Chilling and compelling psychological thriller which keeps you guessing.

Cleverly split into several sections as our view of events is reframed.

Juliette and Danny have moved out of London for a quieter life and a new start following the heartbreaking death of their young daughter. The village they move to seems idyllic, apart from their next door neighbours, Sarah and Richard, who seem a bit off as though they are hiding something.

This was a brilliant thrilling book, I loved every minute of it. I listened to the audiobook and loved the narrator. In fact she was perfect for the book. She really brought out the tension and suspense in the story. This book had an excellent story line that took me on a roller coaster ride with its fantastic twists in the tale. The ending was wow amazing but im not going to give anything away. The way the author created the characters was truly brilliant leading me to connect with them easily. I just couldn't believe how much the suspension in this book built up to. I was at the edge of my seat and binge reading it to see what was going to happen next. I will definitely be looking out for more books by this author. She is definitely one to watch out for.

So much praise goes out to the author and publishers for creating a book so full of fantastic tension that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I listened to this as an audiobook and I was gripped. It’s honestly so hard to do this review without massive spoilers!. It’s amazing a real dark twisty story that gets better and better as the story progresses 5 stars all round.

Great Listen

After the loss of their daughter Danny and Juliette move from London to a quaint little village about 40 minutes from Derby
The house has been empty for years and it feels like this is their ideal home to make a new start
The neighbours Richard and Sarah are an odd couple and seem nice but as time goes on there is obviously something not right about Richard time proves he is a nasty piece of work and Sarah seems scared of him

There are a few twist and turns through out the book and the chapters are split into each character and that works as does the narrator

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to listen to this book in exchange for an honest review

Interesting psychological thriller focusing on two sets of neighbours. The story pulled me in right away and I couldn't stop listening to find out what the hell was happening. Towards the end the action moves at breakneck speed to it's conclusion. I felt sadness and anger in equal measures as I listened. There are some very unlikeable characters, but also some which felt much sympathy for, but all are well drawn.

I enjoyed the narration by Emma Gregory.

Careful what you wish for - is a perfect summary of this unsettling story.

And here we go again, with another couple moving into a middle of a country and with the "new house - new life" idea and a new spacious home inheriting new eerie neighbors. From the very first meeting, Danny and Juliette get an uneasy feeling about their neighbor. If they only knew the life behind's Richard and Sarah's door... And very soon Juliette and the reader discover the chilling truth about the tenents of the house next door.

Loved the idea of the plot, but it lucked the thrill. Nevertheless, it was a good read. Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Publisher for a free copy of the novel.

dnf - found it slow and boring. characters were 2d and although the author clearly tried to create an uncomfortable atmospheres, I just couldn't get into it

Breaking all the rules at work on my last two days and listened to this beauty….I have to say WOW I wasn’t expecting that! Most of you will know that I am a massive fan of Mel’s and this book is different to what I would normally expect to find from Mel with her gritty police procedure stories.

Even though this is a psychological thriller, I felt like that was a touch of The Estate series in there. We follow a totally, twisty gripping story when we meet Sarah and Richard who have a normal happy life until Juliette and Danny. Their new neighbours move in. Then things take a whole different turn making you question all of them. What a book! I absolutely loved it.

The only thing I didn’t like was Richard….But your not meant to like him. Once again Mel pulls the reader in from the start and keeps them there until the very end. And this book is proof that Mel can write anything.

Without a doubt this book will have you guessing until the end I couldn’t get enough of it and was dying to know what the hell was going on. This is a story that proper got in my head, I just couldn’t stop listening it…..not very often I listen to a book for hours on end. It made my last two days at work fly by…..LOL and it is only 7 hours and 47 minutes long.

Another 5 star winner!

Thank you to bookouture for a copy all thoughts are my own and not biased in anyway.

the story is weaved together well with the different POV . I would describe it as a dark domestic thriller that is fast paced and has you hooked from the start. The storyline was unique although there were some topics that may trigger some readers. in conclusion i felt this was a this is a twisted tale that i would defiantly recommend.

#TheLifeSheWants by #MelSherratt is a story that starts with a couple looking for a new start after the loss of their daughter, they move to the country and soon realise all is not as it seems with their new neighbours. The author explores dysfunctional families, abuse of many forms: emotional, physical and neglect. The story is told through the use of present day and flashbacks from the point of view of 3 women. This book will make you feel. Thank you #Netgalley and #Bookouture for gifting me the #ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have read and enjoyed several of Mel Sherratt's police procedurals and I was happy to see that this one was a thriller, something different, but also well done. Juliette and Danny move into a house in the country looking for a fresh start after losing their young daughter. They need a place to heal. Juliette meets Sarah, the woman who lives next door. Sarah and Richard are a solitary couple and don't want anyone interfering with their lives. They aren't worried after a dinner with Juliette and Danny. But, something is wrong in that house. There are secrets they are trying to keep quiet. When Juliette sees a young girl in their garden and starts to ask questions, things begin to unravel.

This is a story you need to go into knowing only a bit, so I am not saying anything more about the plot. I will say that there are some very unlikable characters, as well as some I felt a lot of sympathy for. Secrets abound and are revealed throughout the story. The story is told from various points of view and at times I had to figure out who was speaking, but as the story progressed, it became easier. There was also two timelines, but again, as I got more into the story, I was able to figure out what was happening. The final twists did not come as a surprise, but I definitely enjoyed how the plotlines came together in the end. I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Emma Gregory. This was my first encounter with this talented voice actress and I enjoyed her narration of the story. Using expression, tone and accents, she brought the characters to life for me. Overall, this was a very entertaining experience.

This psychological thriller from Mel Sherratt was my first from her, but I enjoyed it thoroughly so it definitely won't be my last. This deliciously wicked and twisted novel about sisters who were manipulated and twisted into the same man's web of lies delivers a thriller that will have you second guessing yourself at every turn. I was still not sure what to truly believe until it was the ending. I thought this was wonderfully done and wasn't too predictable. I was shocked by the twists and found myself unravelling the web at the same pace it was revealed to me in the audiobook. I thought the characters were relatable and fascinating. I really enjoyed this from beginning to end. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

A dark, psychological thriller that keeps you guessing. New neighbours are the catalyst for a sequence of events that change Sarah's comfortable life forever. Juliette and Danny, the new neighbours, are vulnerable after the tragic death of their young daughter, and they try to make a new start by moving house. As the story unfolds we realise things are not as they first appear. Very dark, compulsive reading. Thank you to Mel Sherratt, Net Galley and Bookouture for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This one took me a while to get into but once I did I couldn't stop listening. Mel is very good at providing suspense and intrigue. There were a few twists and turns. It was slightly confusing in parts but I would highly recommend it. Great characters too.

I found this book a little all over the place and hard to follow at times as it kept going from past to present. The storyline didn’t seem to flow and bits of the plot didn’t seem to relate to the overall storyline

The narrator was good however the voices of Sarah and Louisa changed from a Birmingham accent to a Yorkshire one half way through which was rather confusing!
