very interesting educational bookReminds me of a college book only better. It helped me understand myself and many others. If psychology is your thing it’s a definite read. It’s my thing so I’m gonna give it five stars

A big thank you to Charles McCormack LCSW-C for writing his biography Essence his own story of trauma from childhood to the person he is today as an adult. Charles revealed his personal story traumatic as it is obviously was able to heal and put it all behind him. Truthfully as much as I dearly wanted to know and learn on how he managed to deal, heal and move forward with his life; I was unable to read any further from the first chapter. As much as I dearly wanted to learn more I was enforced backwards to my own traumatic childhood memories. When I had first read the description about the book, I did want to learn and to be able to understand how he managed to heal and move towards a healthy life and relationships but I just couldn’t read any further as I could remember and could feel what he felt as he explained on the strappings from a belt. So I’d like readers who’ve experienced similar situations that the story is very descriptive and explains traumatic events and if you’re stressed or emotionally distressed from reading please seek help as I certainly will be seeking help and when I can manage to speed read through certain sections I will do so as I am very interested in knowing how the story ends.

Updated review: On 11 December 2021; I decided not to allow my tormentors to have their hold over my life so I managed to read the rest of the book. I empathise and sympathise on how Charles was treated and like him I’m exhausted from closing myself off from others afraid of being verbally abused emotionally and mentally along with being hit, accused of being a liar. Similar to Charles I have never had a great emotional connection and relationship with my mother and in order to heal and move forward I chose not to have a relationship with my full and half siblings as they caused my childhood trauma. I am glad that Charles had managed to move forward and received the much needed help and became psychologist and social worker to learn how to heal and receive the help. The thing that confused me as I am not sure on how Charles managed to stop the negative thoughts and triggers to be able to heal and move forward with his life.
