This book has an interesting plot line but has scenes that are hard to recommend.. It is only for very mature readers.

Barbarian Alien (Ice Planet Barbarians #2). By Ruby Dixon. 2022. Berkley (ARC eBook, Special Edition).

Liz Cramer is a survivor of an airship crash onto an ice planet. Good news is the crash allowed her and other captive women escape from their alien captors. But the ice planet have big, blue-skinned and horned aliens and the males are alpha hunks looking for mates. Raahosh is surly, possessive and set on having Liz as his mate. Poor guy. Overall, an entertaining read and I will continue venturing out into this subgenre.

I love the Ice Planet Barbarian series!

While Liz is one of my least favorite ladies of the series, I love Raashoon and her interactions. I've enjoyed rereading this series and coming back to why I love Ruby Dixon so much. Especially with the new bonus material and the epilogue.

Of course when this one popped up to request, I had to try it. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. It was actually a lot better than I expected. I had assumed it would’ve been something I couldn’t finish, but it was so much fun, I actually finished it quite fast. I will file this one under my “guilty-pleasure-brain-cell-killers”. Will definitely recommend.

I enjoyed this book overall! There was just a lot of smut and a little bit of plot. I could’ve used for a little more plot for sure. But that cover. Oh my goodness I’m obsessed with this cover. Ive purchased and it’s gorgeous on my shelf.

I think this one lands about where a short alien romance is expected to. It's a fun little romp. Quick read for a few hours of escape from reality. Not much of a plot overall, and the quick change of heart from the heroine is a little undeveloped. I'll keep this series in mind for when the mood strikes. Cute cover update!

Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for providing a eARC for review.

I am absolutely enamored with the Ice Planet Barbarians series by Ruby Dixon!

Move over Georgie and Vektal, there’s a new couple in town and they are more stubborn, more explosive and more loveable than their predecessors!

Liz is an amazing heroine: smart, snarky, stubborn, skeptical and crazy! She’s not buying what these big blue aliens are selling and she definitely doesn’t want one of these neanderthals as a mate! Hell, she’s already been kidnapped once, she’s definitely not exchanging one prison for another. I don’t care how much the “cootie” resonates in unison with the surliest alien of them all!

Raahosh is definitely surly and he’s got a good right to be. But when he’s faced with finding his mate and ending years of being alone, he goes a little (A LOT) crazy and steals off with the lovely Liz against direct orders from Vektal, the alien tribe’s chief. Raahosh knows it’s wrong, but he won’t risk anyone taking away his mate, despite Liz’s protests that she's most certainly not!

Okay, so despite how bad this makes Raahosh look, it’s a little endearing that he wants to go all caveman over Liz, but fortunately she is having none of that. Liz bucks up against Raahosh and his stubborn, pigheaded overbearing ways and refuses to back down from him.

Liz is freakin’ hilarious and her dialogue is that much funnier with her Okie twang and slang. She gives Raahosh a run for his money, that's for sure. Raahosh is not all that he seems to be though. Despite being the black sheep of the tribe, his gruff exterior masks many internal scars and a pain so sharp, so real that it almost humanizes him. No one seems to get under Raahosh’s skin quite like the prickly Liz. They are a perfect match!

And can we talk about the hot alien sexytimes? Holy goodness! Liz and Raahosh’s passion is so explosive and fiery! I blushed and had to fan myself SO many times! Super hot and so incredibly nasty! So good, yet so naughty! Mind blowing! Yeah, um… you should definitely check it out 😉

Ms. Dixon’s world-building is creative and immersive and her characters are brilliantly and beautifully flawed. Is it weird to say I want to live inside her head? Well there, I’ve said it and I won’t apologize!

Ms. Dixon’s books are completely captivating, utterly fascinating and genuinely entertaining and I am looking forward to her next great adventure!

I received an early copy of this book from Netgalley and Berkley Publishing Group! All opinions are my own!

I enjoyed this book so much more than I anticipated, even after loving the first book in the series! Both Liz and Raahosh are so relatable and real, even though they're on an alien planet with alien problems. Their relationship felt so human despite all the differences. I absolutely adored watching them learn about themselves and what they wanted out of life. The way that their relationship develops is so refreshing.

I think Raahosh is going to be my newest book boyfriend. He's so sweet and yet so sexy at the same time. The way that he's more than just an alpha male but he has depth to his personality and development. He fit so well with Liz and it was like they were truly made for each other and it made the story so much sweeter!

I can't wait to read the rest of this series! It's getting better with each book already! Definitely check them out!

This may actually be one of my favorite books in the Ice Barbarian series. Liz is so head strong and Raashon is so sweet and just wants to keep her safe and to himself (in and out of the furs). Their story starts out really rough but their development was done so well. I really enjoyed their journey and I'm so happy I ordered a copy. I really hope they all get published with these beautiful covers.😍

This is the second book in the ice planet barbarians series and focuses on Raahosh and Liz both of whom were introduced in the first book. The story is similar but I found Liz to be a more compelling character and her relationship with Raahosh was (slightly) more realistic. Liz clearly does not want to be on this planet or basically married to an alien she's never met and Raahosh respects her anger and she eventually warms up to him. Liz is also a hunter who has experience being out in the wilderness and that helped balance their relationship as well. There was some angst towards the end but Liz and Raahosh got their happy ending.

I just love the entire Ice Planet series and I was so excited for this special edition with bonus content!! Loved returning to Not Hoth and these characters

Content Warning: The first chapter of this book contains a brutal rape scene (before the girls crash land on the Ice Planet). There are also instances of abduction, murder, and dubious consent. Proceed with caution!

Meet Cute:

As mentioned above, after the Bad Aliens leave the girls on Not-Hoth, their unofficial leader Georgie is sent out into the cold to inspect the place. She quickly finds herself falling victim to predators and loses consciousness. When she awakes…well, the actual meet cute in this book is Georgie waking to a big blue alien’s head between her legs.

The Leading Woman:

Georgie was abducted from her apartment in Orlando, where she had a desk job, no boyfriend, and seemingly not much in the way of friends or family. But Georgie is extroverted, curious, and always cracking jokes, so she quickly becomes the group’s de facto leader. She seems hilariously unbothered by the fact that she’s been abducted by aliens and crash landed on an alien planet in another solar system. Maybe this is because she doesn’t have much back on Earth to return to, or maybe that’s just her way of dealing with trauma. Who’s to say!

The Leading Man Alien:

Vektal is the village chief. He’s a no-nonsense kind of guy who happens to be out hunting when he spies Georgie. She makes his khui “resonate” – a.k.a. his tapeworm purrs – which essentially means they are soulmates because the khui recognizes Georgie as his best match for breeding and vibrates when she’s around. Dixon blesses us with a dual POV which is hilarious, because the aliens not only don’t speak English – they aren’t even human. It doesn’t make any sense!!!

Anyway, ON TO THE IMPORTANT PART. The thing that made these books an online sensation. Vektal’s physique. The ice planet barbarians are *ahem* bigger than your average man. Their bright blue skin is described as a soft suede-like texture. They have ridges all over their bodies…and I do mean ALL over. They have horns, and tails, and, most importantly, a knuckle-like bony protrusion just above their penises that we shall refer to as a clit-stimulation antler.

In other words, the men of Not-Hoth are 7-foot-tall dildos. They are ridged, vibrating, simping, Rabbit sex toys. And not only are they quite literally Ribbed For Her Pleasure™, they are so desperate for female mates that they are PRAYING to find a woman that they can worship and feed and take care of, till death do they part.

Risque Ranking: 6

How sexy you will find this book really depends on what gets you going. Personally, I’m a fan of build-up and tension. The longer the author teases, the swoonier the book. Unfortch for me, Dixon jumps right in to the sexy business with Vektal, ahhh, introducing himself to Georgie with oral sex while she’s unconscious. For this reason, I’m deducting a couple of points. However, if actual sex scenes are what you’re reading these books for, then they are a’plenty and they start early.

Because the khui is focused solely on breeding and there is an ice planet that needs repopulating, this is definitely a romance series that is all about the baby-making. Like, to the point that Dixon has written a series of short stories about the babies that come after the happily ever afters. Feast your eyes on THIS cover and title combo. Wowzers. Some people are into the old “epilogue baby” romance trope, but I’m not one of them. Another 2 point deduction!

Was It Good For You?

Define good. Was it well-written? Not really. Character development? Nah. Was everything a bit too convenient? Extremely. Every hurdle that the characters face (language barriers, for instance) are quickly resolved with a wave of the author’s magic sci-fi wand, and for that reason, plot is thin. I desperately wish the rape scene in the first chapter had been omitted – it was completely unnecessary for a multitude of reasons.

Georgie and Vektal’s romance was not my favorite for all the reasons mentioned above. But because this first installment did all the scene-setting for me, I hoped the next books would have a bit more time for romantic build-up.

Forced proximity. Enemies to lovers. And the absolute best low stakes fantasy romance series ever. Now with cute covers. I love.

A quick-paced romance with all the steamy scenes you'd expect if you've read the first Ice Planets book. Altogether, this story was more character-driven than the first and thus was actually more enjoyable for me.

HOW IS THIS BOOK SO HOT!?!

The sequel to Ice Planet Barbarians was awesome and and honestly just what I wanted!!

I loved reading about Liz & Raahosh and their journey to forming a bond. It was fun to see things from both of their perspectives and to get another glimpse of the life on this planet.

OW OWWW, definitely need to read this one. And oh did I mention? I am obsessed with this new cover and the remake of this series!!!

Liz & Raahosh – SWOON!

After reading and loving Ice Planet Barbarians, I dove head first into Barbarian Alien by Ruby Dixon. No regrets heading back to Not-Hoth. I’m about ready to move into the barren planet filled with caring and devoted blue aliens!

Book two of IPB has us still in Not Hoth, the frozen planet. Enter Liz – a tough bad-ass heroine who enjoys hunting. Now, to our hero, Raahosh, a wounded and grumpy barbarian who just wants to love and be loved in return.

First, I love how Liz fights against Raahosh. She’s stuck on this planet, but that doesn’t mean she’s going to cave (see what I did there) to this blue barbarian’s demands. But the more she/we get to know Raahosh, she/we fall in love with him. Y’all, once I hear about his broken horn, I was like, COME TO MOMMA.

Separate, they are both lonely, isolated, and determined, but once they are together, they are UNSTOPPABLE. While I loved the first IPB book, I may even love this one more. Such a fantastic read! I don’t know what this ice planet and its blue inhabitants have done to me, but I am living for these books!
