Tanco presents a loving, and touching tribute to our faithful canine companions.

Though aimed at younger readers, this is a true gift for anyone who has ever loved a dog.

This may very well be my favorite children’s picture-book ever!

A composite of absolutely adorable watercolor pictures, (each edged in ink and portraying a different child with their cuddly pet), this story is so sweetly evocative that you’ll find yourself reluctant to leave this author (who is also the illustrator) and his world.

With one simple statement per page, each works with the next to show the very many ways a child’s love for his or her dog (and the reciprocal doggy-love back) can be expressed.

This warm and wonderful book will appeal to the very youngest of readers, any child with a love of animals, and each and every parent lucky enough to be sharing this reading experience.

A great big thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of this book. All thoughts presented are my own.

Thank you to the publishers for mailing me a copy of this book.
I absolutely loved the illustrations. They are so wholesome. This book would be ideal for kids who have pets, especially dogs. It's a nice, short, and sweet read. It's a good children's book.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada/Tundra Books for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a children's book. It is an adorable book. Nice graphics. Showing different children doing fun things with their dog. There is one sentence per page. Very short and cute and great as an easy reader. 3.5 stars

This book is a celebration of owning and loving a dog unconditionally. It shares the reciprocal love between small humans and their faithful doggie friends. "My Best Friend" labels a dog as a BFF. Dogs are soft, cuddly, warm and always there for you. They are loyal, constantly love your company, and happily follow you everywhere you go.

This heartwarming story is a reminder to revere your pet when they are showing you affection or even when they are being a bit naughty as most dogs are from time-to-time. Dog lovers both young and old will identify and confirm what a wonderful contribution a dog makes in their lives.

The watercolour illustrations are wonderful and draw you into the narrative. The diverse array of dogs and kids portrayed are a joy to behold. I love the book and highly recommend it.

Thank you, Penguin Random House Canada, for providing me the advance reading copy.

I would say the content is so much better than what we see at the cover! It's so fluffy pretty! And yes to kids growing up with dogs and puppies and pets!

The illustrations are just fluffy! Haven't I said that already?

The writing is effortless and perfect for the target audience.

Fine watercolours portray the appeal of a lot of dogs to a lot of young humans – or do they? I liked the final beat to this, as before then it was just a 'hey, dogs are great!' text and I always have to worry about the pester power that kind of thing generates, where adults are harangued into buying a pet when it's ill-advised. That niggle should not really be cancelled out by the final brief sentence, but in adding a second dimension to the whole thing it certainly seems to work in my mind, meaning this is a lot more pleasing than it might have been.

When was the last time a children's book brought tears to your eyes and made you smile at the same time?

Only one sentence per page but very well-chosen, and paired with an appropriate illustration, it allows you to create a separate story for each and every page. This book is perfect for small children (and apparently works with adults too) whether they like dogs or not. It celebrates diversity, responsibility, friendship, and life in general.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Penguin Random House Canada for this Advance Review Copy.

I love it when a book makes me smile, giggle even. Miguel Tanco's "My Best Friend" (out next April '22) is that kind of book. Now just because I LOVE dogs and especially dog books, doesn't mean that every dog title I encounter is a given for me. My Best Friend however, is a sweet tale of how any faithful pal with four paws and a waggy tail is the perfect companion. Gentle with illustrative canine finesse, this story is perfect for pet lovers and even those who aren't.

Thanks to #NetGalley for the digital arc in exchange for an honest review.
