There were some weird formatting issues but since I was sent an uncorrected proof, I’m rating this book based simply on the story alone in hopes the issues will be noticed & fixed. (Also read this on my iPhone which could’ve caused them.) :)

It took me a little while to get into this & the innocent girls trying to figure out what s3x is all about went on longer than it should have, in my opinion. However, I LOVED Vita. She was a young lady with a solid backbone who wanted to be a female doctor, which was unheard of in 1865. Her dreams are crushed when her father says she has to marry instead. Once I got into the flow of the book I really enjoyed it, even if parts dragged a little for me.

3.5 stars.

Worth reading for the chapter headers alone, which frankly had me smiling more than I expected.
Absolutely cracking central character in Vita, who is small but mighty.
Driven, determined, and oh so likeable. She's the best of all of us.
I enjoyed reading her frustrations with small town life, and her plots to get where she wanted.

It's going to be a hit this book I think.

I really enjoyed this work of historical fiction. It was well written with well developed and relatable charcaters and I loved the protagonist. It was also set in a period of history that I know little about and that I have read little to nothing about so this made ti even more enjoyable for me. This is a great read.
