This is a delightful tale about a very talented cow that oftentimes displays an out-of-control temper. The good news is that Petal, a Holstein cow, has many fantastic qualities as cows go. She is kind, thoughtful, and a wonderful baker, dancer and artist. The bad news is that she also has a mean temper which flairs up often. Unfortunately her barnyard pals know exactly which buttons to push to get that emotion into gear.

One morning the farmer announces that tomorrow all the animals will be taken on an exciting trip to the local water park. On the way home they will stop for pizza and ice cream. HURRAY! They are ecstatic!

The horse is so happy that he jumps up and down and accidentally trods on Petal's foot from one of his leap-for-joy antics. Petal snaps into the BIGGEST tantrum yet!

"WATCH IT, DUMMY!" she shouts out through her pain. The farmer is flabbergasted with her reaction and instructs her to apologize immediately or suffer consequences for that bad and inappropriate burst of anger.

"STUPID DUMMY!" Petal responds.

She then stomps away in a huff. Will Petal make amends and find a way to control her temper and get to go on the trip with the rest of the animals? A swan she meets at the pond shows her the truth about displaying that kind of behaviour in a very surprising way. Will Petal recognize the error of her ways and be redeemed?

The illustrations are wonderful and the book offers a very valuable life lesson. This humorous story would be a great read-aloud at circle time followed by a discussion. "Petal the Angry Cow" belongs not only in a home but in a classroom and elementary school library too. I highly recommend this book!

This was a super cute story about Petal the cow learning how to manage her temper after a time too many of her losing it got her into some trouble.

There were a few moments I disagreed with but overall, I thought it was a cute story that could lead to some important discussions between kids and their parents! And the art was super adorable and colourful which made this speed by. I’d recommend it!

Petal the cow has a kind heart and many talent- good dancer, good painter, smart and hard- working, her only downfall is her foul temper. She's aggressive and combative and her bad temper lands her often in trouble. After one of her temper tandrums, she wasn't allowed to go on a field trip, instead, she befriends a swan with even worse temper. Through their interaction, and witness how the swam alienates all her friends, Petal learns some things about how to remain calm.

I LOVE this book and have purchased it for my classroom. I think so many kids will be able to relate to it and will find it comical because of the vocabulary they have heard yelled at them in frustration that the cow also hears. So cute!

This book is about the cow Petal who has quite the temper and always gets in trouble for it. The book shows that by acting on that temper, meaning calling people names when you think it’s fear for example, it doesn’t mean you have the right to. Instead, you should tell people how they did you harm by their ways. I think it managed this so well, and the illustrations were amazing. I recommend it!

This book was a good example for young kids who may get angry or frustrated. It's a little straightforward, lacking any real nuance. Petal gets angry, loses privileges, and no one wants to play with Petal. It did show some strategies for emotional regulation, but overall, I don't think it tackles the socio-emotional lessons that would be beneficial here.

As an elementary teacher, I’m often looking for social stories to read in my classroom to facilitate discussions on how to treat one another. As a mom of two young children, I’m looking for books that entertain my children enough to read over and over. This book ticks both boxes. Petal the cow has a problem, she can’t control her temper. Her friends don’t mean any harm, they just make mistakes like we all do. Petal ends up losing fun time and feels sad until she meets a swan who teaches her a valuable life lesson. The illustrations are silly, the story rings true to all kids (and parents!) I’m looking forward to putting this book in my classroom! Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review!

Petal the Angry Cow is a picture book about learning to control your temper. Petal has some anger management issues that she needs to learn to deal with if she's going to be able to go to the water park.

This was a fun book. The art is amazing, and I really related to Petal's journey. Sometimes it is quite difficult to not lose your temper when a horse lands on your hoof. Happens to me all the time. And I think they nailed the true character of swans.

PETAL THE ANGRY COW is one angry cow. Petal could not control her temper with her barnyard companions. The farmer planned a field trip for the animals. As they were setting off the horse accidentally stepped on Petal’s hoof. Petal lost her temper and yelled at the horse calling her a dummy. The farmer witnessed the event and wanted Petal to apologize. Petal couldn’t stop the name calling or the hollering so the farmer gave Petal a consequence. Petal was not allowed on any field trips until she learned to control her temper. Soon after Petal met the swan who said her temper never caused her any problems. Petal accompanies the swan on her activities and witnesses first hand the effects a bad temper has on others. After spending time with the swan Petal resolves to make a concerted effort to control her temper.
PETAL THE ANGRY COW is a delightful story that teaches a valuable lesson. The illustrations are outstanding. Definitely looking forward to seeing the finished product.

This is so cute and fun! Petal has lots of good qualities, and, unfortunately, terrible trouble managing her temper. When she has one outburst too many, she risks losing out on a fun experience if she can't learn to manage herself. With a unique sort of help from Swan, Petal starts to realize there must be a better way!

This is a wonderfully engaging read with humor and great illustrations. I love that it was emphasized that Petal had her good qualities along with her challenges. I also really appreciated that the journey of Petal learning to deal with her anger more appropriately did not involve her keeping silent or failing to advocate for herself. She just learned to do it better!

This will make an awesome circle time read--there are lots of giggle-inducing outbursts that will be a riot in the hands of an enthusiastic reader. This would be a great addition to preschool and elementary school and classroom libraries.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

Poor Petal the Angry Cow has the barbaric temper of a toddler, which keeps getting her into trouble! The consequences of her behavior cost her inclusion on a fun outing, but then she makes a new friend who is even more poorly behaved than Petal. Petal sees how others view her behavior, so she changes for the better and is subsequently rewarded. This is a funny little story that would be useful in teaching little kids and neurodiverse children about consequences and your own behavior from a different lens.
