Sue Watson has provided us with an excellent 'Who dunnit' read from the beginning. This audiobook was enjoyable and continued to keep me guessing all the way through, and I never guessed it right, so my shock at the reveal was definitely very much welcomed! Keeping me at the edge of my seat and wanting to continue to figure it all out made the experience enjoyable and highly recommended to others! Easily a 4.5 star read, rounding up.

Thank you to NetGalley for the audiobook arc in return for an honest review.

The New Wife turned out to be a really good thriller! I had my hunches, but I could never quite nail down who I thought the killer was. The whole story was very well written and came together well. The audio production was especially well-done, and it was a pleasure to listen to this while completing some chores this week. I strongly recommend this one if you're a fan of domestic thrillers and family drama!

I felt like this one was a lot like some other books ive read but the ending was different and I really enjoyed it. it felt repetitive in the beginning but it did keep me interested.

What do you call a writer that authors a story that is fun, tugs on your heartstrings with all the feels and on a dime can switch to a story that holds you by the throat in a grip so tight that you are completely powerless to move or utter a sound? You call that author talented and not just talented but freaking brilliant and Sue Watson is such an author.

Her whimsical, fun and heartwarming stories are what drew me to this author in the first place, but her domestic thrillers and mysteries knock me down like an NFL linebacker and leave me wondering if I need a seatbelt for the very harrowing ride I am about to embark on.

With The New Wife, we are introduced to Georgie who has raised her son, Sam, as a single parent after leaving his abusive father. When Sam is still knee-high to a grasshopper, he meets Lauren on their first day in nursery school and for the next twenty plus years the Jackson and Moore families become the best of friends and even refer to themselves as The JackMoore’s. So, it comes as no surprise that Sam and Lauren grow up together, fall in love and get married.

The surprising part comes just a few months after the wedding, Lauren is dead, her broken and bloody body found at the foot of the stairs. It comes as no surprise that the first person to be under suspicion is Sam. The spouse is always the first suspect and I admit, I had my suspicions of him too. Another surprising part of this story is that every character in this book caused me to question their own involvement, including Sam’s mother! See what I mean about this author’s ability to draft a story that pulls you in so intensely?

When the final reveal comes, it’s not very surprising as it is more heartbreaking, especially because it didn’t have to happen that way and even with the conclusion, there really isn’t a happily ever after for anyone. My one and only issue with this book is there is a major cliffhanger thrown in at the end that I wish had been dealt with as it definitely creates more problems for the characters in this story.

I was fortunate to listen to the audiobook format and found the narration performed by Tamsin Kennard to be riveting and entertaining. The story is told from Georgie’s point of view and Ms. Kennard did a fantastic job capturing Georgie’s personality, spirit and emotions.

My Final Verdict: Overall, I highly recommend this story to fans of the author because, we love her stories and she’s a must read. If you haven’t read anything by Sue Watson yet, what are you waiting for? I also recommend this book to fans of the mystery, thriller and suspense genres who enjoy stories that are rich in character development and can shock you while entertaining you at the same time.

Audiobook review - The New Wife, Sue Watson.

⭐️⭐️

Please don’t take my review at face value as there are so many people who loved this book! This just wasn’t for me. It didn’t surprise or shock me. Didn’t leave me in suspense wanting more. It was a lacklustre listen that I’d put on in the background and not really concentrate to (again this might be a factor of me not liking it).

Lauren and Sam are newly wed and about to live a happy life together. That is until Lauren is found dead and Sam arrested for her murder. Georgie (Sam’s mum) knows it wasn’t her son and is determined to find out the truth.

It sounds like a typical murder mystery book right? That’s exactly what it is. It is written in the voice of Georgie and we are introduced to a wide range of characters - all having some reason to have murdered Lauren. Georgie, I found, was just annoying. She irritated the life out of me and I couldn’t get beyond that. I’m not sure why exactly but I just didn’t like her. Sam, too, I didn’t feel any sort of connection with therefore I wasn’t bothered that he was being falsely accused.

The pinning the blame and realising otherwise throughout the book is like every mystery book you’ve read. Nothing stood out. Nothing had my jaw on the floor. I just nodded “yep” for every “twist” that was to happen. I was overall just disappointed.

The performance of the audiobook was good which was a silver lining. She did ring life to the rather dull characters.

Overall, this just was not the book for me. Please try for yourself as there are so many positive reviews and I just didn’t gel with the characters. I also didn’t concentrate too well which probably influenced my decision.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC / ALC in exchange for an honest review.

I had to write and rewrite my review over and over again. I totally misjudged where this book was going. There were plenty of clichés  that I was like, "really?", but they only served as a purpose to the plot twists that were to come. As amazing as they were, I figured some of them out. And no, that didn't take from the fun of listening to the book.

Another thing I liked was the narrator, she was so good, coupled with how gripping the book was, I finished the audiobook in two days, which is record time for me, considering I can't concentrate long enough on audiobooks.

One thing I disliked though, was the actions taking place in a deserted cottage in the moors.

Fun fact, I had the E-arc requested as well, which I may have done by accident while waiting for the audiobook's approval, so that helped to keep reading the book when I couldn't listen to the audiobook.

Thank you @netgalley & @bookouture for this Audio ARC in exchange for an honest review💕

I could not listen to this fast enough. The voice narrator just added to this psychological thriller as her interpretations to all the emotions in the dialogues was on point.

Although I felt the buildup was a bit slow (I wanted to keep reading faster and faster) the twists and turns made up for it. Once you thought you had it figured out something else was revealed that made me wrong. I so love not being able to figure it out the end. The big reveal showed me how far I was lead astray. Everything makes perfect sense and it became a wild ride. Do we every really know anyone?

Thank you again to Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC!

This story felt so real and raw, I loved delving into each chapter to find out the next instalment which couldn't come quick enough.

“Regardless of how close you might feel to someone, everyone has their secrets, and secrets usually lead to lies.” With family like this, who needs enemies? Everyone has a secret in this twisted tale of deception and betrayal. No one is who they appear to be and the stakes are high in keeping the perception of perfection alive. My belief in who the villain was behind the tragic death of the newlywed changed as events unfolded. The final twist was a total shocker. Tasmin Kennard’s narration added an extra layer of intrigue and suspense. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for my audiobook.

First, this is not a gripping thriller however, it is a good slow burn dysfunctional family drama. I listened to the audiobook and really enjoyed the narrator.

A gripping thriller that will have you hooked until you've turned the very last page. There were many twists and turns that I didn't see coming and I loved that! It definitely kept me guessing and on my toes. A great novel that I highly recommend!

Two mums meet when their children start pre-school and become friends. Their children go up to become friends and eventually get married. 3 months later the bride is dead and this is when the mystery starts.

A well written story that has several plot twists and keeps you guessing to the end. The pace seemed to slow a little in the middle of the book, but pulled me back in as it got closer to the end. Overall a good story (I listened to the audio book) that kept me entertained throughout.

Thanks to Netgalkey for the advanced reader copy. Views are my own.

Twisty and turny, I enjoyed listening to The New Wife. The narration was terrific and the story new and not formulaic. This is the first book that I have read by Sue Watson and I am sure to read more of her in the future.

"The New Wife" by Sue Watson is a lesson in, "How well do you really know someone?"

Georgie Moore's son, Sam, and Helen Jackson's daughter, Lauren, are engaged. The two mums' met on the first day of preschool for Sam and Lauren and have been BFF's ever since.

Sam and Lauren were childhood sweethearts through their early school years and at university. With their careers underway they're tying the knot and the two mums' couldn't be happier!

What takes everyone by surprise is Lauren's death three months later and Sam being charged with her murder. Georgie is convinced Sam is innocent and is determined to prove it.

But...isn't the husband always the most likely suspect?

I enjoyed Georgie as the protagonist and listening to this story through her point-of-view. The audiobook narrator, Tamsin Kennard gave believability to her voicing, kept me intrigued and it was easy to listen during the first half of the story.

This is when it slows down, feels repetitive and I was anxious for something new to happen. The pace did pick up during the last 20% when twists and secrets surface that begins to breathe life back into this story.

I like this book but it never tosses anything new and different at me. Perhaps more than one POV and 50 pages less would have made a difference. There are reviewers who have enjoyed this one more than I have so do check out their perspective, as well.

3.5 stars for the audiobook, 3 stars for the story, averaging 3.25 stars rounded down.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture Audio, and Sue Watson for a free ARC of this book. It has been an honor to give my honest and voluntary review. This audiobook is now available.

I really struggled to get into this book. Im not sure if it was the writing or the narration, but ultimately I didn't really find this book kept my attention, or really grabbed it at all.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance copy.

This psychological thriller is narrated by Georgie, who's son, Sam, was recently married to Lauren. The couple live in a remote cottage on the edge of . When Lauren is found dead at the bottom of the staircase in their house and Sam soon becomes the prime suspect so Georgie decides to try to prove his innocence.

This book kept me guessing throughout but somehow it didn't quite hit the spot. The build up was a little too slow but the twists did surprise me and the ending was quite shocking.

Tamsin Kennard did a good job with the narration.

Do you really know your family and friends?

When a newly wed is found dead, the search for her killer will tear at the bonds of friendship and family. The plot seemed intriguing, and for the most part was. There was a lot of filler and overtly emotional characters. This took away from the entirety of the book. A classic rich versus poor story with illicit affairs and the past of teenage drama continuing into the present. The twists and turns did keep me guessing. Overall, I was not a fan of the ending as it seemed abrupt and rushed.

I listened to an audio version of this book. The narrator was easy to listen to and kept the listener engaged.

I would like to thank NetGalley, and Bookouture Audio for the electronic Advanced Reading Copy (eARC) in exchange for my fair and honest review.

‘The New Wife’ is Sue Watson’s latest psychological thriller. and I was lucky enough to get a free audio copy via Netgalley for an honest review

Georgie is a single mother and delighted that her son, Sam, has just married his childhood sweetheart, Lauren. In addition, Georgie has been close friends with Lauren’s parents, Helen and Tim, since their children met in nursery school.

3 Months later Lauren is dead and the finger points to Sam her husband as he found her and is the obvious suspect

Geordie is like a tigress and can't believe her precious son is to blame.

As the story progress's it shows that despite a very close friendship the last 20 years there are many secrets and do the friends even know each other at all which is just what you want from a psychological thriller.
Even though I couldn't gel with Sam's character this book did not disappoint
