Kiersten Modglin is quickly becoming an auto buy author! I always think I know where the story is going and then that ending hits! I listened to the audio and I would highly recommend! The narrator is fantastic!
Widow Falls follows Sloan as she starts a new job. She finds out she’s taking the place of a precious employee who has gone missing. Sloan then finds her journal and things really start getting weird from there!
This a great book for someone who loves an unreliable narrator and a close room mystery. The whole book your stuck at Widow Falls and are unsure who to trust really up until the very end. I can’t wait to read Kiersten’s next thriller. Thank you to Dreamscape Media for my advanced listening copy!

I loved and hated this book all at once. Stay with me on this one…

By chapter 6, I was bored and ready to bail… sadly/thankfully I didn’t have any other books downloaded that I could switch to. I stuck it out! By chapter 13 I had decided, “ya know what would make this book better…? If XZY happened…” Flash forward many, many, many chapters and it happened!

I hated the main character… she was too whiney, too paranoid, and just needed to sit down and have some alone time to gather her thoughts!!!! So why didn’t she? I’ll never know. But I really hated her.

By chapter 30 I was ready to bail again, so I decided to read some other reviews. Five stars everywhere!!! I was not seeing what others were, and that’s ok. However every review said “stick with it, it gets great!”

So finally, chapter 35 and things get going. They get going fast and it does become a great book! There are some predictable parts (I had solved some mysteries by chapter 6). The “big twist” was satisfying.

Overall, it ended up being a good story, but I don’t think a book should wait til chapter 35 to get good!

I can’t recommend this to anyone, but I will tell everyone to read it!

This was my second Kiersten Modglin book and I'm pretty sure I will continue to read/listen to anything she releases!

Widow Falls was a GREAT audiobook in my opinion. The narrator was really great and kept me on the edge of my seat. The story follows Sloane to Widow Falls where she signs up to be a rafting instructor for the season. She learns quickly that she is replacing a guide, Landry, who disappeared and no one wants to talk about her. Sloane feels like something is not right, and her suspicions are peaked when she finds a journal belonging to Landry.

The story is told mostly from Sloane's POV with a few chapters here and there being Landry's journal entries. I really enjoyed the story and the twists. The ending I did not see coming, and I felt like it left me wanting more. There were some things that I would have liked to have more closure on (but I'd be spoiling if I went into it).

Overall though this was a great read! Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the advance copy!

I feel like I am in the minority of readers that didn't love this one. The description of this really intrigued me, and I was hooked from the very beginning but quickly found myself losing interest. I can't really pinpoint exactly why this one didn't resonate with me the way I hoped it would. I think the lack of character development for all of the secondary characters made it hard for me to really care about anyone other than Sloane. The ending was alright, but I felt it took so much explaining for it all to make sense that it didn't deliver the big shock I was hoping for. The amount of explanation really took away from it. I did find the epilogue to be a bit lackluster as well., as I had a feeling that was the case. Overall, this was worth the listen but wasn't one of my favorites. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. 6.5/10

This one will suck you in and keep you! Good thing I have the audio book so I can get something done while still listening. The narrator, Jess Nahikian did a very good reading, you could easily follow the character switches. This is my first Kiersten Modgin book so I looked up her other writings and found many I’d like to read. Kiersten keeps you interested to find out what is next.
Sloan, the main character of this book, is taking on a new job, trying to move on with her life after the horrific death of her parents and graduating school. She had a hard period after the death of her parents but is ready to reach out and begin again. When she found this job opening it seemed perfect. The reason this job vacancy occurred in the middle of season quickly alerted her to more unusual happenings. Sloan didn't know who to trust, some seemed really nice some seemed to dislike her. Sloan knows something isn't right why have others disappeared and why isn't anyone concerned. She has no family or friends to consult, she’s alone in the world, just like a few others she is now working wiIth. That's really strange others working there have none either, isn't it? I had to listen to the end chapter twice Kiersten knows how to get you all the way to the end.
Thank you NetGalley, the publisher's Dreamscape Media, and Kiersten Modglin for this eARC. I do recommend this book. It has mystery, interesting characters and keeps you guessing.

4 ish stars

I liked this one. The suspense was good, the plot was the typical “we’re in a fairly isolated location and something creepy is happening hmm what could it be” setup (which I enjoy, for the record), and the ending had a couple of twists, one of which I didn’t see coming. It was fun, and I’m planning to check out another story by this writer in the future.

Still 4.5 stars!!!! I read this and then wanted to listen to it as well. I'm trying to get into audio books and I do agree certain books are great for listening too! This is one of them! The reader was great. Awesome thriller recommend reading or listening to it!

Thank you Netgalley for this audiobook edition of Widow Falls by Kiersten Modglin.

Sloane is a young girl, looking for adventure and friendship at Widow Falls, a whitewater camp, aptly named for it's dubious history. Sloane is immediately intrigued and intimidated by these strong, and interesting coworkers that she will be sharing her life with. But it doesn't take long before she realizes that they are holding a dark secret, one that could possibly put Sloane in danger.

This had a strong start. I love a mysterious rafting camp with creepy hot adventurers. But this ended up being a souffle that rose and fell just as quickly. Lots of build up, not a lot of return. Unlikable characters, and way too drawn out.

Sloane has graduated - and needs a job while she figures out what to do. After seeing an advertisement for Widow Falls, Sloane lands the job of guide. But quickly regrets her decision - the guides share a cramped room, little privacy and no air conditioning for the humid summer. And the staff are already a close knit group.
By accident Sloane stumbles upon Landry's diary - beginning with a warning to trust no one.
This is a slow build thriller - lots of mystery surrounding the Falls, urban myths and a wealthy owner.
Though I enjoyed the ending and great twists - I struggled with my motivation to finish.
I did the audiobook for this title - I did not care for the narrator.

Wow! Kiersten Modglin knocks it out of the park again! Fresh new psychological thriller that was written and executed with perfection. Really great characters that were either easy to love, easy to like or just plain maddening. great storyline and POVs. Highly recommend
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book

I liked this book and it kept my attention. I really enjoyed the journal POV chapters. I finished the audiobook in two sittings but it felt like something was missing, not sure what though! 🤷🏻‍♀️ Still an enjoyable read and I will always pick up a KMod book!

This one is solid, but not as much of a thrill as "Our Little Secret" was.

The setting for this one is great- basically it's remote adventure camp and the main characters are the tour guides. The characters are pretty interesting, the story line is interesting. For some reason this one just wasn't as compelling as the last book by this author. However, I would still definitely listen to more from her!

I love Keirsten Modglin's books. Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to review this audiobook. I enjoyed the narrator and the story but unfortunately the endings twist confused me. Overall it's good but not the best.

This was my first Kiersten Modglin book and it won’t be my last. Suspenseful and entertaining. I listened to it and was on the edge of my seat until the very end! I loved the narrator. Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC of this awesome book!

ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed the premise of this book being set in a small town with a dark past. This book had me questioning the narrator Sloan from the beginning trying to determine if she was unreliable or simply a little paranoid. The setting is the river and the group of (mostly) young adults as rafting instructors that also live together and are seldom not in a group. The story was engaging and I really enjoyed the twists and turns it took in the end. I wish I had gotten more of the guides backstory’s from before they got to Widow Falls to really get an idea of what led them down that path. All in all, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend to friends!

I know you guys are sick of me talking about KMod but I ain’t ever stopping so get over it 😂 This wasn’t my favorite plot, but of course I still enjoyed the book. (Because duh it’s by KMod so how could I not?!) My favorite part was the journal POV and I listened to the whole audiobook in one day.

Nothing good ever happens at Widow Falls. People are trapped and forced to think they are the luckiest people alive to have a place to call home. But does that all change when someone goes missing and Sloan tries to solve the mystery?

Didn't see that coming! Kiersten Modglin never disappoints with a twist. I actually would have loved more of that story. I did enjoy the narration, I wanted to see what was going to happen, I just didn't love or connect to the characters in this one.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced audio book in exchange for my honest opinion.

I could not actually listen to the audiobook because the narration echoed as if there were two voices playing at the same time and it was auto tuned. Nothing would fix it. I don’t know if something went wrong with the download or if that’s how the audiobook actually sounds. I hope for listeners sake that is not how the audiobook sounds.

Kiersten Modglin pens some of the most inventive thrillers out there. This one is no exception, I was engrossed throughout and surprised at a few of the twists. A couple I had seen coming, but there were also a couple that really shocked me.

Sloane takes a live-in job as a whitewater rafting guide at Widow Falls, a remote wilderness area. She got the job late in the season because Landry, the girl who held the position before her, left mid-season. All of the guides--three men and two women, live together in the upstairs portion of the lodge. Things seem to go decently well at first, but then Sloane discovers Landry's journal hidden below the floorboards and starts to wonder if things might not be what they seem on the surface. Are people hiding things, or is she imagining evil where none exists?

I liked the pacing of the story and as I listened to the audiobook the tension mounted with each minute that passed. I felt like some of Sloane's choices were a bit too frantic, a bit too melodramatic, a bit too hysterical sometimes. I also found the epilogue/ending to be super confusing.

However overall this is an exciting thriller that will keep readers intrigued and wondering what will happen next through all of the twists and turns.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, all opinions are my own.
