in over his head and needs Pippa’s help in more ways than one. Beck is such a strong willed alpha, but he’s very vulnerable in Africa. Pippa is a strong willed and very smart woman. I loved these characters. I was riveted to this book and look forward to Declan’s book. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.

I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
King was a great read and I actually read it in one day. There is a burning love story and lots of action throughout this book.
Beck learns he is to be King but it’s a blow to him as he feels like his real parents betrayed him and put him up for adoption. As he begins learning and meeting the royal family some things don’t quite seem right.
In comes Pippa, the red head who comes in like a hurricane. She is someone who is brave, protective and absolutely has feelings for Beck.
Both need to learn to trust the others abilities in order to get to the bottom of who is trying to Kill Beck.
Great read.

This book is okay. I like the storyline, but the writing feels choppy. The love story feels a little forced. There's a lot of adventure and suspense, and it kept me turning the pages, so not a bad read but not a 5 star.

This is my first introduction to the Deep 8 Series and I did enjoy it. But I also struggled as this story very much felt like a continuation of another rather than a stand alone and there was plenty early on that didn't really mean a lot to me, especially when it came to Deep 8. Although to be fair a little about Deep 8 was explained in the latter stages.

Yet saying that I really liked the setting, the characters, the pockets of action and the whole idea was interesting too. As for the romance it didn't really blow me away, but I thought it worked within the story and I liked these two characters together.

But honestly, I think I could've really loved this story had I read the first book which I'm definitely interested in doing and I'd certainly reread this one again afterwards. I just wish in hindsight; I'd done that first.
