I absolutely loved this book! I really enjoyed the first book, but Liz and Raahoosh’s story is definitely my favorite of the two. Also, these new covers? STUNNING! I have already bought the first book, and I can’t wait to buy the second with the new illustrated cover!

Raahoosh is such a cinnamon roll, and the way the others treated him at times absolutely broke my heart. He was so attentive and caring to Liz and although he did some things to upset her in the beginning, it was all with good intentions.

Liz is such a strong character. She isn’t taking crap from anyone, and she defends the ones she cares about fiercely. She’s thrown into this new life, but is still determined to make her own decisions and choose the life she has instead of just rolling over and taking it. Their relationship is definitely more of a slow burn because of that.

The banter between these two (even with the language barrier at first) is hilarious. They are both headstrong and independent, but they also both need each other. The build up to their relationship had me flying through this book to see what would happen. Seeing her care for Raahosh when he was hurt pulled at my heartstrings. There are so many unbelievably sweet moments between these them.

Sci-fi is usually not my thing at all, but I have absolutely adored thisf series so far, and I can’t wait to read more!

The second book in Dixon's series does not fail to please. It is brilliant if bizarre like the first one, and it just makes one happy. I can't wait for the rest.

Out of all, this was probably one of my favourites from Ruby Dixon. Happy to finally have some released in hard copy!

4 1/2 stars

Ok, I liked Ice Planet Barbarians but I LOVED Barbarian Alien. Our heroine Liz is funny, sassy, a little bitchy, and I adore her. Her mate Rahoosh is also fantastic - we start with a kidnapping and Liz absolutely hating Rahoosh which makes their love story such a payoff.
After reading the first ICP I was lukewarm as to whether or not I would read the rest of the series, but Liz and Rahoosh have cemented that I will continue!

Thanks NetGalley for the free copy! You've converted another alien lover.

Standout Quotes:
“From now until my spirit departs this planet, there shall be none for me but her.” (IPB)

“Now, when I imagine happiness, I imagine her face. It doesn’t matter that she is different- she is mine and I am hers.” (BA)

My thoughts:
IPB-This is truly the book that introduces you to the ice planet, the females, and the aliens. I can honestly say that I went into this book with no expectations and was surprised by how fast I breezed through it. Was it in your face smutty? A little. But was there also good writing to go along with it and likable characters? Yes. Do I think Georgie adapted far better to her situation than I ever could've? Also yes.

BA-I am someone that absolutely loves the brooding more unlikable character in books. So it was no surprise to me that I loved Raahosh and the ever so feisty Liz. Out of this entire series, this was one of my favorites. This is a really pivotal book for the rest of the series and the males pushing the boundaries with their resonance mates. I don't want to give too much away, but I just love Liz's personality and how she was not only adapting to this planet but she also was interested in being a part of the day-to-day tasks such as hunting. Their relationship was also one of my favorites and I just thought from start to finish this was a fun read and a change of pace from the insta-love we saw in the first book.

Overall: This was totally a curiosity killed the cat… and satisfaction brought it back sort of moment. I feel like every time I opened a bookish related app I saw someone talking about these books so I finally caved. They are the perfect books to snap you out of slumps. While I find that there seems to be a formula to them and they become predictable… that’s also part of the reason I like them. I love a good HEA and these books deliver while also tackling more complex issues as the series continues. I totally recommend if you are willing to go out of your comfort zone!

Thank you to @berkleypub @berkleyromance @author.ruby.dixon @netgalley for the ARC’S! I think the new covers are absolutely stunning!

I have a full blog post on every single book in the series linked in my bio!

ARC acquired by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Another installment of Alien Porn in the books. I don’t know what it is about these books that makes me continue to want to read them. I think it’s because I grew up during the hot vampire porn phase and never got out of it, so now we’ve switched to aliens. And while these books are by no means great literature, they still make for a compelling story. They are short, sweet, and to the point. Fast reads, with plenty of smut to keep a girl flipping those pages. I didn’t enjoy Liz’s story as much as the first one. My main issue with this one is that the attraction Liz has for Raahosh doesn’t feel believable. She spends most of her time hating this beast for kidnapping her and then a flip is switched and all of a sudden, she falls for him. It felt too instantaneous for me. There needed to be more build-up of Liz slowly coming to terms with her cootie and realizing it’s not so bad. Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of scenes in the book. I loved how Liz is so passionate and outspoken about what she wants and is willing to do anything it takes to get it. She’s a very strong female character. I also liked getting to know Raahosh’s back story and knowing the motivations behind his actions.

Overall, I will most likely continue reading this series as it gives me a break between some the longer fantasy books that I read. Sometimes my brain just needs some fantasy porn and that’s okay.

I'm consistently surprised at how well Ruby Dixon has been able to take this seemingly wild idea and turn it into a genuinely readable story that's just so much fun to read. Barbarian Alien was so much better than the first book and I just loved reading about feisty Liz!

I have a soft spot in my heart for alien romance and was absolutely stoked to get my hands on the second book in the Ice Planet Barbarians series. Liz and Raahosh are my favorite couple in the series so far. It kinda reminded me of Taming of the Shrew, except they were both the shrew. It is clear that these two characters were made for each other, which is what you hope for in a book that utilizes the fated mates trope. If you have already read this book and have been thinking about picking up the special edition, do it! There is a very cute bonus story about Liz and Raahosh’s honeymoon, aptly named, Ice Planet Honeymoon and the cover art is gorgeous. I received an advanced copy from NetGalley and am glad to share a review with fellow and future readers of IPB.

I can completely understand why someone wouldn't love this novel as much as the first one. It's definitely more alpha male than the previous book, and it has an almost Stockholm syndrome thing going on with it.

That said, I still thought it was a really fun time. They hint pretty well at the situation in the previous book, so nothing took me by surprise in it. I really like the enemies to lovers feel of this one, and ended up enjoying my time. Not a perfect read by any means, but I did enjoy myself.

Thank you to Berkley and NetGalley for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Reading these books is really like nothing else. They are light and funny and filthy. I don't know that I ever warmed up to blue alien boy here, but I really liked Liz. But....pregnant for three years? Absolutely not.

3 stars.

Another quick read featuring one of the aliens and women from the groups introduced in the first book. Again, very steamy with some messages featuring women empowerment.

This is such an amazing book! This is the second book of the series which picks up midway from the first book but with different characters. Honestly I'm really enjoying this series even though so many are hating on it. I love how the author has a plot in this story and it's not all about the smut. I enjoyed the writing of Dixon's which is the same style of the first book. The pacing was great and in this book you get to learn more about the world. This book is also written in dual povs and includes some amazing special bonus scenes that I enjoyed reading.

Liz and Raahosh are the main characters in this book and I loved both characters a lot. Liz is one of the hostages from the spaceship and is a very chatty character though she is very brave and adventurous. Then there is Raahosh who has been without a mate for a long time until he resonates with Liz and takes her away from the tribe. He is a quiet alien who goes through betrayal and heartbreak. Both characters have great character development in the book and I enjoyed reading this book in both of their povs. There aren't many side characters in this book except towards the end and in the bonus chapters. This book has enemies to lovers and a fated love trope with 5/5 level of steaminess. Let me say that the romance was really well done and I totally ship the characters.

The ending was very well done and I'm super excited to read the next book which thank god this whole series is released. I don't know about you but I'm totally loving the new covers for the reprint. I totally recommend reading this book especially if you love steamy romance and/pr sci-fi books.

This is the second in the Ice Planet Barbarians series. This was better that the first but still lacked a strong story. The concept of this series is so good, it has so much potential, but it just falls flat. The steamy scenes are still WOW, but the characters lack depth. Liz is the main love interest in this latest story. She is the most independent and outspoken of the human group marooned on the Ice Planet. She is smart, funny and determined. I know these aliens have amazing "attributes" and are very well "equipped," so I get the attraction, but come on, they are still like cavemen dragging the women by the hair into their caves!! Regardless this was a fun read. I just want more to the story!!!

Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 Stars - This was another perfect escapist read. Her writing style is fun and light-hearted but still has all the feels when you need them, and as with book one the steamy scenes are on point! I really enjoy the "Not Hoth" planet she's created as the setting for these stories, the winter vibes are perfect for this time of year and I love the mixture of fantasy with "clan of the cave bear" vibes. Fast paced, sexy, and entertaining this series is easy to devour. **Thanks to both NetGalley and Berkley Books for an eARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!**

As with the first installment this one has plenty of both humor/sarcasm and sexy times as these enemies to lovers find their stride. Liz is a bit rough and off-putting, but her eventual love for outcast Raahosh makes her more likeable as the story unfolds.

The only reason why I didn't love this one as much as the first is because I wasn't as connected to Liz and Raahosh as I was to Charlie and Vektal. But it was still a fun and entertaining read. I'll definitely keep reading the series.

I am so glad that I took a chance on this series. Berkley’ s new covers might be the only reason that I picked them up, but it’s Ruby’s writing that kept me interested. I love the extra content that Berkley has added in the books. My one complaint about the original book was that it wasn’t longer, and I loved that there was more to the story in the extended epilogue. All in all, I liked Barbarian Alien so much more than IPB. Liz is such a strong character, and so evenly matched with Raahosh. The way that these two are tough on the outside but so soft for each other? Flawless. And the way that they support each other and defend them? Uggh so good. There’s something so cozy about Non-Hoth, and it’s most definitely because of the men that would do anything for their loves. I’m so excited to continue reading this series.

Thanks to Berkley and NetGalley for the e-galley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own.

Original review (2016): Total floof but so fun and surprisingly sexy despite the somewhat odd sounding descriptions of the aliens (I picture them as kind of a cross between a Na'vi and a demon). I glommed the first three in one day ;)
I could only give this one three stars because while I enjoyed Raahosh, Liz got on my nerves a little lot.

2022 update: reading the updated, mass-market pre-release ARC I got from NetGalley. Happy New Year to me!
and...
2022 review:
Thank you to NetGalley, Berkley books, and Ms. Dixon for the opportunity to read an ARC of this title in its official "published" format. An honest review was requested but not required.
I really couldn't tell if any substantive content of the original story was changed. I tried to read them side by side but that got tedious after several chapters of nothing different, and I quit doing it.
The epilogues are new, of course, and were right in line with Ms. Dixon's typical epilogue/slice of life chapters.

I was surprised to find that Liz bothered me a lot less this time around. I remembered her as being an obnoxious, mouthy, irritating pain in the butt. This time she struck me more as a woman frustrated by her situation and lack of agency whose only real outlet for this frustration is to lash out with words. Sarcastic words, angry words, endless words. In contrast, Georgie's complacency and "go along to get along" attitude irritated me a lot more now than it did before. I totally understand that the chief could not make exceptions for his friends when they broke the rules, but Liz was never once consulted on a decision that would impact her greatly as well. And then to just "reassign" her to another mate?! whew. Good thing that was overturned. Anyhow, I'm glad that Liz kept fighting, because it's obvious she wasn't going to get any results any other way.

Overall I enjoyed this more this time than I did the first time so I'm upping the rating 👍

This sequel to Ice Planet Barbarians intertwines with the events of the first book, so I'm not going to say anything about the plot points to avoid spoilers, but this book was so much fun! I really enjoyed the first book in the series, but I loved this one even more. Liz and Raahosh were both amazing characters, and their back and forth banter was hilarious! Their chemistry was intense and spicy, and I probably could've kept reading about them forever. I definitely started 2022 with a new favorite book, and I cannot wait to see this special edition in stores!

CW for mention of rape, sexual content, blood.

A huge thank you to NetGalley and Berkley for the ARC of Barbarian Alien by Ruby Dixon!

I really liked Liz's story. She is strong, fearless, and a little crazy. Raahosh is a bit controlling but in the end they seems to work it out.

This series is fun, fast, and far fetched but I think that is was makes it so fun. I recommend it to anyone who loves spicy, aliens, and Star Wars references.

Honestly, booktok.... I don't know what this series is, but I read the second installment without blinking. So uhh... read it? It's strange, but you can't stop.

After reading and really enjoying Ice Planet Barbarians I needed to read Liz's story next and this book totally delivered. I loved how feisty and independent Liz was and how equally stubborn and protective Raahosh was of her.

Where Ice Planet Barbarians felt more like insta-love, I really enjoyed the slow burn, sexual tension filled romance between Liz and Raahosh. They had major communication issues and they didn't come together easily, but I was still rooting for these two to end up together and find their way to one another.

If you're looking for a quick read with lots of sexual tension and steamy scenes - read Barbarian Alien! I am ready to binge the whole series - really enjoying the humans & their blue aliens.

CW: kidnapping, dubious consent, grief/exile
