I was surprised by this book! Sometimes supernatural books just don’t do it for me but I really enjoyed how this book intertwined it. It was a jam packed story but not complicated to follow with the supernatural elements.

I see this is a series! Excited to continue the story later on!

This book isn't quite what i thought it would be...ended up making it 28% before i had to DNF. I did like the writing though, so i'm not opposed to picking up something else from this author. This just wasn't for me.

Flynn Dalton is having a bad week. She's totaled her truck, been laid off from her construction job, and been possessed by a jealous ex-lover. Who happens to have died in a suspicious car accident. Her current lover, a well-known psychic named Genesis, fears there's a rogue psychic loose who may have cursed the local Dead Man's Pond where lesbians are ending up dead. What's a girl to do?

This is a fun LGBTQ+ rom-com with a paranormal twist. It's a well-crafted story that will appeal to fans of Charlaine Harris. It also appears to be the first of a series. This is good as the identity of the mysterious pawnbroker who sells Flynn the wedding ring she proposes to Genesis with is driving me nuts. And while I didn't feel any chills reading the supernatural sections, the characters are engaging and I would read a second installment. #LGBTQ+ #occultfiction #Southernfiction #LGBTQ+thriller #lesbianromcom #shelleyanderson4127

Dead Woman's Pond, by Elle E. Ire, is a fun, paranormal suspense with a whole lot of romance. I listened to the audio version & thought that the narrator did a great job with the flow & different people's voices. I thought the main characters were mostly likeable, as well as interesting.
Flynn Dalton has always tried to avoid any & everything that so much as hints at being paranormal. Somehow, she manages to run right into it, literally this time. Plus, Genesis, her girlfriend, is an incredibly popular psychic. This freaks Flynn out for both supernatural & monetary reasons. She'll probably be ok, though, as long as no one brings it up.
One night, on Flynn's way home from work, she almost winds up in Dead Man’s Pond. Then things only become a whole lot scarier. The pond wants her and if she wants to live, she’ll need to put her big girl panties on & allow Gen to help.

DEAD WOMAN’S POND is book #1 in the Nearly Departed series.

Flynn & Genesis (Gen) are in a relationship, Flynn is a broke construction worker and Gen is a successful psychic, which is an issue that comes up regularly for them. Flynn is in an accident & almost killed near a pond, when she see’s the ghost of her dead ex-girlfriend. Flynn might not like it, but the pond has fixated on her to be its next victim. If she wants to survive, she’ll have to swallow her pride, accept Gen’s help, and get much closer to the psychic realm—and her own latent psychic abilities—than she ever wanted.

I chose this on a whim and ended up loving it! It’s way outside my comfort zone, being paranormal… and it went deep into that the further I got, which I thought would turn me off but I just went with it and was rewarded with a fully fleshed out story. It takes place in contemporary times and is set in a town called Festivity, FL. I thought the author did a fantastic job showing what life is like for people who are trying to survive in a wealthy town without lots of cash. The relationship between the MC’s felt relatable on so many levels and didn’t fall victim to tired & formulaic situations. There’s lots of action as well! I listened to a copy via NetGalley, print is available now, not sure when the audio is releasing, I’ve seen different dates. HOWEVER! I did notice it’s available to purchase through Author’s Direct for $16 right now so go grab a copy!!! It’s going to be one of my favorite listens of the year 🥳

Thanks so much to NetGalley and OrangeSky Audio! I was provided a copy in exchange for an honest review.
