It is interesting and informative for youth ages 8 to 12, but older youth could use it too, as well as younger.
This book does a wonderful job of appealing to youth. It also provides details and gives helpful explanation of Bible scripture that is good for the age group. While it isn’t the King James Version of the Bible that this book refers to if you prefer that, it still is a great reference book to help understand scripture. It is a nice thing to have in your home or church library. I recommend this book.

"For each book of the Bible, you'll learn: who wrote it and when, what it's all about, and why it's important to you today."

Know Your Bible for Kids (2022, Barbour) by Donna K. Maltese, "provides kid-friendly explanations of all 66 books of scripture and fascinating details on the story of Jesus - who is the focus of the entire Bible." There are a number of these Know Your Bible books by Ms. Maltese, and this one targets ages 8-12.

Rating: 5 stars

What I liked:

*There's just one page for each book of the Bible. A key verse from each book of the Bible is included, in addition to the other material presented. The information is short, concise, and well-selected.

*The illustrations, as seen in the "look inside" feature on the Amazon listing, are small but great! A reader could go through this book and just look at the picture chosen to represent each book of the Bible, and that would be a worthwhile activity in and of itself. The pictures also have captions to explain what the illustrations represent.

What I didn’t like:

*The formatting of my Kindle ARC (advance reader copy) is nowhere nearly as nice as the sample pages I can see on the Amazon listing. I can see the pictures on my Kindle, but they're in black and white, and the font isn't as appealing as the paper copy either. In addition, the paper books have the advantage of each page covering exactly one book of the Bible. That would make it really easy to thumb through, whereas on the Kindle, the number of pages per book of the Bible varies according to what the font size is set at. Unless you require larger print, I'd definitely recommend the paper book

The bottom line: I highly recommend this as a reference for the target ages, 8-12, but in all honesty, I liked it too. It's a great way to grasp the big picture of each book of the Bible.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a review copy of the book.

This is a good beginning reference to the Bible for kids. It gives an overview of each book in the first half of the book and then in the second half gives definitions to terms and people found in the scriptures.

I liked the simplicity of the descriptions and felt it would help kids understand and break the Bible down into smaller chunks. I personally prefer the King James Version of the Bible and so for my family we would use this book as a reference and then would go to our scriptures to read and discuss it in more detail. I think, though that this is a good reference and introduction to the Bible for kids.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through Netgalley and this is my honest review.

This is highly recommended resources for parents and for kids who want to understand better how the Bible is written. Every book of the Bible is explained. The author and date is provided, and if that fact is uncertain, that is explained as well. A short summary is given of each book. Key people and themes are noted. A key verse is picked from each Bible book. Then that verse's importance is explained. I really liked the fact that formatting stays consistent as that will make it an enjoyable read for kids.

At the end of the book, there is a section that also explains key people and places in the Bible. Topics are ones that are relevant. The illustrations will be enjoyable to kids as well.

I read an ebook copy of this book through NetGalley. While that worked fine, I think I would recommend the paperback version simply because the formatting might be easier for kids to understand. Depending on the size of print, some of the details go on to the next page which makes it slightly harder to follow. But no matter how you choose to have this book, I do recommend this book. All opinions in this review are my own.

This is a must read book for parents and children alike and it belongs on every bookshelf .

The book explains every book in the bible while detailing the key people/events and the themes explored in the book. I thoroughly loved that there is a key verse is picked from each Bible book. The author then takes times to explain the verse in a way that is not overwhelming and intimidating. I loved this book and how the author wrote it. Highly recommend.

A huge thanks to Barbour for my complimentary copy. All opinions expressed my own

This is a wonderful reference book for anyone who wants a quick overview of the Bible. It is simplified for ages 5 - 8, but as an adult I found it very interesting. The author gives us basic information for each book of the Bible. She tells us who wrote the book and when it was written and also gives a short summary of what each book of the Bible is about along with a key verse. Along with these important elements, I really enjoyed reading why the author thought each book of the Bible was important.

This book would make a wonderful present for Sunday School teachers of small children.

I received a digital book from Barbour Publishing via NetGalley. I was not required to give a positive review and the opinions expressed are my own.

Back of the Book: “It’s never too early to know your Bible. . .

Based on the bestselling adult handbook Know Your Bible (more than 3 million copies sold), this book provides kid-friendly explanations of all 66 books of scripture and fascinating details on the story of Jesus—the focus of the entire Bible! Young readers will appreciate the clear, age-appropriate text as well as the bright, colorful illustration and design.
Know Your Bible for Kids is a reading experience that’s both educational and fun!”

Impressions: What a great resource for kids. This was an easy-to-read and understand breakdown for an older elementary to middle school student. The sections discuss who wrote each book, what it is about, key verses, and why it’s important. Additionally, it talks about what all this means to the world and to the reader. Each book of the Bible is looked at, as well as, core beliefs, major events, and key people of the Bible. This is a great book to help learn more about the Bible and why it matters. I look forward to reading it with my 10-year-old son.

I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review shared here.

I absolutely LOOOOVE this book. The idea of it is so good. Kids (well and adults) can get so overwhelmed by the Bible, and especially some of the OT. So this breaks each book down one by one as a great study for kids to understand. It tells who wrote the book and when. Then points out the main theme and key verses of each book. That’s the first half of the book. The second half of the book is kind of a like a deep index. It tells who key people in the Bible are (starting with Jesus) as well as words or places. This portion is done in alphabetical order (other than Jesus at the beginning). I have found this as a great guide of my 8-9 year old. They are learning a lot in a brief synopsis while keeping their interest.

A great reference guide on the books of the Bible, and aimed at pre-teens. (As it mentions 66 books and not 73, it goes without saying that the 7 deuterocanonical books of the Catholic Bible aren’t included herein.)

Those who know me know that I am highly organised, maybe too much so. I have Excel spreadsheets and check lists for almost everything that can be jotted out (and even for some things that needn’t be organised. 😉) What attracts me most is a structured and disciplined approach towards tasks. This book gets a 100/100 for structure. What a precise and planned way of giving the essence of each biblical book to children!

Every page in the first half of the book has the same format, and it makes things so much easier for children in terms of getting a quick reference. Under the heading that mentions the name of the biblical book, we get
• Who wrote it.
• What’s it about - This is subdivided in two further categories: ‘in one word’ and ‘in more words’. I loved this method.
• A key verse from that book.
• What the verse means.
• An image (an actual picture or a sketch) connected to that specific book.

Of course, the content gets a bit monotonous after a time, so it is better if read randomly than chronologically. A reference guide always works better if it isn’t read cover to cover.

The second half of the book provides details about some common religious concepts (prayer, baptism,…), some not-so-common concepts (second coming, transfiguration,…), and some famous persons & places. (Golgotha, Peter, Jerusalem, Herod,…) The structure is visible once again, with every concept in alphabetical order and each page following a 4 question pattern for elaboration. I liked this content too but found it too simplistic at times. (Heaven is “a place beyond the clouds”???)

Overall, this book is a very interesting guide for children who want to know more about the books of the bible and some terms related to the faith. Its colourful pages and age-appropriate content will make it a lovely gift item for children, especially for First Holy Communicants.

My thanks to Barbour Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC of “Know Your Bible for Kids: The 66 Books and All about Jesus”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

This book provides a great overview of each book of the bible. There is a short overview of each book of the Bible outlining, who wrote the book & when, what is the book about, a key Bible verse and why it is important. It's written in a very easy to understand manner, and the brief summaries are the perfect length for kids (and adults)! This will be a good reference for me as I plan bible lessons for the children of our source.
