Sloane has taken a job at Widow Falls as a rapids guide needing a change after some painful events in her life. She’s a mid-season replacement to another guide, Landry, that went missing and the secrecy around her disappearance raises red flags. Odd living arrangements, shifty fellow guides and the missing girl’s journey makes Sloane suspicious of everyone’s motives. What happened to Landry and why is everyone so cagey about the circumstances? As Sloane reads more of Landry’s journal and compares it with the versions of “truth” given by her guide-mates, and things don’t add up.

I felt drawn in as if Sloane was telling her story directly to me, her discomfort in the living/working situation and immediate suspicions gave an edge to her story right away. Short, suspenseful chapters made it imperative to get through the story to find out what the heck was going on. I will say that after the buildup finding out what was going on was a bit of a letdown, and the ending was a little odd and confusing. Still, Widow Falls was a fast, entertaining listen.

I thought Jess Nahikian did a nice job conveying Sloane's distress and she did a wonderful job with both the male and female voices.

Sloane starts at a white water rafting company mid season and finds it hard to fit in. She discovers that the girl that had the position before her disappeared. As she starts to piece together what happened to her, she isn’t sure how concerned she should be.

This is the third Kiersten Modglin book I’ve read and what I like most about her books is the twists have twists up until the very last word. I’m never sure who is reliable and what will happen next. And I usually find in the twisty thriller world that authors use similar plots that could become predictable, but all three of the books I’ve read/listened to have been unique. While the cast of characters are young, it doesn’t define them. And I connected with Sloane and rooted for her to figure things out and end up safe.

Jess Nahikian does a fabulous job narrating the audiobook. I couldn't wait until I had time to listen to the book.

If you like fast paced, unpredictable thrillers, I’d give this one a shot.

Widow falls by kiersten modglin is a good read. When I first started reading I was afraid it was another summer resort workers slash and sex book. But this book has secrets and deceiving. Thank goodness these float guides only think of their float tours as interruptions for their evilness.to each other. I pretty well figured out the secret pretty early in the book

A camp where you have to sign a two year contract to work based on the training you get. Seems legit to this main character. After all. She just needs out of her current life situation. Yet when she finds the journal of the missing person she is replacing and then starts to hear the stories of the missing people in the woods she starts to realize maybe this job was too good to be true - on paper. Definitely a page turner. The end was a little predictable, saw it coming. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This had a YA feel even though these people are supposed to be in their 20’s I feel like they skew younger.
This has a culty, unreliable narrator, one of us is lying feel to it with a side of gaslighting.
Narrator Jess Nahikian did a really good job everyone had a different voice and accent this was my first book by this narrator but I would definitely pick one again if she is narrating.

This did keep me guessing as the why and what was truly going on and how it would unfold and reveal its secrets. Okay I did not see the reveal at all that was interesting. No Spoilers

This is the 2nd book by this author that I have enjoyed, she has quite a few books so will try to make my way through them.
This ended up being an interesting story Sloan at times will grate on your nerves but when you are being gaslit you’d probably be annoying too.

Are you kidding me? Listening to the audiobook, I was able to increase the speed of the narrator and enjoy the production. There was creepy and a few eye rolls however I'm engaged and following along. After a bit the actions and characters appear juvenile. I think this is a young adult book. And until late in the book when the author checked off what is apparently obligatory swearing, I was enjoying the light thriller.

I'm just able to shake my head. The author is closing the story. There aren't that many pages left, and there are a lot of unanswered questions. The ending was rushed and thrown together. It could have been so much more.

Thank you NetGalley for accepting my request to read and review Widow Falls.

Sloane begins a new job at Widow Falls, a whitewater rafting camp and moves in with five coworkers. It turns out, people go missing from Widow Falls and Sloane wants to get to the bottom of it. This was such an enjoyable read, it had me guessing, literally until the very end! I would definitely recommend this book.

I enjoyed listening to this audiobook. It was very suspenseful and kept me very entertained. The narrator is great and I like how she did different voices. The plot twist at the end had me really surprised, but I gave this audiobook 4 stars instead of 5 because I didn't really understand what was happening in the epilogue. This may be easier to understand if you're reading the book. Either way, I enjoyed the story and it was fun to listen to during my daily commute. I received a free copy of this audiobook from netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

I would read anything this author writes. I was hooked from the beginning and enjoyed the character development. The end seemed a little out there and it didn't feel as developed as the majority of the book. Overall, it was a fun read and I'm ready for her next book!

Widow Falls
Kiersten Modglin
Widow Falls is a dangerous place to work, people disappear.
Although summer was half over, Sloan took a job at the Widow Falls Whitewater Rafting Camp, located in Tennessee. She will be working there for the next two years, per her contract. Everyone was required to sign a two-year contract and if they leave early they must repay every cent they have earned. She senses something isn’t quite right. She and the other five guides, Kayla, Rob, Gabe, Josh, and Claudia share a room. After hearing about Landry, the guide, she replaced Sloan began asking questions but her fellow guides laugh it off. She discovers a loose floorboard beside her bed, inside was a photograph of Kayla and Landry and Landry’s diary. Sloan couldn’t resist reading it; inside there was a warning, “Don’t trust anyone at Widow Falls.” Landry wasn’t the only missing guide.
I enjoyed this book, author Kiersten Modglin let the suspense build. The guides are various ages in this tale however, several acted very immature. Why would anyone sign a contract committing them to repaying their salary if they leave early? I guessed the motive behind the missing people about halfway in the book that didn’t ruin it for me. The plot was well done and very exciting. The diary was my favorite part of this book. The tale was told from Sloan’s point of view. However, the ending was a disappointment. I was expecting an ending that would leave me gasping but I didn’t get it.

Widow Falls by Kiersten Modglin is a cascading twisty thriller which is what I have come to expect from one of my favorite dependable authors.

Sloane has taken a job as a guide at an infamous whitewater rafting camp signing a two year contract. Why is it infamous? Well there's the legend of how it got its name Widow Falls. Let's just say foul play may have been involved with the fallen widow. Then there are the rumors of missing personnel. Sloane is told the guide, Landry, she is replacing left quickly on her own. Others say she just disappeared one night. Then Sloane finds Landry's hidden journal and what is the truth is even more outrageous.

Sloane has suffered from paranoia due to her parent's violent death and narrator Jess Nahikian brings her fears and doubts to the forefront in this story to heightened the listener's confusion of what is believable and what is unbelievably revealed at the end; making this a fun adventurous thriller ride.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the publishers via #NetGalley for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

In one sentence: When Sloane takes a job at the infamous whitewater-rafting camp Widow Falls, she quickly learns that the camp has a reputation for more than just summer fun.

I learned about Kiersten Modglin from bookstagram, and she is becoming a go-to for quick read, twisty thrillers! I have no idea how she writes so prolifically, but I'm certainly not complaining!

Widow Falls is a spooky place, and Modglin did a good job building a dark and secret-filled atmosphere. I enjoyed Sloane's sleuthing and the diary she found that held the secrets of Widow Falls. As Modglin is known for, there is a big twist at the end that I didn't see coming!

This isn't my all-time favorite Modglin book, but it's a solid thriller, and I think readers who like wilderness thrillers rather than relationship-driven thrillers will especially enjoy it. Modglin is definitely an auto-read/auto-listen author for me now!!

✨Reviews and Coffee Breaks✨

@wellred.bookclub tagged me in the #reviewsandcoffeebreaks hashtag, so I thought I’d share the audiobook I just finished over lunch. 🤓☕️🎧

QOTD: Do you read alllllll the holiday books this time of year or do you just keep chugging along with her regular reads?

AOTD: I’m not a big holiday reads person. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’ve turned into a @kierstenmodglinauthor fan and when I saw the audiobook for Widow Falls available on @netgalley I made a quick request! Who doesn’t love a good thriller from time to time? And I’m learning that Modglin always delivers!

Widow Falls is a small resort area with white water rafting. The main character, Sloane, shows up mid-season to fill an unexpected opening. Little does she know the history about the falls and that people tend to go missing at Widow Falls…

This audiobook had a fantastic narrator (@jessnahikian ) who I will be more than happy to listen to again soon! The book itself is a solid thriller. I didn’t particularly feel like it was one where there were small hints left in the plot throughout, it was more of a plot twist dump in the last 30 minutes of listening.

The Widow Falls audiobook was released yesterday, December 14th, so look it up now! I’d recommend this one if you’re in the mood to listen to something creepy and twisty.

⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

• great narrator
• creepy camp vibes
• sketchy characters

Just when I thought I could trust one character, I was wrong. Just when I thought I had the twist figured out, I was wrong. 😂 Another K Mod win! Can't stop, won't stop reading her books.

This book was very interesting. Though I have to say I really enjoyed it. I honestly had no idea where it was going to go in the beginning, but it was really giving off spooky vibes. I’ll keep the review spoiler free because honestly this one keeps you guessing and I really liked that about it! The main character is very relatable and well written! It’s mainly a thriller, but there’s also a little romance for my romance buffs out there! I would definitely recommend this one!

Kiersten is one of my favorite authors, and she did it again with this one. Widow Falls had me questioning everyone and everything the whole time. I didn’t guess the ending at all, and was very pleasantly surprised. Great writing and great narration. Winner for sure.

This is my second Kiersten Modglin book and I loved this one just as much! I loved the little twists and turns. Kiersten Modglin writes great thrillers (in my opinion). I was on the edge of my seat waiting to find out what was going to happen next. The ending was perfect!

Sloane takes a job at Widow Falls. It seems like a good opportunity when she doesn’t know what is next in her life. This job also include lodging which is a one room apartment with the other guides. Soon, she learns that she took the place of a girl that went missing. Rumors fly around about how the name Widow Falls became to be. What happened to the other girl? Is Sloane in danger herself? This read like a typical psychological thriller. Sloane wasn’t sure if she was making things up in her head or if these things were really happening around her. Who can she trust? Most of the twists I saw coming. Sloane was too dramatic and overly thought every situation for my taste. The entire writing style felt non descriptive. Maybe Modglin would have brought the reader further into the story if she showed more instead of told.

Fresh out out of college, Sloane takes a job as a whitewater rafting guide. She soon realizes that Widow Falls is not what it seems- people go missing and no one seems to do anything about it. Can she help uncover the mysteries before falling victim herself?

This is a fast paced read with several twists. There are a few things that caused the 3 star rating. Most notably, the ending was overly complicated. My other big issue was the fact that Sloane made such a big deal about Landry leaving- well before she found out the rumors about Widow Falls. Her obsession was unwarranted, making it feel false.

I listened to the audio version. The narrator did a good job. There were a few times where a few lines repeated- hopefully that is fixed before it is formally published. But the pace is good and the narration clear and easy to understand.

I received an audio copy in exchange for an honest review.
