It started out strongly and even though it got repetitive pretty quick, the first few poems were actually so good. Overall as with any collection not everything is going to hit the same which was the case for this one.

Regards to NetGalley and Beverly Maier for providing me with this ARC

A cliché and messy poetry collection suitable for Rupi Kaur's fans, which I am not. I thought this would be a new favorite collection of mines from the synopsis, but after ten thousand poems about breakups, I feel lied to by the synopsis. The author does seem to enjoy writing ten poems about the same idea using the same lines, which can get tiring after some time.
Nevertheless, there are some good lines about self-love that I can appreciate but this is not an *objectively* good collection in my opinion.

This poetry book consist three parts. Anchors, Beacons and Oceans. Here the poet poured every bit of her heart. These poems are direct, passionate, easy language and most importantly so relatable. I almost cried in between every alternative poems and ended taking screenshots almost of every page. So silly of me but trust me I did.
I really would like a physical copy for my own.
If you like reading @nikita_gill , @rupikaur_ , @ladybookmad , @r.hsins , @langleav then you'll love this book too.
One thing I must say, do not confuse or compare one's book to other's because they're all different person writing from different perspectives so they're all unique in their own way.
This book is about pain, loss, aching hearts, processing, passion but mainly about love, more precisely, self love.

Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Thank you @netgalley and @thefcmgroup (IBPA) for the #arc in exchange of an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and to the poet for an advanced copy of this book.

Poetry is hard to review because it is so subjective. I've only more recently gotten into poetry and I try to let it take me where the author is leading. This is an all too familiar subject but really hits home every time. Beverly Maier did a phenomenal job of not using (in my opinion) all the same overused sayings. Overall this was a very cohesive and captivating collection to read. I enjoyed all three parts as they were each written so well by themselves but all together really brought the story to life.

I can tell this is going to be a lovely physical copy of a poetry book to own. The cover page is beautiful and the illustrations within the book are lovely.

This was a great collection of poems.
The first part "anchors" resonated with me the most since the themes were very dark but also brutally honest. It's the kind of poetry i'll probably reread at some point. There's also a lot of good advice in there.
Personally I couldn't really relate to the second part of the book, but that didn't make it bad.
The third part "oceans" was also great, like a breath of fresh air after reading the first two parts.
Overall I think some of the poems were extraordinary while others were pretty mediocre or just not very original. But the good ones 100% made up for that. I do think the author is very talented and I will read her other works!

My thanks to NetGalley and to the poet for an advanced copy of this book of poetry.

Pain is the universal language, not the opposite of love, but because of love. That's a pretentious statement, but it might be true. And there are myriad ways of how one person can process and handle love, loss and the pain that comes with. A broken heart can send someone to the priesthood, others maybe a movie, a drink and try try again. We are all poets of of our own pain. Beverly Maier in To Be Loved To The Bone has chosen to show us hers.

The poems vary in length and in themes. Some theme repeat and why not. Life is a long road and even though we try to avoid those pot holes we still hit them, risking a blown tire, a scraped undercarriage, though we swear again and again that we won't. What is important is the emphasis on the poet sharing and telling the reader that things well might be ok, but they will get better. This book is not pretentious, more down to Earth and reflective about what people go through. Some poems won't speak to readers, some will be ignored by some embraced by others. That is art. Speaking of art the cover is very eye-catching, as is some of the interior works, and design.

Poetry is hard to review, and as hard to define. What strikes one person, will leave another cold. These poems are good. The subject is much too familiar, and leaves a mark. They are hopeful though. And the message is if the poet can make it to the end, maybe we can too.

I like the design of the book, but unfortunately the content didn't completely convince me. I was expecting a lot more, more depth, more sadness, more heartbreak. They are beautiful poems, even if some sections just look like mere texts. Still, my expectations were far too high.

This is a beautiful book of poems which explores love of all sorts. The poems speak right through you with its melancholic edges and reverberates deep. I was happy to read it . Thank you Netgalley for the Arc.

I just loved it!!!!
sometimes I felt like she speaks to me personally, I found myself reading the same sentence over and over again just to feel understood.
this book is fool of melancholy and sorrow but very approachable and not trying to say things in a sophisticated way that makes it hard to connect to the text.
I believe everyone can find even one poem to relet too.
the cover of the book is work of art by its self and going hand in hand with

This book takes an empathetic approach and gives bite size approaches and allows you to have kindness and patience with yourself when dealing with life. This is so necessary for everyone to read in life. Highly recommend. Especially loved the reflection to true life to humanize my feelings and relate. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

To Be Loved to the Bone features a lot of poems about mental health, self-love, romantic love, trauma and growth. I particularly identified with the ones about the author's mental health at certain points and I loved a lot of lines throughout the book. The entire book feels like a hug after being greeted by the author in the beginning and having the author also say goodbye at the end before she part ends with the reader so I started it already feeling warmed up to what I was about to read.

Thank you to NetGalley and IBPA for this DRC.

Building up the body from the soul to the bone, Maier weaves words together to create a heartfelt collection of poetry.

This collection is tough for me to review because it felt inconsistent. Some of the poems were quite clever and impactful, but they were separated by simplistic work that felt like filler. The rhyming schemes got repetitive and cliche at times as well.

This is my first book of poetry by the author, but I will definitely be reading her others! Her poems made me feel like I was reading Taylor Swift songs, which is the best thing! Her poems transported me back to past me and past relationships and I saw how much I’ve grown. 100% recommend.

Thank you Netgalley for the arc!

I liked this, although i thought it will be more “heartbreaking”, I could feel her sadness and what she means, but I need more, deeper writing to really feel devastated. So for me the writing style was a bit too soft, I was hoping we will dig deeper and it will make me cry. But nope. So I did not felt chills to the bones unfortunately.
As we get more ahead in the book, the writing get better with more rhymes, but still the half of this collection was just paragraphs, or one-two line sentences.

Arc provided by Netgalley. All opinions are my own. This had such a strong start, I really thought I’d end up rating it higher. The very first few poems stand out so much from all the rest, but then the author starts describing break up in every possible way and it completely shattered all my hopes.

I have a hard time appreciating poems about heartbreak and exes just because it gets so repetitive, every modern poetry collection blends into one to me. I mean, it says it in the title so I shouldn’t have expected too much out of it maybe.

I really enjoyed, To Be Loved To The Bone.

I loved the author’s opening to the reader, “The world has not been kind to me. I can’t say I’ve always been kind either…” There were several poems that really hit home for me and some I didn’t exactly like. But I think that’s the best part about a collection of poems, there’s usually something there for everyone.

I look forward to reading some more of this author’s work.

To be loved to the bone, a book of poetry about passion pain and love. This book as just okay, occasionally bordering Instagram poetry, nothing wrong with that, it just means the book is targeted for very specific audiences. There were quite a few poems in here that I enjoyed reading, that I thought were great and full of depth, but there were others that felt like little thoughts you would write in a journal or in a post on your Instagram story, not something you would put to paper and publish. But hey, maybe I just don't get this new wave of two-line, random thought poetry.

As with most poetry collections, I didn't love them all. But I did love most of them! After reading many of these, I had to put the book down to sit with it for a bit and several left me gut punch emotion. I thoroughly enjoyed this collection!

This was a fantastic selection of poetry not normally something that I read but I did enjoy this. I mostly resonated with the first part anchors not so much Beacons and Oceans, but definitely a great read.

Thank you so much to the publishers at netgalley for the E-ARC in exchange for an honest review
