I'll be honest, I have quite an obsession with cats and was really looking forward to reading The Cat Behavior Book, 2nd Edition. I typically read most cat books. I've been a cat parent for over 20 years and I found this book covers fairly commonly-known cat information with a sprinkle of new facts. I enjoy learning interesting facts about different breeds of cats. The author delivered that well! Cat care and behavior were covered in a Q&A format. I was confused by the number of cats the author identifies by name in this book. How many cats does she own?

I would have enjoyed this book more, if the pictures were larger and correlated with the story being told. There are still questions about my cat's behavior that I didn't get answered. I'd recommend this book to a new cat owner. This wasn't a fast read. It's easy to get overwhelmed. That said, I'd check this book out from the library.

I have read some books by Arden Moore before so I was glad Storey Publishing (via NetGalley) fulfilled my request for reading this one. Thank you! My review will be the honest one.

This edition is the second - I didn't read the first one, so I can't compare them. I liked the look of the book, photographs and the pictures were gorgeous and completely appropriate for the subject matter. You surely won't regret buying this book as a gift for any cat lover.

However, this is not a book to buy for first-time pet owners, as it is not really a manual. You will get some tips, but not all one needs to learn about cats and keeping them (if you are into manuals of course). I sort of interpreted this book as a collection of additional Q&A one often asks oneself after getting acquainted more with their pets. These may be seen in monthly cat magazines, but here they are all put in one book. Well, most of them - calamities we can have with cats are infinite, and some questions are hopelessly unanswerable. Keep in mind though that there aren't health-related Q&A, which I think is reasonable, as in these matters one should always consult a vet.

At the same time, that is the main trouble with this book. It is not essential. One doesn't really need it, especially with so many cat magazines and online pet forums. It helps to have so many Q&A sorted sensibly in one book, but there is nothing particularly new to an already well-informed cat person.

If you are looking for a cat keeping manual, this is not that kind of the book. If you like cat related books, you won't regret buying this one, for yourselves or for other feline aficionados.

This was a very informational book and great book for first time cat owners. I also really enjoyed the photos.

I really liked this book. I would definitely return to this book when I have questions about my cat’s behavior. It starts with the basics and then goes on to cover so many topics. It is thorough and easy to read. I love all of the pictures of adorable cats. I think this is a solid resource for cat owners and lovers. It would appeal to a wide age range as well. This was a great book.

This was actually a really cute and informational book. I've been a cat lover my whole life and I definitely thought I knew almost all there was to know about cats and their behaviors. I learned from reading this book that I was completely wrong (in thinking I knew it all) as I learned so many interesting, helping and just plain cute ("that's why they do that!") information about cats after reading this. I would highly recommend it to any and all cat lovers or anyone new to having a cat who needs some help understanding why their cat is like "that" or to learn how to stop bad behavior or concerning behavior. I expected to think this would be enjoyable but I didn't expect to learn so much and that was definitely a much appreciated bonus! I have 4 cats so obviously I needed to read this book. I find myself constantly wondering what my cats are thinking and why they behave the way that they do. This book gave me a lot of info and knowledge on what exactly is going through my cats' heads. This is concise and informative and delivers info in a clear way. As a seasoned cat owner, I find this book covers a lot of fairly common-knowledge information about cats in broad strokes with little new information. I still have questions about my cat's behavior that remain unanswered. This would be a good choice for a new cat owner, or as a coffee table book in a cat cafe.

This book was so informational. It is helpful and great. The cover and pages look nice and are pleasing to the eye. It was detailed and thought-filled.

If you are a first time cat owner, this book is a must read. It gives you all the possible information that you need to know about looking after your cat. It also had some interesting facts about cats in history. I always thought cats were very intelligent animals, and this book definitely proves that. This book helped me understand my own cat better and will be following a lot of the advice. I am so glad I got the opportunity to read it.

This book came to me at a perfect time.
I have just got a new kitten!

The book had some great tips.
It teaches of your cats wants and needs
and gives some great ideas for things like travel with your cat, if your cat is lost, playtime with your cat, grooming, how to give medication to your cat and much more.

I would say a third of the book is very obvious things and at times I was thinking. Ok, I already know this.
However, the rest of it made me carry on as it offers a lot of food for thought.

The author is an experienced cat owner and obviously loves cats.
There are also questions that people have asked when they have been having certain problems and the author addresses the problems with solutions. Which makes the book interesting also.

Worth a read for new cat owners and also for longer term cat owners as you may find some tips you hadn’t though of.

I received an advanced digital copy so it was not in its final form. However, looking past the formatting errors, this book was really hard for me to read. I am confused by how many cats the author has. They stated early on they have 2 dogs and a cat in their home, but then says "my cat so-and-so" for almost every bit of information she shared. Do they have that many cats for real or is she making that up to sound more appealing and credible?

The author shares some information that isn't really relevant to the topic, such as "the top 10 fabulous felines" which lists the most popular breeds of 2020 and etiquette for cat shows. Interesting, but not related to cat behaviour.

There are some paragraphs about what different meows mean, why cats play a certain way, how they use their whiskers, and why cats stop using a litter box. That is helpful but most of the book seems like
filler. If the book was called " the all things cat book" I could understand little anecdotal stories or random facts.

A though book about how to take care of your cat. Every question you may have about taking care of your cat is in this book, from misbehaving kitty, cutting your kitties nails and suggestion of how to find your lost kitty is here. The explanations are so easy to understand that you will wish you had this book for years and will refer to it over and over again. And even if this is your first cat or your tenth cat you will learn plenty from this book. It made me chuckle a lot.
I love the way Arden Moore answers all the question, they are explained very simply and step by step so there isn't any misunderstandings. I love all the cat pictures to.

Thank you for a copy of this book! It was super cute and included a lot of nice pictures. I also really liked the facts included and the information was really fascinating. I highly recommend this for cat lovers or people with cats because it’s very fun and useful!

I really enjoyed this. I have two little black tearaways myself and therefore this book appealed to me as I felt there might be something in there I wouldn’t know. There was actually lots and hopefully I can put some of the guidance to good use. I loved the facts throughout and that it was like an agony aunt for cat owners. Really great idea and it kept the book from being dry and just facts about cats. As an ARC the formatting was all over the place but that was really my only criticism.

This book was quite helpful. I'm fairly new to cat behavior, and definitely was happy to have some insight into their mysterious ways.

This book answered a lot of questions I never see addressed in other cat info books. It offered a lot of comon sense solutions, as well. I particularly enjoyed the format and the conversational tone of the book. It didn't talk down to cat owners, but offered sound solutions. I think anyone who is interested in owning (being owned?!) by a cat should read this book to see what they are getting into! Also, it would make a fine gift for new cat owners.

This book is great for anyone who has cats, or is thinking about getting a cat. It is written in a Q & A style, which allows the reader to easily skip any parts that don't apply to them. It's broken down into a few chapters such as Communicating With Your Cat, The Basics of Chowing and Grooming, and Kitty Quirks and Funny Felines.
In our household we've been considering getting an additional cat. Shortly before receiving a copy of this book we finally decided that our next cat would be black, as long as it had blue eyes. Then I read a question about cats reflective eyes at night, and learned that unlike the traditional green reflection, blue eyed cats reflect red instead. That made ever owning a blue eyed cat a hard no for me, lol. So. if you've ever wondered what your cat's tail is trying to tell you, how to help them achieve or maintain a healthy weight, or which litter is best ( we use two different kids, one in each box, after reading this and it's a game changer!) then I highly recommend this book for you!

Well this was interesting book that has explanations for all types of cat behavior. From the age old question of 'why cats knead' to 'what happens at cat show'. I found this book interesting to read because my boyfriend recently got two cats and as someone who did not grow up with them there are a lot of times I just plain don't understand them. I think this book will succeed in making me a better cat owner.
